LOL! No disrespect, but they haven’t drafted a DL in the first round in 15 years…they don’t believe in building the trenches on the D. Simple fact..

First of all, that’s not true, they drafted Shariff Floyd in 2013. And the Vikes have had solid to elite D-Lineman drafted in the later rounds or undrafted for most of their history, plus solid DL are always available in the market, so spending that draft capital is not the best decision imo. John Randle was undrafted, Everson Griffen was a 4th rounder, Danielle Hunter was a 3rd rounder, Brian Robison was a 4th rounder, Ray Edwards was a 4th rounder. They traded for Jared Allen and signed Pat Williams, Linval Joseph in FA. And for every Kevin Williams there are busts like Kenechi Udeze, Derrick Alexander, Duane Clemons and Demetrius Underwood. And that goes league wide, everyone loves Hutchinson and the Bosa’s but forget about Chase Young or Jadaveon Clowney.

Anyway it’s week 6, let’s save the draft talk! lol

I don’t see the Vikings winning at Chicago. They will get smoked by the 9ers. And I don’t see them winning in Green Bay either.

That would put them at 1-7. Probably 2-6 best case. Hope I’m wrong but would personally rather see them trade Cousins, sit JJ, and look towards the future rather than limp along.

Kudos to those staying positive but it’s just not reality IMO.

Trading Cousins and sitting your star receiver for the rest of the year is further from reality.

Sorry pro athletes and organizations don’t think or operate like that.
Doesn’t exactly instill the best culture to sit your best player just so you can try and lose.
Sure fire way to lose a locker room and get everyone fired.

That and that NTC thing in Cousins contract is a bit problematic when trying to trade him mid season which is difficult enough in the NFL.

C’mon dude…you can play that game with any position.

So one DL in the first round in 18 years and you are OK with that?

At least you’re honest and are now on record saying you don’t believe in building the D line with first rounders…I say good luck to any team with that philosophy..

Hate to say it, but, the best move is trading the QB and the star WR.

Likely get a 3rd or 4th round pick for Cousins, 2nd at best. But, they should get a Tyreek Hill type haul for Jefferson – 5 draft picks.

That should put them in prime position for one of the top QB’s in the draft, which is supposed to be one of the best QB drafts in a long time, with extra picks to help with OL, DL, RB, CB, LB, etc…….

And I agree, they a likely to be 1-7 after 8 games.

Have you guys seen the Bears and Packers play this season? They aren’t exactly juggernauts. Both of them aren’t going any further this season than the Vikings. In fact, I would argue that the Vikings have been more competitive in their games than both of them so far. The Lions absolutely destroyed the Packers last week in Green Bay, and the Chiefs manhandled the Bears a couple weeks ago.

Who is this mystery team that Cousins is going to uproot his family for in the middle of the season? Certainly not a juggernaut top 6 team in the NFL to try and win a Super Bowl.

Chiefs 49ers Eagles Dolphins Buffalo? Oh wait they have QB’s?

Or is it one of those non playoff teams that he can just sign with in the off season if he chooses?

Only the NBA rests star players and tries to tank for better draft picks – which in away is strange because it is a lottery.

NFL teams try to win every game even when sports pundits (God there are too many of these) and some fans think otherwise.

Kirk has a no trade clause, a flip phone, dial up modem and a minivan. 155% he is not getting moved.

Caleb Williams would look good in purple tho…………..

So because they havent done it means they shouldnt? OK, I will put that down on my draft strategy rulebook because clearly they havent been addressing needs. In 15 years there were many in there where they didnt need to address it, but now they do. They also need an interior OL, but many times those can be had in later rounds. Dont reach for someone, but if there is someone there at a position of need you get them.

This made me laugh. I agree it’s more than unlikely he gets traded or they even think about that.

There are still 3 weeks until the trade deadline. The Jets have to be still looking, and there is the possibility a contending team gets a QB hurt. The discussion with Cousins would be, you can go try and win a Superbowl with a contending team, he is in the last year of his contract, it would only raise his value. I am sure he would waive the no-trade clause. Staying with a 3-5 win Vikings would not do anything to raise his value.

And the Vikes brought in Colt McCoy for a workout, why would they do that???

    Its possible…..

They aren’t. They have no money or draft picks as trade value. They spent the savings account and draft picks on Rodgers.

Uncertainty on the health of Mullins.

And your scenario is correct if it’s a contending team but that’s about it. So if Brock Purdy gets hurt and the 9ers want to make a big trade I’m sure Kirk would consider it. Same with the Eagles, Chiefs, Dolphins, whatever. Outside of those teams no reasonable person, entering a free agent year, would leave their known commodity team and start all over with new playbook, new chemistry, new WR’s to throw to, all in a contract year.

Kirk ain’t going anywhere unless Purdy, Hurts, Mahomes, Tua or maybe Josh Allen get hurt.

If the Jets had capital, they would have already done something. Nobody actually wants to have a win now team led by Zach Wilson, but they have no choice.

I still think the Vikings will win at least half of their next 6 games and probably play .500 football from there forward. Those thinking they will finish with 3-5 wins total are missing the idea that they’ve been in every game AND their upcoming schedule gets easier.

The MN Vikings are on the clock with the 14th pick in the 2024 NFL draft….or somewhere around there.

Well that’s not what I said, just that the defensive line really hasn’t been an issue the last 2 decades without those top end picks except for a couple years recently. I’m much more concerned, and therefore think it should be much higher draft priority, in solidifying the interior OL and finding a QB of the future.

Exactly. Can’t trade for someone if you have nothing to trade with.

So again why would he wave his NTC to go to the soon to be 2-4 jets. In the same conference as the Finns and Bills. How would this help his FA money that as a QB has made more than most already.

Sorry he ain’t going anywhere if he was, what leverage would the vikes have to get anything in return.

If they want to move on and draft a QB that’s one thing but he is not getting traded.

The same reason they brought in the Gophers former QB. They need a practice QB that has more time on their hands than I do. jester

If he gets traded to a team good enough to make a super bowl run the picks become late round picks. Why would the Vikings do that? Quarterbacks are to hard to come by you would never break up a decent quarterback with good wide receivers to fall backwards in the draft. Hitting a franchise quarterback late in the first round is akin to hitting the Powerball jackpot. Possible but very unlikely.

All this trading Cousins is fueled 100% by the press when Erin went down. The Jets have nothing left to trade and if they did Cousins wouldn’t go there anyway. The Jets have nothing to offer him. They can’t offer a contract extension, they can’t offer him a fat bonus, they can’t offer him Jefferson.

Im so tired of this Vikings are trading Cousins talk. Its all you see on social media, ESPN, etc. Its NOT GOING TO HAPPEN! In other news, Jefferson was sprinting at the practice facility yesterday. Did they put him on IR too soon? now he has to sit for at least 4 games and it may not have been necessary.

Charch said on KFAN this morning that if you take Deandre Swift’s yardage out, the Vikes defense is giving up 2.8 yards per carry.

Fields looks like he hurt his hand when he was tackled. He’s been sent to the locker room.

The backup QB looks like a deer in the headlights. Fumbled and a scoop 6 for the defense on his first possession.

I would have gone with a punt, instead of the long-field goal attempt. Much better chance of turning the rookie over on a long field and a much better chance of them scoring a TD on a short one.
