Faber played 31:30 of icetime last night, Zeev Buium is among the icetime leaders in the NCAA and the WJC tourney, if those guys pair up in the NHL it’s conceivable they could play close to half the game together!

Russo mentioned Ek had a bad limp and was walking towards the X-ray room after the game… no further update given…

All injuries aside, Ek and KK are the two real keys we need healthy. Obviously a healthy Gus makes a difference as does SPurgeon, but those two are the most important IMO. I cannot believe we have won what 3 games without KK over the last bit? I havent been able to watch many games, but did get last nights game.
Joe, this is where you insert BG is nuts for not getting Rossi on a 20 year extension ASAP. The hands on that tying goal were absolutely unreal.

I fear Rossi is going to be treated similar to how Fiala was. He deserves a spot long term with us but I don’t know if the brass feels the same. The dude is good and shows up when we need him to.

Two different players IMO. Rossi does not at all have the attitude that Fiala did for one. Two he is a center which is a lot more coveted and three he doesnt disappear for games on end like Fiala.
Aside from that BG has stated that he is not trading him. Granted those are words and if something fantastic came around that could change, but I think the brass if they had considered him expendable at one point, that may have changed the last couple years especially this year.

Rossi is either going to get extended for 2 years or 5+. The Wild can’t/won’t trade him until they know exactly what they have in Yurov and Heidt from a NHL center perspective…

If its a 2 year bridge deal and by the end he turns into a legitimate longterm NHL 1C, then you happily pay him a 1C AAV…

If its a longterm term extension, then you hope he continues on his current trajectory and you reap the rewards of a likely AAV bargain the back half of the deal…

Canada out of the WJC in Canada!!!!

Out in the quarterfinals for the 2nd straight year!

Team Crybay—err Canada has major attitude issues. There’s a primadonna complex where the Canadians expect an automatic pass to the finals and they come unhinged when the don’t get it.

Also has Junior hockey in Canada turned into some kind of Slapshot comedy movie situation where there are no rules and these kids are getting used to getting away with ridiculous penalties? Absolutely silly stupid play on the Canadians part. Multiple kneeing penalties? Multiple game misconducts in one tournament?

So… is that the same injury for Ek? Or a new one?

no idea, I assume new as they would be x-raying for a possible bone break likely from a blocked shot vs any soft tissue/tendon issue he had before… trying to remember if he played in OT or not? I know he at least lost the opening faceoff for OT…

I haven’t seen if Russo updated anything today…

It was a strange mention at the end of Russo’s story, maybe he confused Ek with someone else or maybe his editor butchered it?

Here’s the blurb from his story:

“ It sure was an impressive win for a team that can’t get out of this injury bug. Already without Kaprizov, Spurgeon, Jake Middleton and Jakub Lauko, Joel Eriksson Ek was seen limping badly after the game to the X-ray room. There was no update yet.”

Wild are dialed in tonight… Rossi is carrying the offense, distributing the puck everywhere… sign the kid for 8 years Billy!

Nice defensive effort tonight. And in turn, a nice game by Gus.

That might have been the most complete game the Wild have EVER played, seriously! and against a top opponent who’s been playing well and in their building… and without Kirill, Spurgeon and Middleton….

Boldy’s best game in a while, great to see!

Walz needs a boot to the head sometimes. Even brings up the shutout before the games over, what a moron. Luckily Gus still stuck the shutout lol.

Agreed, this is one of the best efforts start to finish all year.

Fun game to watch and nice to see Boldy having fun playing hockey again.

To beat a dead horse, the amount of money not on the ice is incredible and yet they are still putting points in the bank.

Thoughts from this thread’s least hockey-articulate member:

Not that long ago the Wild went like 17 periods without anyone besides Kirill scoring. I would say their recent week or two without him, starting with beating Dallas on the road without him and continuing through beating some good East coast teams, they’ve played better as a team.

So they did ok with KK but it was because he carried them. Maybe it took his injury for them to step up and be a better whole team.

solid take, they’ve definitely started to learn how to win without him, but it also shows Kirill and everyone else on the team/in the organization that the young guys like Rossi, Boldy & Faber are ready to take more responsibility/ownership of the team’s success…

Zeev Buium and team USA vs Aron Kiviharu & Rasmus Kumpelianan and team Finland for the WJC Gold tomorrow night…

Buium can do whatever he wants with the puck at this level, he completely controls and dominates the play when he’s on the ice. He looks alot stronger this year vs last, he’ll easily hold off a defender with 1 arm while skating the puck up the ice and his dangles at the blueline are crazy to watch…

He’ll add to all of the “Ohhhs and Ahhhs” Kirill typically gets from the crowd at the X…

Whatever Billy’s mental problem was with Rossi, he better finally be over it. There was definitely an organizational coldness towards Rossi, even Russo has commented on this. Constantly dangling a young player as trade bait is an unnecessary distraction and as I pointed out last year, anybody who doesn’t have their head up their breezers could see Rossi is a freaking beauty and is only going to get better.

It was only pure bad luck that Rossi didn’t have 25 last year. He clanked the pipe 2 or more times in at least 4 games. I said at the end of last season this kid is a 30 goal guy next season and look where he sits now–15 goals.

The other thing that particularly bugs me about the way the Wild front office has treated Rossi is since WHEN have the Wild had too many good centerman? The correct answer is freaking never. But somehow the mental giants in the front office were kinda lukewarm on a 20 goal / 40 point centerman? Like ho-hum we can get that from any center any day of the week. Idiots. No you can’t.

Rossi is going to have the last laugh on this one because as a 30 goal and nearly 60 point guy this year, Billy Gee is gonna get it good when it comes to the next contract.

Just a terrific complete game by the wild last night. It’s nice to see Boldy back on the horse.

I felt really bad for Jones and I’m sorry but this goaltender interference crap is just bs. How long do the goalies need to get reset after incidental contact? This is the second time recently that the contact has been incidental and initiated by a defenseman with the goalie having plenty of time and ability to still make the save and yet the goal has been waived off.

Get ready for more Rossi trade rumors to start up again as TSN’s Elliot Friedman reported on Hockey Night in Canada that Vancouver is shopping Elias Petterson and JT Miller and the first requirement for either player is a young NHL proven top 6 center going back to Vancouver…

Now name the young top 6 centers available in the league who would fit that bill…. Marco Rossi is probably at the top of that short list (Buffalo and Anaheim have players too) …so that’s why his name will get floated around on every trade blog/youtube channel out there…

Petterson’s $11.6 AAV likely keeps him in Vancouver, but JT Miller has a $8aav for the next 5 years, that’s a good deal for a 90+ point guy who’s great at faceoffs… now he’s 31 years old and has his on/off ice warts too, but he’s a dang good player…

Didn’t Rossi have multiple “first NHL goal/point” get waived off too? I remember thinking that kid can’t get a break.

yep, he had his 1st goal reversed and 2 or 3 other goals taken away after coaches challenges…

Grouse not sure why you think the front office treated Rossi poorly. Frankly they never once said he was a trade candidate. All the trade rumors started with media and Russo. Why because he was one of the only available by contract and value that other teams would even be interested in.
Do you think he was treated poorly because he was sent back to the AHL when he was clearly not ready or the fact that they made him train here in the off season to get better?
I don’t get this narrative the front office or BG don’t like Rossi.
