I’m sure the city, taxes, weather, location, travel, etc. all play into it
And nothing really positive to offset any of that
The season ticket holder who owns the seats next to me at the Wild games probably stub hubs off about 35 of the home games every year. No idea why, but because of this we have a lot of one-game opposition fans sitting next to us. And there are Jets fans sitting for EVERY game vs Winnipeg.
So a couple of years ago there was a pretty good snowstorm the day of the Wild game vs the Jets and the seats next door are strangely empty for half of the first period. Then there’s a stop in play and in come the Jets fans, husband and wife festooned in head-to-toe whiteout Jets getups, etc.
So I said to the guy, let’s try to get here on time, c’mon. And he tells me they were lucky to get here at all, drove in a blizzard most of the way from Winnipeg. Took them almost twice as long as usual and they had even left 4 hours early because he knew the forecast had said for the past week that they would be driving through a storm. And the forecast was right.
And I said, that’s crazy, you risked near-certain death by driving through a storm you knew was coming for a full week just to get to a hockey game?
And he says… “No! Not just for a hockey game. I promised her a day of shopping at the Mall of America as well. And, ya know…”
And then the kicker…
“Man, have you ever been to Winnipeg? Like, in the winter??? You’d drive through a snowstorm too.”
Pretty much says it all.
