John Klingberg put on a defensive clinic last night in Toronto’s loss…he makes Addison look like Scott Stevens…

Wild have already had enough bad goaltending nights to last the rest of the season and their token playoff round. Is anyone really surprised about Jack Campbell being bad again?? I mean the man puts his cat on a leash and takes it for walks… in public.

Lol Klingberg is 100% in beer league mode. Guy has zero care to even pretend like he’s defending.

if you watch the game replay from last night this is 100% accurate….not sure how the Leafs let him back on the ice…

at what point do McJesus and King Leon say enough of this no goalie noise, i’m hitting UFA status when able to, there’s no future here in Edmonton…

I’ve wondered about that as well. Granted, McDavid isn’t a UFA until 26-27 season, so he won’t be hitting the exits anytime soon as a UFA.

I’d think outright trading either of those guys would be virtually impossible outside of a huge salary swap deal that would involve another big money name going Edmonton’s way. I think McDavid is on like a 12 million cap hit (yikes) and Leon is a 8.5 million hit.

And of course, most of the big-money contracts also include a NTC, NMC, etc and considering the situation in Edmonton, what big-name player is going to volunteer to waive a NTC/NMC to be shipped off to the tropical paradise of low taxes that IS Edmonton?

As a UFA there’s kind of a 2 part question. Which teams would have anything like the necessary cap space to sign a McD AND of those teams, which would McD even consider joining if he’s in “win now” mode? Man, that narrows it down a little…

I mean, it’s hardly likely he’d sign with an Arizona even if they could afford to pay what he wants. Unless as a UFA, either player would be willing to take a huge salary haircut just to jump on board with a contender team?

BTW, you stat heads out there, what are some examples in the salary cap era where a highly paid player went out and signed for really low/entry-level money just to get on board with a cup contender team? I know there have been some “team friendly” deals given to stay in place on a contending team, but what about guys who have jumped ship and gone from big money to minimum wage?

Interesting thought of a McDavid or Leon hitting the eject button, but how possible would it be to actually have it happen?

All I know is I would want nothing to do with Draisatle. He is a heckuva player but a total douchenozzle. Seeing his post game interviews you can see the kind of guy he is. Not one I would want on my team when the team is so close.

I don’t know, the team situation can change things, everybody said Eichel was a complete d-bag in Buffalo, and he’s been mostly a perfect soldier in Vegas of all places…

I don’t know of any “discount” big money player deals…maybe Patrice Bergeron & David Krecji last year, but that ended up biting Boston in the a$$ capwise the next season with them blowing through all of their performance bonuses…

The NHLPA doesn’t want sweatheart deals/hometown discounts because it ultimately weakens player bargaining power for everybody…

and if McJesus and King Leon really intend on leaving Edmonton, the Oilers will trade them earlier than later to get the expected haul vs all the final year drama and losing them for nothing as UFA’s…King Leon will be the first domino to fall as he’s elidgible for an extension starting January 1st…You’d think the Oilers would have a contract drawn up already, so he’ll either sign it right away or he won’t and the speculation begins…with the dollar amounts expected for both, you’d think the tax free US states will have an edge…although McDavid will more than make up for it with endorsements/publicity in a major market like New York…Leon has the personality of a brick wall so I don’t think the major endorsement $ level is there for him imo….

Mark Giordano signing for 2x900k in Toronto when he could have made 4x that elsewhere. Like Joe said the PA pretty much doesn’t let that stuff happen, and there’s no chance they let it happen with the top players in the league. If McDavid takes 15m aav that will be called a team friendly deal. In the miniscule chance he hits the market, every single team in the league will go after him – they will all move whatever players necessary to make room for him. Just look what Vegas did taking on Eichel’s $10m and that was mid-season while they were already over the cap.

Their “performance bonuses” were for like 10 games played lol it didn’t bite them in the ass they knew exactly what they were doing… kicking the cap hit can to next season. That’s what the veteran bonus contracts almost always are.

Here’s a stat: Leon on McJesus have 50 and 53 points in the last 2 playoffs for a 2 player total of 103 points. The entire Wild team (25 players) has 79 points in those 2 playoffs. The top individual scorer… Ryan Hartman with 10. coffee

Yeah, Krecji’s making the playoffs bonus through me off, I thought they both had it…

Giordano is a fraction of the player he was, didn’t Calgary basically pay Seattle to take him in the xpac draft as he was a cap anchor?

No one paid Seattle a penny in the xpac draft lol after all the damage VGK did

    Jordie Benn
    Ryan Reaves
    Zach Bogosian

If I see one more guy make a pass at the offensive blueline that gets turned over my remote is going through my 70 inch TV. Nothing I hate more than those passes even when they work.

I’ll say. They just said the shots are 15-1 in favor of MN in the second period now.

Unbelievable how young he is and what he’s being asked to do.
