Checked a couple small ponds by me and one is pretty solid. Might try to fish it later today.

new report from same lake. It now has 6″ of ice from 3″ on Friday night.
December 1, 2024 at 8:16 pm #2302426Buddy has a cabin on West Battle. This morning it still had open water. By about 3 in the afternoon it was all locked up.
December 2, 2024 at 9:34 am #2302488Spent Turkey Day at the in-laws in Nebraska, pretty much every pond was locked up on the drive home, and even the Platte River looked slushy. I did see a guy ice fishing a small pond in NW Iowa on the way home.

December 2, 2024 at 5:32 pm #2302641According to my Facebook feed, everyone was ice fishing over the weekend in MN and WI.
December 5, 2024 at 7:43 am #2303115Looks like the ice held up.
JR’s Corner Access
Ice held up great with all the wind yesterday.
Starting Daylight we will be allowing Atv, side by sides and snowmobiles out to 1 mile. If you want to go further you will park and walk from them there.
We are also staked 1.5 miles west towards the rock pile. We have a parking area marked as well where you can park and walk from there if wanting to venture further.December 9, 2024 at 1:54 pm #2303933We had 4-5 of solid clear ice in NW Wi last weekend on small lakes but fishing was tough. All our keepers came early at first light on a lake with a little snow cover. The second lake was almost pure ice and no snow. We believe the fish could see us very easy fishing in 6-9 feet of water on pure ice. Hell, I was drilling holes right next to individual weeds I could clearly see. You could see fish scatter from the graph if you moved. I did catch one keeper crappie on the second no-snow lake and
an eagle snatched it when I moved holes..Highbeeze24Posts: 120December 9, 2024 at 2:17 pm #2303939Was on 6″ Friday and Saturday. Good ice, super slick on Saturday with the slight melt. I’m convinced people just want to get hurt on the ice as both days with dozens of people out there, I was the only one with cleats. I was able to put together a couple of nice meals. Had a buddy check Ida in Monticello as he lives close by and wouldn’t you know it, someone had to be first and put his wheel house just out from the access and Saturdays heat and wind took care of letting that one drop through. They had gotten it out but not without some pretty good damage. North side of that lake still wide open with Swans.

I think a lot of people also leave the cleats off to avoid spooking fish.

I’m all for tossing them off once you get out there but it’s a rough go of it when you’re pulling gear. I had three groups 1/3 of the way back to the access on Friday when I started dragging back in. I beat every one of them back to the access with ease.
December 10, 2024 at 1:56 pm #2304120Checked ice on Latoka by Alexandria. Threw some rocks on the ice. They stayed on until they hit the open water 200 feet out……

December 12, 2024 at 9:52 am #2304463Hoping to get out on a Mpls city lake tomorrow, has anyone seen activity out there?
December 12, 2024 at 1:17 pm #2304550I drove by Nokomis last Sunday and saw two guys fishing about 100 yards off shore near the beach house. Have no idea what ice conditions were like though.
December 12, 2024 at 2:00 pm #2304560Drove all around Minnetonka yesterday, surprised to see that all the bigger bays and channels were still open water. The wind was whipping up some decent waves and I assume current. Careful out there folks!
December 12, 2024 at 2:35 pm #2304574for what its worth, i didnt drive by the horseshoe chain, but just talked to a guy that talked to a guy going out on horseshoe by Richmond, says wheelers are out there and 14 inches of ice.

December 13, 2024 at 6:15 pm #23048438 inches of ice in downtown talmoon. Hardly any snow on the lake, 4-6 inches of crusty snow on land!
