If it is about the money for Rantannen then why would he not just hit free agency. 12 mill will be their whether he is traded or not. Most likely with a contender of his choice as well.
He couldn’t come to an agreement with Colorado, Carolina and possibly Dallas. He clearly wants to hit free agency and leverage that. Frankly don’t blame him for that. Guessing both himself and agent know what the market is going to do the next few years.

Friedman just reported the deal with Dallas is back on…He would make $4 million more over the life of a 8 year deal with Dallas vs Colorado because of state income tax…not sure $4 million is a dealbreaker, but you gotta think Colorado offered him a 8 x $12 contract which would be under MacKinnon…

At this point losing in the first round in 3 games is almost a given. Why even bother with 4?

Hey as a whole he has more goals than the entire Wild 4th line combined, including the 2 guys traded for him

I’m fine with it. I don’t think it moves the needle much either way, but also think a 2 for 1 and draft pick was probably more than they needed to pay. Again Lauko meh. 6th rounder Meh. I was not that high on Marat but he had a little more upside to probably give long term. Just seems like a move for this year that probably won’t make a difference with playoff success.
I just think it more proves that prospects are just that. Most are a dime a dozen outside of the elite ones.
BG definitely has a type pretty sure he wouldn’t give a red head a look in the dating department. LOL

Stankhoven and 2 x 1st round picks and other smaller pieces going back & forth for Rantanen to Dallas…Again it will be interesting to see how Dallas fits crucial other contracts under the cap the next few years…

If you’re a Hurricane player, you gotta be saying wtf is this GM doing adding pieces for 3-4 years from now? They now have some ammo (2 x 1sts) to make additional pickups today though so we’ll see if he can add some scoring help for now…

O-Dog just said on TSN “is this GM Amateur Hour in Carolina?”

I still think their GM makes as big a splash he can in the next hour to save some face…Boeser? Marchand? we’ll see…

I would imagine Avs fans have some questions for Sakic on what they offered to Rantanen after he signs for $12aav for 8 years with a Division rival…

and then to hear about the trade for the next 8 years everytime Rantanen factors into a Dallas win vs the Avs (like Sakic will be around for 8 years…)

It will be interesting to see who he gets paired up with. No doubt he benefitted from being on a line with McKinnon no? Dallas has some stars and they didnt have to give up Robertson for him so perhaps that is a good spot to put him in?

How does Carolina NOT do a deal right now? How do you sell “The Now” to veteran players like Burns, Svetchnikov and Aho and their Coach Brind’Amore by turning Necas, Drury and Ranatanen into 5’7″ Logan Stankhoven and future 1st round picks???

Probably Hinz…but he’ll be absolutely lethal on their powerplay…

ok, so to recap the deadline for the Wild, keep in mind ANY success will depend on if Kirill and Ek coming back healthy and can somehow pick up where they left off (although Ek has had a down year)

I like the Nyquist trade as he can help in secondary scoring and maybe the PK, but I don’t know what Brazeau gives us? (Not that Marat and Lauko were giving us much when they were here) but he’s not physical, he doesn’t kill penalties and he’s not a great skater…is GMBG really counting on him to score goals from the 4th line?

I’m glad We didn’t overpay for a rental (some will question the 2nd rounder for Nyquist, but that was the going price for retention added)…to put up a comparable deal the Avs paid for Brock Nelson would have cost us Danila Yurov, 2026 1st round pick, Declan Chisholm and a 3rd round pick…Maybe i’d feel a little better if they signed him this offseason knowing it cost the Avs so much for a rental…

The difference here between Winnipeg/Dallas/Colorado and Minnesota is that those other 3 teams are built to win a Stanley cup now. They think they have the roster to do it and they’re trying to improve their chances now.

Minnesota knows “they don’t have the cards” to put it lightly. jester

The Wild’s best bet now is we somehow sneak into the 2nd round healthy and everyone else beats each other up in their 1st round matchups and limps into the 2nd round…I’m obviously biased, but I kinda feel like we deserve that outcome after the way this season has played out…
