Wasn’t Bradbury ranked below 25th out of 32 Centers?
His rating was 70.2 but I have no idea where that puts him. He only allowed 2 sacks though so it was a much better year for him.
Looks as though Cousin Kirk is a team player after all!; he redid his contract to give the team 16 mil in cap space!!
Did the Bradbury contract include any clause about him wearing reverse lights so Cousins can get a fair heads up before he gets ran over too?

Well he only played 12 games.
Yeah no idea where 70.2 puts him amongst centers.
Continuity is usually a big part of any o line.

Bears fan here. You at least have a Center.
The salary cap games played in the NFL is just bonkers…it just seems like the plan is to just keep pushing payment due dates out farther and farther into the future…

Agreed. One of the guys on KFAN this morning made a real good point when he said that there are a select few people on this earth who are salary cap gurus and any fan or random Twitter guy who tries to explain salary cap situation likely doesn’t know what he’s talking about.
I did hear something that provides a little clarity though, and that’s that they’re expecting the cap to rise starting in 2024, so teams might be more willing to push some of today’s money into that, knowing they’ll have more room.
Salary cap in NFL goes up just about every year. Went up this year almost 20million.
Salary cap goes up every year but so do the players salary. So it probably ends up being a wash in the end. I think you can only do the salary cap game for so long and sooner or later you have to pay the piper. Look at the Rams, they have been unloading players. They trade for Ramsey like 2-3 years ago and give up 2 first round draft choices and they just now traded him for a third round pick.
I’m pumped they resigned Mattison, and at a very reasonable 2 years $7M ($8 with incentives). He does 97% of what Cook does, with fewer fumbles and injuries at a 1/4 the cost. Plus sharing the backfield with Chandler and Nwangwu. Hopefully they have someone lined up to trade for Cook, his contract and a mid round draft pick would be good imo.
I agree, if you would’ve told me a month ago we’d get free-agent Mattison for $7-$8 million over the next two years I would’ve been ecstatic.
Hoping that means there’s a plan to get rid of Dalvin. There’s definitely some seasoned, good RB’s on the market right now in Cook, Miles Sanders, and Zeke Elliott, as well as Austin Ekeler if he can line up a trade to get away from the Chargers. I did hear that the Cowboys were trying to shop Zeke for a later-round pick and ended up releasing him because that wasn’t materializing, so that has me a little worried about return value for Cook because they’d take on salary of his too. At this point a mid-to-late-round pick for him would be wonderful.
i will be shocked if they actually have an offer to trade Cook. probably a smokescreen to get some team to cough up a pick.

He went from being ranked 29th out of 32 centers in the league to 9th this past season. Pretty darn good improvement. Only committed 4 penalties and allowed 2 sacks in 12 games played.
Bradbury, who was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 29 center in the NFL in 2019, No. 26 in 2020 and No. 30 in 2021, carried a 2022 ranking of No. 9 for the 13-4 Vikings.
^Interesting… because Bradbury didn’t crack the top 10 in either “Run Block Win Rate” or “Pass Block Win Rate”

I think there’s more to it than that. I’m not exactly sure what PFF uses to rank a player at their position, but I’m sure the number of sacks allowed and penalties committed is in there too, and he didn’t have very many of either.
He had 8 penalties and 2 sacks allowed the year prior while taking 80 more snaps.

That explains partially why he was ranked at 30 out of 32 at the position lol
So 4 more penalties with more snaps moves you from 9th to 30th. Yeah not so sure about that.

Maybe the rest of the league’s centers got worse?

PFF is pretty garbage imo. To really assess this stuff they would need to know the blocking scheme and assignments in relation to the actual execution. However it’s widely adopted as somewhat of a standard metric, and they factor QB pressures in similar to sacks. And Bradbury was a turnstile that whole year, Kirk just got rid of it *just* before being sacked about 236 times.
I wouldn’t have surprised me to hear that Bradbury was gone, but evidently there weren’t any options to replace him that made sense to the Vikings. It may work out for the Vikes in the long run though since Bradbury improves each season and hasn’t reached his peak as a player yet. If Cousins could do something more than stand in one spot, he’d help not on Bradbury but the whole offensive line. It’s not easy to protect and far easier to defend a stationary QB that’s not a threat to scramble. I think Cousins lack of mobility is a large part of the offensive line’s problems.
Smith resigned … many Vikings are renegotiating their contracts and trying to stay a Viking.
They must believe they are close to winning it all or really like the kool-aid.
Weird choice.
Who knows if he had other choices?
A front loaded, 3 year contract worth 24 million and $14 million guaranteed for a guy who will turn 33 before the season.
I think a lot of teams would love to add a Thielen to the WR room as a #3 WR veteran red zone target, but not at anything close to that salary
^It just seemed like he would be a perfect fit for any “win now” type team. I can’t blame the guy for taking the money to end his career though either.
I really thought he’d end up in KC or San Fran.
