Groin injuries are awful especially when you constantly open your hips and try to push off the way Karill does.

injury might be a bad word to use in his case as he was playing through it as the NHL’s leading scorer, my guess is he told the trainers he’s felt a twitch every now and then recently and they used the holiday break to add extra days of rest… at least thats the vibe Russo said GMBG gave him…. The fact they put him on IR means nothing, it was retroactive before the holiday break, he can comeback whenever they want him to…

How do you guys know its a groin injury? It only says “lower body” injury on the designation. Unless someone verbally stated it was his groin publicy, it could be anything from the waist down.

The NHL never really says exactly what an injury is but typically beat writers like Russo are pretty well versed in being able to detect or read the tea leaves when around the players and staff what the injury truly is. If Russo says its a groin, it most likely is.

They don’t “know”, but that’s the educated guess from the media. “Reading the tea leaves” as Musky said

per Russo, Jake Middleton has started his return to play routine in terms of skating and conditioning, but that doesn’t surprise me with a broken hand, let me know when he starts shooting the puck… He still thinks he’ll be back more towards the end of January…

Gotcha. So its just a guess, not confirmed.

Russo said “I think its a groin” too. I’ll take his word for it.

How long is Spurgeon supposed to be out? Getting Middleton helps a little with that but if that’s not until the end of January it’ll be awhile.

I know injuries happen to every team in every sport, it just seems like one after another with the Wild this year. With the exception of a few, it seems like every main contributor to the team has missed some time this year.

    Reading the tea leaves

aka an off the record text from team trainers…It’s a give & take relationship with beat writers and the team…

unknown until his MRI results are released…the fact that he was in a full leg compression cast after the game obviously isn’t good, but the Wild have been extremely lucky with MRI results this year, hopefully that trend continues…

Russo segment on KFAN just now:

Middleton eligible to return Tuesday, but that might be unlikely/too soon.

MAF in net tonight, they’re handling Gus in a similar way to a lesser extent as KK with a lingering lower body injury.

BG will have more of an update on Spurgeon this evening but for now everyone seems to be adopting a “could’ve been worse” attitude.

with the way it looked a broken bone is probably less worse than torn knee ligaments… but per Russo’s last podcast, when GMBG gives the injury update presser, its typically not good…. The Wild can survive a few weeks until Middleton gets back, Faber will be putting in 35 minutes a night though…

GMBG let slip in his presser that he didn’t like the Predator player’s 3 game suspension when he loses Spurgeon for “2 to 3 weeks”

Chisholm has been a great add and has played well recently I’ve thought. He certainly doesn’t get talked about. We’ll see how he does with more minutes over this stretch though.

Are they gonna give jiricek a chance at all this season???

Heck even Merrill has been alright this year.

I heard L’Heureux got suspended for that hit on Spurgeon. I hope someone takes note and gets some payback next time we play Nashville. What a D Bag.

3-1 Czechia after 1st… Canada entering full panic mode, but NEVER count them out when playing in Canada…

Charlie Stramel had an assist on the GT goal and scored the GW goal for Sparty tonight. Ironically, against his previous team too, the Badgers.

Love Flower with the fake poke check and then the lightning quick glove save on Ovi

Faber played 31:30 of icetime tonight…

Impressive win on the road against one of the best teams in the league. Fleury looked good, especially in the shootout. I’ll take it!!

Wild down their #1 scorer and #1 goalie, and we see future HOF Fleury stop future HOF Ovechkin to win in the shootout. That was fun to watch.
