I thought Hartman takes all the important end of game draws? Guess not… he’s fallen back out of favor already huh?

Wild have the look of a team that is ready to be done playing hockey. Not the way you want to be finishing the season.

It looks increasingly likely that the Jets will be the first round opponent now. If the Wild qualify that is.

The question now is being slaughtered by the Jets better than missing the playoffs completely?

Calgary would be a more worthy opponent for Winnipeg IMO

This team is so broken right now it’s not even funny. Even the fearless leader is losing his marbles after games. Minnesota Twins major collapse last year. Wild oh yeah hold my beer.

Russo said Billy was absolutely bat$hit fuming after the game last night about the Horvat hit indicating Middleton is likely out for a long time…

Danila Yurov’s season ended this morning (he scored a PP goal)… this team is so desperate for ANY help right now how do you not at least try to pay his KHL team whatever $ they want to void the remaining months of his contract and fly him over asap? I know it would be better to bring him over for next season, but you’re scraping and clawing to make the playoffs right now…

Surprised they haven’t swapped Brazeau with Ohgren to try and get even a small chance of additional scoring help? Brazeau is a complete waste of icetime…

Or do we do nothing because we’re guaranteed to make the playoffs? )

One small thing to think about if this team completely chokes the next 5 games is the top 5 pick protection Billy got in the Jiricek trade… It seemed like an afterthought when the trade took place (Wild had the 2nd best record in the NHL) and we would likely need to move up 8-10 spots in the draft lottery (not likely) but hey at least its a possibility…. I totally forgot about it…

Reminds me of a couple years back when the Jets throttled the Wild in the first round. They had the same look.

Financially I don’t think they can do either move. I could be wrong. Maybe Middleton changes that scenario.
If they fail to make the playoffs that would be one of the biggest collapses I can recall.

This is not possible. The wild are at 89 points.

never said they would finish as one of the top 5 worst teams, they would obviously need ping pong ball luck… It would take alot of things to go right to get 15th worst overall, if not then yes its not possible because you can only move up 10 spots max..

Again this is just a longshot of getting some good out of a possible terrible outcome…

Ha I actually forgot about the ping pong ball lottery movement. I don’t think we would get that lucky.

the way this season has gone we’d move up 9 spots and Columbus would get the #6 pick…

Calgary tied Vegas last night so the point differential is 4 and Calgary still has a game in hand and we play them in Calgary on Friday.

The craziest part is their game in hand is the very last game of the season vs the Kings due to the original game getting cancelled months ago due to the California wild fires.

So its possible the Wild won’t know their playoff fait until the last gameof the regular season ends… oh and the Kings probably won’t have any reason to play the game for seeding purposes and will rest their stars for the playoffs…Sounds great huh?

Its also worth noting Calgary would need 5 wins in regulation of their last 6 games to even the tiebreaker, so they don’t control their fate with just the game in hand and the vs Wild in Calgary game…

A win today against Dallas would reduce the % of this happening alot!

I think if the Wild can manage 5 points in their last 5 games they should make the playoffs and get the honor of being swept in 4 games by Winnipeg. The Wild need to take care of business against San Jose & Anaheim and find one more point in the other three games. If they manage that Calgary will need 9 points to tie and 10 to pass the Wild in their remaining six. (I don’t know what the tie breaker would be if they both end up with 94 points and don’t care enough to look it up)

Apparently Middleton escaped major injury, he’ll be ready for the playoffs if not sooner…

Crazy thing about Ovi breaking the record is that he missed about the equivalent of 2 NHL seasons due to the lockout and covid shortened seasons… 2!!

He’s likely be close to 1,000 goals if he played them…

They showed Gretzky’s stats from each 100 goal range side by side with Ovi and it was incredible. Ovi has been so dang consistent it’s crazy.

The 4 differences I think about when comparing Gretzky’s 894 goals and Ovi’s 895 is that Gretzky was playing with 3-4 future Hall of Famers for the majority of his years in Edmonton (that would likely never be possible in Ovi’s salary cap era) and the goalie talent back when Gretzky played is nothing like it is in Ovi’s era… Ovi’s era got the benefit of eliminating clutching & grabbing and the improved stick/equipment technology…. It’s cool we got to see two completely different style of players score 894+ goals(Gretzky with the finesse/thinking game, Ovi with the Russian tank/power game)

How those compare to each other and which had a bigger benefit is a much longer discussion for another time…

Thought Minnesota had a pretty good period there even though they’re down 1-0.

I’d quite surprised that the Capitals are so good this season as a team. They were projected to be a borderline playoff team. The fact that they’re the best team in the eastern conference is remarkable and only adds to the novelty of Ovechkins goal record.

Great effort by Jojo to not get out to block Harley’s shot that turned into a goal… it might have hurt….
