I’m afraid Gus could be in for a real tough season
he’s the reason this game isn’t 8-1 right now… can only fault him on the Marchment goal and that was from the top of the slot with 4 Wild players watching the puck…
This game reminds of Wallstedt’s a$$whooping in Dallas last year, hardly his fault and you just knew it was going to be an ugly game..
I sure hope this isn’t our new PK strategy tonight… there’s zero pressure on anything…
Gus is just in a real tough spot to start the year. Stuck between a first ballot HOFer on his last leg and the goalie of the future – expected to be the starter but with an extremely short leash. The team tried to trade him this summer and everyone is basically just waiting on him to fail.
Riley Heidt looked like a 19 year old WHL player tonight, he was always 1/2 second behind the play and a brutal turnover when he got scared going into a corner quickly turned into a Dallas goal…He flashed his offensive skills while playing almost all 2 minutes of a powerplay but he needs another year of junior hockey to get stronger & quicker/faster… zero chance he makes the Wild out of camp imo… if anything he might get cut early…
Hunter Haight looked better (you can really see the difference a year older makes) as he was calmer with the puck and was keeping up with the play more often. He’ll be interesting to watch in Iowa this season, will he take the next step or struggle?
Keep in mind they played against a pretty full Dallas team tonight, so that was about as tough a competition as they could have had…
You could see flashes of high-end skill through all of the mistakes…
The rest of the sure-thing roster guys (Rossi, Lauko, Khusnutdinov, Chisholm) played pretty well… Ohgren will likely start in Iowa, especially if they want Wallstedt up as the 3rd goalie…
I’m tired of watching scrubs that are predestined for Iowa or going back to Juniors… time to start playing the roster guys…
Joe, I gotta ask why the hate on the Bally’s Streaming service? I’m by no means biased towards them, I’m genuinely curious. I’ve used the Streaming service the last two seasons and the only issue I’ve had was listening to Audra Martin… I live in the middle of nowhere & have Sh!tty CenturyLink for WIiFi. Still no issues.
Oh, & KK97 Ain’t goin no where! lol
ooof, that Drew Doughty injury last night looked really ugly…
I agree on the goaltender assessent. They have a guy who’s at the end of his career, a placeholder guy who they wanted to get rid of, and a young uy who’s potentially the future but not ready for it. Last season goaltending was a major reason why they finished where they did. I feel like its just being set up for another failure in that category again this season.
I didnt watch much of the game but from what I saw many of the Stars NHLers were player and for the bit I watched I only saw Rossi on our side so it was a beer league game against kids.
TSN did their annual top 50 NHL players list, Kirill ranked 15th
15. Kirill Kaprizov, Minnesota Wild
2023-24 Ranking: 12
Kaprizov comes in on our list at No. 15 after registering 46 goals and 96 points in 75 games last season. The 27-year-old winger put his team on his back to close out the season, putting up 20 goals and 33 points in the last 21 games as the Wild fell short of the playoffs.

oh for sure, it was Varsity vs JV as Dallas played pretty much their entire opening night roster… GusBus kept them in the game, lots of our younger players played the 1st period scared (understandable) but got more comfortable as the game went on…
5-2 really isnt that bad of a result considering who the Wild put out there.

You mean carrying 3 goalies isn’t the recipe to win the Cup?
I’m a casual hockey fan, does the preseason actually say a lot about the team in the regular season?

No pretty much the same thing as NFL or any other professional sport for that matter. It only starts to take shape when they cut the rosters down for a better picture of who will be the NHL players. I think the wild have 50 players currently. I think they can only carry something like 23 during the regular season.

no, its very similar to other pro sports pre-season… Some teams will play their starters alot (like Dallas last night) and other teams won’t play their starters much at all, i’m guessing for fear they could get hurt (like Drew Doughty last night) this results in heavily skewed talent levels playing against each other. A good Wild example was 2 years ago when Marco Rossi I think led the entire league in preseason points (or was close to it) and then proceeded to play the first 18 games of the season scoring only 1 point and then spent the rest of the season in the AHL…
That Doughty injury looks very similar to a wild player a few years ago.
The league has an eight player minimum of nhl vets playing. Maybe they need some type of maximum as well.
Granted the home team almost always loads the roster and the away teams don’t because it’s better for the home fans. But last night was kind of cruel to the Wild youngsters.
They are professionals or at least they are trying to be I think they will be fine.
Good lord the Maple Leafs…

The more I watch this clip, the more I don’t understand wtf Robertson was doing??? It’s preseason and Nylanders guy wasn’t on a breakaway…it’s also strange how easily Nylander fell down, but you can see his head impacted the Canadiens player and Nylander has a recent concussion history…
Danila Yurov has 2 goals and 1 assist in his first 4 games…he missed the first few weeks of the KHL season after recovering from an offseason surgery…
Much better lineup for the Wild tonight vs the Jets… Kirill makes his debut along with a big chunk of the veterans mixed in with the young roster hopefuls..
Game will be streamed on Wild.com (I’m telling you, they are testing this streaming platform to see if its a viable option for next season and moving forward, only issue I have is trying to directly stream in through my Samsung smart tv browser because it won’t open the Wild.com website correctly, so i’m having to pass it through my iphone, still works great, just a bit extra work to set it up)

Thanks for that Joe, that’s great to hear as I’m taking my 4- and 6-year olds for their first game.
Im glad they at least play some of the stars at home so our fans and Dan’s kids can see them. That is why Dallas did it too.

I hope you are right. I’d like another streaming option other than Bally’s app. It was horrible for buffering and logging in last season and I’m sure they are not investing anything to improve it. I won’t even pay the $20 a month for it this year and I’m not about to pay upwards of $150 for a tv package that I don’t watch but one or two channels done with that crap a number of years ago.
My Amazon Fire does not get the Wild app but I can watch it on my laptop which will be good enough for now. Sounds like Amazon is going to be bidding for a big part of the NHL rights in 2026. Anything on Amazon streams flawlessly for me so I hope they are successful.

Honestly is there even a reason to play pre season games in any sport except to make more money for a franchise.
Let’s just say preseason games get scrubbed all together in professional sports would it make a difference to anyone except the owners of a team?
It is kind of a tradition that is kind of silly at that level if you think about it.
Have fun Dan. My suggestion popcorn for first period mini donuts for the second leave early in the third and hopefully they fall asleep on ride home.
Oh and find Nordy.
The nice thing about this Wild.com streaming is that you can pass the signal to a TV, this means Wild games up north at the cabin!
All of the other options dont allow you to project your phone screen to a tv…
It looks like Faber somehow got quicker over the summer.. good lord he’s good…
Hellebuck is just getting shelled out there. The JV versus varsity is more fun when your team has the starters going.
Ovey….. the Wild coaches need to go back to the drawing board on the PK strategy…. Yes all of the PK players aren’t in the games, but the ones that are follow the new PK gameplan/strategy and its not working… the first 2 games have looked just as bad…
Our Powerplay on the other hand has looked really good, quick puck movement everywhere…
