Well I think the other thing is that LA had all of these prospects at the time that were in consideration for return, Turcotte, Kaliyev, Clarke…
Considering that Turcotte is a center, I wanted him in return . We really got their best prospect out of the bunch… kind of goes to show how much fluff is in all lot of these team prospect pool rankings
I’m pretty sure Faber was ranked as the Kings # 4or5 prospect at the time? (1-Byfeld, 2-Clarke, 3-Turcotte 4 – Kaliyev?) but nobody (including the Kings) figured Faber would provide the amount of offense he has sofar in the NHL, it’s one of those rare late developing traits every Head of Scouting dreams about with their picks finding…The Kings had the #1 prospect pool at the time and i’m pretty sure Faber wasn’t at the top of the Wild’s wish list as Turcotte/Pinelli/Kaliyev were probably preferred (the Kings weren’t trading Clarke) but I believe Turcotte was in the middle of yet another concussion recovery (I think he’s had 4 since he was drafted and alot of folks thought his career was done, but he’s finally healthy this season and playing well for the Kings) so that scared the Wild off and they weren’t in any position to demand anything from the Kings, so they went with another need, RH Defenseman who can skate. Safe to say it worked out pretty well
