saw this on a hockey trade rumor website so take it for what its worth, but it said GMBG is interested in adding Martin Necas from the Hurricanes… He’s still an RFA with arbitration rights and Carolina has ALOT of players to decide to sign this offseason and Necas could be a cap casualty…The Wild would want confirmation he’d sign long term with them before making a trade…He’s probably in the $7aav range…
He’s 6’2″ can play center or wing and is a RH shot…He’s the type of player who likely hasn’t hit his ceiling yet buried on a great top 6 in Carolina, I’d be all for it…
I saw a few more stories on this trading for Necas idea, one speculated a Rossi and Spurgeon (to make the capspace work) for Necas trade… This would then allow the Wild to sign Necas to a $7 x 8 contract extension. Spurgeon’s full NMC changes to a limited NMC starting next season (15 team no trade list) I doubt Carolina would be on that list… Obviously this will leave a hole in the Wild’s top 4 defenseman, it would likely force them to draft a D with pick #13, maybe they sign a cheap veteran UFA as a 1 year stopgap and then look for a better option after next season when $13 million in buyout cap opens up? This would help Carolina in that Rossi still has 1 year left on his ELC and Spurgeon’s $7.5 x 3 would be more doable for a solid veteran D vs re-signing somebody like Brady Skjei for 7-8 years…
This would give the Wild a potential Yurov – Necas – Ohgren/Heidt 2nd line of the future to help with secondary scoring…Of course the Wild won’t be the only team interested in Necas, so we’ll see what happens…
Necas would check an awful lot of boxes for the Wild…
