The Vikes and their penalties….. they really need to clean that aspect up. They give up far too many yards.

Surely you cannot be serious. They ranked 24th in the league last year. Under Zimmer yes, they had far too many penalties, but he is gone.

The Defense is going to stink. I think people are vastly over estimating the impact Flores will have. You still need talent, and this defense has very little of it.

I think you’d have one guy (Harry) on the defense that would start for Philly, that’s it.

And I don’t see any top young talent on the D to look forward to. They’ve neglected the D-Line in the draft for the past dozen years or so. I’m sure folks will respond and say Evans, Becton, Asamoah, Pace are the future…but those are just ‘guys’…every team has ‘guys’…they’re nothing special..

Everyone knows the defense is still going to be bad. The difference here is that it legit cannot get any worse than it was last year. They will have more speed on d than they have ever had which is what they lacked extremely last season. Like I said earlier in this thread, they are going to make a lot of big impact plays, but they are going to give up a lot of big impact plays as well.

Last year’s D, for as bad as they played in yards allowed, made up for it with clutch turnovers that won games. I think it’s premature to make a judgment on what these years D will do; there are way too many unknowns. I think they will need to improve to be middle to slightly below the middle of the pack in yards allowed and a few points to the plus side on take/give to be a playoff team. The middle of the pack may or may not translate to a D that stinks. It depends on how they play in the clutch.

There are a lot of unknowns in the NFC North this year right now. It makes things exciting to see what teams will step up or fall flat. Maybe they will all step up or all fall flat; who knows?

They might be “guys” but all we had last season was washed up statues. Especially in the linebacking group. That group is going to be so fast this year I think they could be pretty exciting to watch. It might not be good, but they will be flying around.

If you put last year’s defensive stats on a defense without Vikings household names like Harry, PP, Kendricks, Hunter, and solid newcomer Z. Smith I think even more people would hate it, but a lot of people (myself included) had/have memories of those guys all being clutch contributors. What’s important to remember is statistically they can hardly get worse.

Agreed on the speed, and some youth as well. Unproven defense, might suck. But definitely a change.

100% agreed. There is so much turnover that the overall defense is TBD, but should definitely be a lot faster and more physical. All new CB’s, LB’s (save Hicks) and half the DL. James Lynch’s injury is a bummer tho, I was looking forward to him getting more playing time. Davenport and Dean Lowry should be nice additions up front. And it will be interesting to see how Flores utilizes the 12 safeties rotflol , but seriously we will likely see Hitman, Metellus, Bynum, and Cine all getting a decent amount of playing time.

The Vikings are 6.5 point favorites at home on Sunday against the Bucs.

Tampa is expected to be one of the worst teams in the league this season, along with Houston and Arizona.

It will be a quick turnaround in week 2, as the Vikings visit the defending NFC Champs in Philly on Thursday Night Football. Week 2 will be a much stiffer test than week 1 with minimal time to prepare.

Seeing that it is only Week 2, the starters sat all pre-season, and it is a road game, I would expect the coaches and players to be ready to go in Philly and the game plan to be mostly in place right now.

I really like the first-month schedule for the Vikes and the Pack. I think we should know pretty quickly is there is something there to work with or whether it is going to be a struggle.

I wouldn’t underestimate what good coaching can do. Hopefully Flores can take a group of unknowns and make something.

I just hope they don’t overlook the Bucs, because 1 I don’t think the Vikings are that good to mail it in and win against anyone. And 2 the Bucs players aren’t mailing in the season, like the front office may like them too. I like Baker and think he may have a bounce back year, he had some off field stuff (suing his Financial advisors aka his Dad/Brother for a $12M fraud) that was a long time coming apparently.

I refuse to buy into all the Lions hype about them being this sleeper team. Lions going to do Lion things, nothing to see here. Not impressed with Fields or Love so these are .500 teams. Love has a better chance because there is no film on him yet and GB has some talent like always. Unless Fields takes a giant leap and learns to pass, he will get figured out.

Its the Vikings division to lose coffee

Some mid 1st round QBs looking good tonight.

Quin Ewers for Texas and Bo Nix for Oregon…

I would love it if the Vikes would start aggressively drafting QBs. I don’t have a problem with Cousins but would like somebody in the wing’s learning.

Took about a quarter to give up on the run game.

But, but I thought Brian Flores was going to turn the defense into the 84′ Bears??

    LOL!

Bucs are terrible and will be drafting in the top 10 next year…right next to the Vikes..

3 turnovers, 2 in the red zone, and a sloppy offsides penalty on a Bucs FG. Those are some extremely critical mistakes that directly costed them points, and gave some to Tampa. Maybe some time in the pre season would have helped.

    Thursday night in Philly? Yikes.

At my local watering hole, it was a nearly unanimous 200-3 that the Vikings would win and Mayfield n the Bucs didn’t stand a chance. Well, I shoulda bet each of the 200 $1. There’s a reason they still play the game each week.

The ignorance of skipping the preseason really shows. Vikings are in trouble after only one week doah

The Vikings team pissed off and humililated. Eagles thinking the game is in the bag at home. Classic trap game scenario. I think the Eagles are in for a dog fight, same as this week vs. the Patriots. I will be surprised if the Vikes get routed.

Cousins should have seen at least 2 quarters in each of the pre-season games just to get his attention.

OMG…..one game in and you can see the clueless fanbase panic set in.
I thought the D played well. I also believe KOC got outcoached in the second half especially.
We’re onto Philly, who gives a shhhh!

How could the D have played well? That was a terrible Tampa offense.

The offsides on the TB field goal was certainly an absolute killer. It was (4-point TD – FG differential) the margin of victory at the end of the game.

With Godwin and Evans as your top two receivers … Mayfield will have completions.

Kirk did not much time on most plays especially in the 2nd half – his progression cut short to the closest receiver … often at or behind the line of scrimmage.

Kirk did not have much change in the 2nd half. TB controlled the possession clock.

That’s what this fan base does best. Jump ship as soon as possible lol

The sky is not falling here, yet. If those turnovers get taken care of, and that sloppy penalty is addressed, they win the game pretty easily. The lack of a run game is a little concerning though. They can’t just be one-dimensional the whole game. Cousins isn’t gonna last all season if he’s on his back every other play either. Bradbury and Darrisaw both got hurt, but I think Darrisaw may have returned later in the game.
