yeah, all of our skilled guys looked rusty last night, pretty common early in the season, they’ll get their hands back quickly…

My subscriber gave me NHL Center Ice as a loyalty package this season so I have a feeling I’ll be spending a lot of hours watching all the other teams this winter.

make sure to check on the games around 8:30pm and 9:30pm to catch the games that go to Overtime, that’s fun hockey to watch!

Yes. I still think they should play 3 on 2 if there’s a penalty in OT.

    I don’t think the players would even want that…too much skating…gaurenteed goal….

most if not all of the NHL players want to have a 10 minute 3-3 OT and remove the shootout, the league keeps pushing back because in their mind the shootout gaurentees a quicker end of the game for TV purposes…in the event the game doesn’t end after a 10 minute 3-3 OT, then what do you do?

End in a tie? NBA doesnt use freethrows to determine a winner so a shootout in hockey makes no sense either.

Not really sure why there is a stipulation that you can’t play with only 2 players in OT if you receive a penalty. You get to skate at even-strength instead, which is technically 3 players. The issue with 4 on 3 in OT is that once the penalty expires, its then 4 on 4 until there’s a whistle. Which in OT, there is usually less whistles because teams are trying to maintain possession of the puck at all costs.

C’mon Bettman. Its time to update the OT rules here. You start with 3, and if you receive a penalty, you lose a player, just like you normally would. If you take a second penalty, you lose another. Then you’re down to ONE.

And if you get another one you are down to just your goalie LOL

yeah, I guess the NHL just didn’t want ties anymore, people go to a game and want to see a winner decided? I think we’ll see the 10 minute 3-3 OT in the next few years…Do they currently take commercial breaks in OT (I never paid attention) that might cause an issue with a 10 minute OT…

it’s all about the benjamins baby $$ and ensuring the programmed TV scheduling afterwards staying on track…that could be solved by eating into the post-game show timeslot…

My point being, it can get complicated with the non-hockey related aspects of extending a televised NHL game…oh I forgot a hockey aspect that gets effected are 5 more minutes for Players to accumate regular season stats, so 5 more minutes for players to get closer to reaching contract bonuses and what about regular season point records? Imagine what Gretzky could have done with an additional 5 minnutes of game time vs OT’s ending after 5 minutes (Yes I realize todays 3-3 impacts old records vs 5-5 OTs of the olden days)

I think they should go 1v1 then! That would be entertaining!!

careful what you wish for lol I have no idea where that ends up, probably even contradict myself a few times

Not #4 but in the top 10 and on the current topic. Get rid of the rule that if you pull the goalie in OT and lose then you don’t get the loser point. Would love to see a team pull their goalie in OT, Federov has been doing it in the KHL for years and has a winning record with it.

But really just get rid of the loser point all together, tie games in the 3rd period are a snooze fest with both teams clinging on for OT.

Do they currently take commercial breaks in OT (I never paid attention) that might cause an issue with a 10 minute OT…

No, not even in the playoffs with 20 minute OT periods

Are you sure? Don’t they scrape ice and switch sides after 10 minutes? again never paid much attention…actually I think I do now remember they stay with the game and talk to the guy in between the benches, who’s usually chatting with players?

2 points for Danila Yurov today playing on the top line, also nice to see Marat Khusnutdinov getting 16+ minutes of ice time in his first game with Sochi yesterday…

yeah, I’d really like to know what the issue was with his SKA team and why he wasn’t playing? especially since he was like thier MVP last year.. The Sochi team has been making alot of moves lately gearing up for a Gugarin Cup run…maybe it was a SKA salary cutting move and that’s why there was a new contract he signed with Sochi? but the SKA franchise is like the NY Yankees of the KHL…that league is so strange, just a black hole of information…everything looks positive now though so that’s good

    Lol wouldn’t that be something.

In all seriousness, on the shoot out subject, I am not sure what to do. You can’t end the game in a tie, and you can’t just keep playing OT until someone wins with an 82 game schedule.

Ya but those are non-contact sports. Bodies don’t take as much physical abuse.

NFL plays one 10 minute OT and then quits.

I think its just the TV timeslot and grandfathered contract point incentives with an additional 5 minutes of OT gametime causing the road blocks…I think the TV Timeslot issue can be solved IF there’s always a postgame show that can limit itself based on how much time is left before the next scheduled program…but what if there isn’t a post show? The contract incentives can have HUGE future cap ramifications, do you then see coaches getting called from the GM to NOT play Player X because he has a 19 goals and has a $500k incentive if he hits 20 goals that would then reduce next years cap? (Last year’s Boston Bruins are the perfect example of met incentives effecting next years cap) The Players Association would then freak out… so you can see it gets complicated…

Who doesn’t want to see Reavo and Maroon dangle in 3 on 3. Extend to 10 minutes and I bet there would be less ties.
    Then call it a tie.
