But that is exactly what their mantra has been. Again going by someone’s future rankings does little to the overall point.

The point he made was that they are terrible at drafting in the first round which is not true in recent years. Like I said we will see how they pan out, but every expert says they have done a very good job with their picks in the first round.

Ok. Now we are just going in circles.

You may be, but I am not. That is what I have said from the beginning.

Just for the record on their prospect pool it’s mostly Scott Wheeler from the Athletic that leading the charge praising the Wild prospect pool – he’s the one who had them at number 1 last year.

He’s also a crackhead. His final ranking for the 2020 draft had the 2 best players at 7 (Stutzle) and 19 (Sanderson)

Edit to add: Brock Faber was not in his Top 100 rotflol

Who would you say is better Faber? That is the only other person that even remotely has a chance to be their best performer right now.

Easily Eriksson Ek has been better, like not even close.

Kaprizov and Zuccy probably too – we’re just not watching them with Rookie Eyes. Rossi has been more consistent but they’ve both made plays and produced at their best in a way that Rossi hasn’t. We have absolutely zero expectations for Rossi coming into this year so we see every single good play this year as a highlight reel awesome. We (rightfully so) have high expectations for 97 and 36 that they’re not playing up to so we in turn think they’re awful.

Again I’m super happy with Rossi, the fact that he’s an obvious top 6 forward is a massive jump in his development from last year and great for the organization. I think we were all pretty nervous where he’d be coming into this year so we’re still in the honeymoon phase with him.

The difference with those players is PowerPlay time/production, Ek’s been mostly invisible 5-5 and hasn’t helped improve Boldy or Jojo’s terrible starts at all, we’re reminded every game by LaPanta how bad Kirill and Zuccy have been 5-5…

Not including Faber or Brodin just looking at forwards easily Eriksson Ek has been better, like not even close.

Yeah, I should have included Ek because he has been pretty dang good and I would agree he is likely their best forward. His FO % is so much better now and he has been producing on the PP and we can always count on him on the PK, but as we all know that has been terrible.

    Doh k.

Show me where I said otherwise then? I have said countless times that we will see how they develop but to discount what the experts think is foolish Joe even provided their stats.

To say they nailed the draft when they have yet to play a game is foolish.

In a hilarious turn of events the athletic just published articles on which NHL teams have drafted the best/worst from 2007 to 2018. The Wild were ranked 11th.

    The reason they didn’t include 2019 – 2023 drafts…

We’ll be analyzing data from 2007-2018. The 2019 to 2023 drafts won’t be included in our main data set because it’s too early to fully judge those results … It wouldn’t be right to statistically judge those picks this early.

For their families sake I agree, and I doubt it is true.

But it would be pretty dam wild and at least a little bit funny if it is true

I don’t know, before the draft that top 10 was somewhat interchangeable in the 3-10 slotting, who would have predicted a kid who played only 1 year of German Sr league hockey, known powerhouse league ) and didn’t score in his WJC tourney before the draft would turn out to be the best of the bunch after 3+ years?
Wheeler did do a story this summer on how he got the 2 Ottawa picks wrong and explained why, so maybe a crackhead with a conscience?

For the ‘what has Dean done’ crowd:

Dean has the 21st best points percentage among NHL coaches all time.

He is 8th among active coaches.

And yes I know he’s been very bad in the playoffs.

so what do you attribute his terrible playoff record too? (AHL & NHL) He can’t adjust quick enough to matchups in a 7 game series? He’s too predictable? or is it just dumb luck that he gets players to coach (in different organizations) who can’t adjust their game to playoff hockey?

    Serious question…

I really don’t know, and I’m not advocating for Dean. Just posting some stats for perspective.

2021 was OK, I thought it was pretty dumb they played Kyle Rau and sat Parise at the time. Still do. Vegas was the better team that year, but they played them well.
2022 and 2023 were both the same story. Lost to teams that were pretty much equal, easily beatable. Both series had goalie drama/BS and the Wild going up 2-1 and then s-ing the bed, looking worse each game. Maybe a pattern there that you could blame on the coach, idk?

Lol maybe a bit of hyperbole there, but in general Wheeler is really inaccurate compared to other NHL writer scouts. Mainly comparing him to his colleague Corey Pronman it’s not even close. What Wheeler does that’s cool is write a lot of behind the scenes articles that brings a human element to these prospects and I do like his writing. Just his rankings and evaluations that I don’t trust at all, at least in comparison to the other big names.

No reports on if he was actually changing Bedard’s diapers but the rumors are that he took the ‘father figure’ role a bit too literally…

Nick Foligno’s like “is $4aav worth having to fight every player that yells out to Bedard Who’s your Daddy?”

Marchand and Tkachuk are writing zingers down in their notebooks ready for their next Chicago game….

Is that something that really needs to be investigated? Like it’s a scumbag move yeah, and the team should definitely give him the boot, but there’s no legal issues or anything like that is there? I mean no one complained when Gordie Howe was doing it 40+ years ago

I guess he could have taken less to stick up for a guy like Marchand who runs his mouth and does cheap stuff all the time.

Sounds like a good gig to me.

Both have just been fired. Kinda sucks. I liked Deano.
