Decided to hunt tonight in 277 since it’s a 3 deer limit unit.
Went to the south parking lot of the piece I had E scouted this morning at work. Wouldn’t you know it there was a truck parked there.
So I headed to the north parking lot. It was off to plan B.
Set up in a pinch point that had a bunch of Burr Oaks that had dropped acorns
Around 6 pm 3 does came from the SW when the biggest one cleared a tree at 22 yards I let the arrow fly.
Here is the end result and the set up.Attachments:
October 7, 2023 at 10:33 am #2228658Nice MB. I had similar results last night. Did a scout, hang and sit on some public in the Crosby area. Sat top of a ridge with nice oaks overlooking a pond with nice trails through it. Two does came out and I took the bigger of two.

October 7, 2023 at 10:42 am #2228665Good job guys. I been so busy I haven’t been able to get out. This week I’m hoping to start looking at the land in savage and hope to get out by end of the week

Yes, wind can be your Allie.
Get the wind direction in your favor and use it to mask any noise you could make.
A steady wind in the range from 10 to 25 is great. Those light and variable winds are a bowhunters worse nightmare.October 7, 2023 at 3:28 pm #2228695Quick recap from SD… the deer won! We got into good numbers of deer, and passed many smaller bucks. In the end we all had opportunities at nice bucks that went wrong one way or another. This was the first trip I’ve been on that we didn’t go home with at least a couple deer in the coolers. We spent the majority of out time hunting Juniper choked draws. This was not easy since you rarely knew exactly where the deer bedded down. You would have to move in and try to sneak through very thick cover hoping to find the deer before it saw, heard, or smelt you coming. When we moved into more open country we could at least see the deer in beds but stalking through knee high grass made for it’s own challenges.
The last day I could have killed a smaller 4×4 multiple times, but felt unsure about sending an arrow 50-60 yards in a 30-40MPH cross wind with gusts as high as 50. The only dead animal found at the end of any of my stalks was this buffalo. Shortly after taking this pic I had a heard of about 60 come barreling off the hill side, and run past me a little under 100 yards away. Pretty wild feeling the ground vibrate as those big critters go running past.
All things considered it was a awesome trip, and we got to see some very cool country. We all agreed we will be applying for SD again.

October 9, 2023 at 5:55 pm #2229209Decided to scout my way through a new area. Found a spot with insane rubs and pawing for acorns. In a crazy tree one stick high.
October 9, 2023 at 8:58 pm #2229242Crazy sit. Saw 4 heard 5 more. Spooked another 3 or 4 on the walk out.
October 11, 2023 at 10:39 am #2229594Had a good sit Saturday. 3 different bucks came thru last hour of light. Poked one

October 11, 2023 at 7:35 pm #2229736Back on the farm west of little falls this evening. Decided to take a seat on edge of alfalfa field after finding some fresh scrapes just inside the woods. Deer came out and sure didn’t mind the ground blind I just put up for next weeks youth hunt. Will let the daughter take one.

But I will be out all weekend. Still have a 1 bonus tag and my either sex tag.
Deer cast is showing a pretty dang good weekend to hunt. It’s actually showing great for Saturday morning.
We are in the heart of the lull if you believe in it. But once again we have an October cold front. Sprinkle in there are a few does that cycle in a month early every year.Who all is going to be in a tree this weekend.

October 12, 2023 at 3:57 pm #2229978I will be hunting tomorrow night if it’s not raining. And I will be out Saturday for sure.
October 12, 2023 at 6:51 pm #2229996I’ll definitely be out this weekend. Tomorrow will depend on the rain, but Saturday morning through Sunday is a no brainer. Good luck to everyone! Here’s a little motivation…

October 13, 2023 at 4:54 pm #2230212At my farm in the tower. Just needed some quiet time. In between rain squalls, dang there is a lot of movement. Mostly young deer. Granny doe out of range and a couple mid sized bucks. Much more than I expected
October 13, 2023 at 5:45 pm #2230217I think the minor is around 6. If the rain lets up, there should be a boost of activity . With the rain and wet ground, will need to be an exceptional opportunity before I shoot
