I think BG is just waiting it out or waiting till arb. His team is basically set at this point. He is not going to over pay now.

With Wahlstead in the pipeline he has no reason to over pay. Arbitrator can set a price for 1 year and we go with Wahlstead next year.

I beleive it’s upto Gustafsson to determine 1 or 2 years (since the Wild submitted the Arb request) and he’ll for sure choose 2 years so it walks him to Free Agency (just like Fiala did) I don’t think that’s a bad thing as it allows Wallstedt another full year in Iowa, then backing up Gus in 2 years as Flower is gone…Then he moves into the starting slot in 3 years and we need to sign a backup…Typically the arbitrator selects the $ amount right in the middle of what both sides are asking for, that’s why the Samsonov case will be telling…The Wild vs Gus $ number typically gets released 1-2 days before the case date, so it will be awhile until we know the details, I still think it gets resolved AFTER the Samsonov number is final on Sunday…
Joe, I think you have it backwards. Gus filed the request so the Wild get to choose length of term. Duhaime was only going to be a 1 year regardless because of his status, but you are right the Wild will definitely choose a 2 year deal for Gus.
I wonder how long it would take me to become a judge just for NHL arbitration cases. Sounds like a fun job.

yep, Gus filed
The Leafs goalie Samsonov got a 1 year $3.55 arbitration award, this was slightly less than midway between what both sides were asking for…It makes sense for Gus and the Wild to just pick a dollar amount half way between the two offers and get it done with…
I’m sure Gus is looking for more term just in case last year was a flash in the pan.
It will be harder for Gus to put up the same numbers this year with the roster appearing to take a set back.
I don’t think the roster will take much of a step back. I believe everyone in their division minus Winnipeg got better however.
They gained a scoring forward and loss their 4th Dman. Everything else is relatively the same.
At this point term is out of Gus’s control though… GMBG holds the cards on either a 1 or 2 year term (they’ll choose 2 years) anything past 2 years jacks up the AAV because it eats up Gus’s UFA years and the Wild can’t afford the bigger AAV, especially this season…
In arb yes.
They could still sign him however to say a three year deal.
They have 5.3 for Gus and Addy. They have room. Not a lot but enough.
Not a surprise, but Bergeron announced his retirement today.
I’m actualy a bit surprised, thought he would give it one more year with the Bruins…great great player…now it’s truly a competition for the Selke award…
Stonehands might actually have a shot now!
I think Barkov’s Selke reign is starting…
I’m surprised too – I thought if he was retiring it would have happened already and they were just waiting to do something weird with the money, like last summer. Selke trophy should be renamed the Bergeron.
Bruins are going to look a whole lot different this year. They still have elite D and goaltending and a superstar, but they now have Charlie Coyle at #1C.
Billy G out as General Manager… now referred to as Mr. President.
wouldn’t surprise me if the Bruins are in the hunt again and he’s coaxed out of retirement towards the end of the season on a cheap pro-rated contract…
Jake Middleton just did a Worst Seats in the House podcast with Russo and Smith, what a beauty!
Does @mahtofire14 still work with his wife? If so you gotta ask how he ended up in bed with the Spurgeons for their anniversary Instagram post.
I’m not sure she still works on our floor. Wondering if the new contract made her feel like maybe she didn’t need to work anymore! I know she’s good friends with Spurgeon’s wife and they are at their house all the time so I’m not surprised.
Arizona Coyotes draft pick and now former Golden Gopher Logan Cooley has changed his mind about returning to Minnesota next season and signed a 3 year entry level deal.
Lots of rumors that Boston is trying to get either McTavish or Zegras from Anaheim…as of right now an offer sheet is out of the question because Boston doesn’t have a 1st round draft pick..They’ve also shown interest in Scheiffle
most likely just mid-summer clikcbait, but fun anyways…
Marco looks like he’s added some bulk this offseason…

Thanks for sharing that podcast, he is really entertaining
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not arguing for lower Pro Athlete salaries, but it puts it a bit more in perspective when you see just how much $ the Owners make… last I checked, nobody is paying $ to watch Leopold skate… I have no hard feelings when they hold out for more $
An NHL Agent posted this:
“The average NHL franchise value has risen from $180M (2000) to approx $1B today. That’s a 550% appreciation. Over the same period (2000 to 2023), the average league salary has appreciated about 105%. The NHL calls the players “partners””
