How come he doesn’t want to play for Philly? Has he publicly stated that and what was his reason? The Flyers look like a team on the rise. They’ve been bad for a couple years now and have a pretty good stock of youth piled up.

What I read this morning was young GM and the coach he didnt want to play for. Whether he actually said that remains to be seen.

who knows, he’s 19 years old, but it was obvious he had no desire to play there and told the team multiple times over the past 18 months…could be his agent in his ear that the team/prospect makeup doesn’t align with his playstyle, or maybe he just doesn’t want to live in Philly? These situations happen every year, the difference is how public Philly has been with their pushback and $hitting on the 19 year old… I think part of this was due to the marketing the Flyers did of him being at the WJC and then he leads the team to the gold medal and a few days later he’s traded away…Philly fans were thinking he was a savior…

I was at the game last night and believe me, I had a lot of time to think. If you need peace and solitude, you can always go to the Wild game when they’re getting their @sses handed to them, but the 3rd period you’ll have the place pretty much to yourself.

Anyway, it suddenly came to me. What the Wild REALLY, really need: A better power-play kill.

When you’re unable to kill off your own power plays without giving up 2 goals or more, it’s going to be tough to win. Wild coaching staff take note. You’re welcome.

Also, from the guys who watched on TV, what in the hell was that referee’s problem on the faceoffs last night? He was tossing guys from the circle left and right, the players from both sides were talking to him and pointing, and how many false starts did he whistle for do-overs? He seemed to be faking the puck drop, but I couldn’t really tell because of the angle. Some guys along the glass in the lower end were really getting on him but I couldn’t hear what they were yelling. What was going on with him?

    Is Wallstedt starting tomorrow?

If so, just wondering opinions. Seems to me there has been a lot of chatter about not bringing him up too soon. He could get ruined, etc. is it really the best idea to bring him in for his first NHL start when the team is a disaster in a lost season? Or is he just ready and it’s his time?

Ready, and you can not start Flower every game. Think he started 6 in a row now. Not to worried about his confidence. He has gotten shelled plenty in Iowa and seems to bounce back well.
He will be back in Iowa soon as Gus Bus is healthy and continuing to work on his game for next year when he is on the team full time.

Wallstedt was always going to get a few games in the NHL this season…if not as an injury callup (which he is now) but then he would have got a game or two at the end of the season when rosters can be expanded. He’ll be a full time backup or 40/60 playtime split with GusBus and the Wild starting next season and then take over the crease when he proves he can handle it…

He’s done everything that could have been asked of him in the AHL (Allstar last year and wil be again this year) his numbers this season were insanely good (leading the league) before the Iowa roster got decimated backfilling all of the Wild injuries…

He’s ready to be slow played in the NHL for awhile before ultimately taking over the crease for the Wild for hopefully the next decade…

He’ll most likely get the start in Dallas tomorrow, get ready for the Great Wall of St Paul era!

Id rather have WALLstedt in net a game or two over McIntyre. Wallstedt will be fine. Remember he played the Stars in preseason with essentially a full NHL roster for them and won. I like his chances if for nothing else to spark guys into waking up, but we have just so many guys out its tough.

Elliot Friedmann reporting that Cutter Gauthier relationship with Flyers turned sour last season when they refused to sign him so they could avoid a salary cap overage charge that would have impacted this season…so there it is…

PWHL Topic – Did you see they have a rule called “Jailbreak” (that might just be a nickname they gave it vs official name) where if you score a short handed goal it nullifies whatever Powerplay the other team had left? The NHL should adopt this one!

That should create even more excitement/chances. I think it would open it up to having more skilled players on the PK.

Connor McDavid ripping into the Offsides goal review process last night post game…his suggestion was to limit the review time to 60 seconds, if its not a completely obvious offsides (which was why the review rule was put into place) then its likely not something that effected the play at all anyways…kinda makes me wonder how much (if at all) online gambling is putting pressure on all of these reviews in sports?

Lets enjoy the ride and good luck to the young man. Stay out of the box and decline any powerplays.

The solution is that a team can only challenge offside by raising a challenge flag and this must be done BEFORE the puck comes out of the zone and before play is stopped because of a goal scored. There is no ability to initiate a challenge for offside after a goal is scored or after the puck exits the zone.

This would eliminate the team’s video review propellerheads from having several minutes to micro-dissect every frame of video after a goal to determine if the play was offside by 1.2 nanometers. The bench coaches would have to turn on the offside challenge signal as soon as it occurred so it would have to be an obvious offside.

Grouse, they would never allow challenges to be initiated while play is still going on. That just doesnt work for a multitude of reasons. No other sport which employs reviews does that.

That would be a wise idea given the recent woes for MN on special teams, especially against Dallas.

They need to do something to change the offsides review, it’s absolutely awful.

Every sport is different. Turing on the offside challenge light would not stop play, it would only indicate the side intends to challenge if a goal is scored, then it goes away. If the offside was so obvious, the video review guys should have no problem hitting the challenge light during play.

The NFL puts coaches under similar time pressure, they have to challenge before the next snap. None of this BS where the video review guys get the time the team spends in the O zone PLUS several minutes of stoppage after a goal to pour over 36 angles to determine if the play might be 3.17 mm off-side.
