I don’t even remember how he got injured? Does anybody know what happened?

it was never a “leave the game” injury, he likely felt a twitch during a game late December, told the trainers afterwards and they shut him down until he felt normal again, came back a few games ago and re-aggravated/injured it and now surgery is the best option…

    Thanks Joe

and pick up Brock Nelson or JT Miller or some other big name forward

Vancouver keeps sliding (currently out of the playoffs) if that stays as-is, Boesser will be available at the deadline…He would be more impactful than Nelson imo (he would immediately replace Jojo on 2nd line and not mess with Ek & Rossi)

I don’t see them wanting Miller due to his locker room history & term left on his deal…

BillyG on kfan right now, says the surgery decision was helped by the league shutting down for 2 weeks next month for the 4 Nations, thus giving Kirill 2 weeks of recovery time without missing games…

lost in the Kirill news is WTF is up with Brodin? Did he break his foot or not? there’s no way tissue bruising keeps a player out this long…are they keeping him out with something other than his foot?

so funny listening to KFAN with PA going off on his “LTIR idea” even bringing it up chatting with GMBG on air, but he has ZERO clue how LTIR works….Pat Micheletti & Nordo had to stop him and explain it… PA is such a clown…

Probably asking the same question 99 percent of causal hockey fans are asking.

NHL .500 hockey the rest of the season likely gets them into the playoffs. They’re .577 (7-5-1) without Kaprizov so far this season

Trade deadline is 5.5 weeks away and End of regular season is 11 weeks away. Give him the Mark Stone treatment, and pick up Brock Nelson or JT Miller or some other big name forward

In all seriousness there’s no chance Kaprizov is willing to sit on LTIR if he’s even close to game ready. Also no chance the teams asks him to do that 6 months before they hope to sign him for the rest of his life

Well, the one way to get the league to change the LTIR rules would be to have some lowlife team from flyover land like Minnesota pull a Vegas and use LTIR to our advantage by holding a superstar out until the playoffs so that we could run over the cap. Bettman would start the push to change the rules the day after the season ended.

The gamble is could we make the playoffs with no KK and then could he come back in Round 1 and hit the ice scoring?

I’m not so sure KK wouldn’t play ball if BG could shift into OverCap mode with an acquisition like Nelson or Miller. That’s a major upgrade and all KK has to do is sit in the suite for a couple of weeks extra.

It would be nice if Russo or another reporter asked GMBG why they didn’t go with the surgery option earlier?

This injury sounds like a Sports Hernia vs anything groin related that would all of a sudden require surgery but isn’t season ending and only has a 4-6 week recovery period (Groin surgery is typically only required for a complete muscle tear or separation and has a 4+ month recovery timeline)…this also helps explain Hynes comments today that Kirill was trying to just play through the discomfort the past 3 games (they likely wouldn’t let him keep playing with groin pain) but perhaps the hernia pushed farther through the muscle wall now and they said it had to get repaired immediately?

lets hope that the case, as Wild fans, we’re overly-sensitive to a star hockey player developing chronic groin issues…

Yeah, that was crazy talk at the time. Lets hope KK doesnt find his way out of hear after getting his groin mostly figured out finally or whatever injury it is. I do think its sports hernia personally vs groin considering Hynes said he was in a great deal of pain on the bench, typically your groin hurts mostly when striding, but I havent hurt mine enough and am not athletic enough anymore to obviously compare to KK LOL.

and if it was groin pain, the trainers would have immediately yanked him right off the bench, there’s ZERO chance they would let him continue to play with groin pain, ZERO…

Boy. The Kaprisov situation is looking like a botch. Sit on the shelf a month, come back, lose a couple games, reaggrevate and then decide surgery is best putting him out another month (or more)

Hindsight obviously, but that is crappy.

Yeah, typically hernia’s in athletes they sometime can play through it but the rest of us would likely be worse off.

Billy also said don’t expect any significant Wild trades at this season’s deadline… I’m fine with that…

if anything they possibly trade one of their bottom 2 Defenseman if the return is worth it (Chisholm or Merrill) as Zeev Buium will get icetime over them… I could also see us get a 4th line veteran player for like a future 6th or 7th round conditional pick…

Seems like 2-3 guys are playing through a hernia every season. Usually they just have a really down year and then we find out about it when they get surgery after the season. I like this way of just getting fixed, 4-6 weeks is less recovery time than I’d expect

Billy G and Barreiro is just a fun listen! I love how Dan words his questions and just knows hes going to get Billy going. I was listening to it driving last night and had to replay this morning.

You wonder if this surgery option timing was always a part of the plan with Kirill? They tried to rest him for about a month, then play him for a few games to see how his body reacts, if he’s fine, then great, we get him back for 6-7 games before he gets another 2 weeks off OR if it’s still an issue then get the repair surgery scheduled asap and factor in 2 weeks of the recovery timeline will take place over the 4Nations Break???

The Wild’s choice was either losing him for 12 games (but he’s still playing with the hernia) or losing him for 20-24 games (depending on when he gets back after surgery) with it fully repaired…There would have only been like a week overlap if they decided to have him get the surgery right away in late December vs now and he still would have missed at least 21 games before the 4Nations break anyways…

When you look at it that way, it starts to make more sense…

I wouldn’t mind the Wild signing Brendan Saad now that he’s a UFA for the rest of this season… He’ll definitely have alot of teams interested in signing him for the pro-rated veteran minimum…

I was thinking the same thing. He’s been a Wild killer most of his career.

He gave up $5 million bucks by agreeing to terminate his contract, he’s going to want a big deal & term with whomever he signs with next or he chases a cup and signs with someone else this summer..

We could do the same thing with Jojo and get $2 million in capspace back…

    Fourth line is buzzing tonight

Lauko looks like he’s finally shaken the rust off and Marat finally has somebody who can skate with him now… once Kirill comes back we’ll no longer need an Iowa scrub as the other winger and that line can hopefully contribute more regularly…

Boldy needs to take about 10,000 1 timers this offseason… he’s missing out on 10+ goals a year because he either whiffs or misses the net on 1 timers…

Been saying that for years now and surprisingly he’s just not improving on it…

He had a great game with many chances point blank. Lapanta made a comment about him playing well tonight and was scored on about 2 seconds later. Announcers making those calls are the equivalent of saying shutout out loud.
