Lou Nanne was on KFAN last night and said he thinks GusBUs gets traded this offseason and Flower will come back and split time with Wallstedt next season…

it looks like Cam Talbot is probably the best available goalie in Free Agency this summer so GusBus will likely get some interest…

I dont either. Id bring Flower and Gus back and let Wallstedt marinate a year. We all know there will be injuries so he will get called up.

Given Fluery’s relationship with Billy I would not be surprised to see Fluery get a couple more years in the crease.

I think he would just do a 1 year deal

Putting Freddy on the ice is a clear example of tanking on purpose… sweet sweeping pokecheck on the pk that missed by 3 feet…

Man did Torts ever F up that Flyers team… All of those mind games he plays for his ego and the team collapses at the end of the season… He needs to accept a huge chunk of the blame for their collapse…

Does it really matter who is the “starter” next year.
You are not signing either long term.

If Wallstedt is not what everyone thinks they are probably screwed either way.

I dont think it matters…swapping Jesper for Gus gives the Wild an extra $2.5 in capspace though…

Faber needs to do what Makar did on that goal. He scores alot of his goals on that same play of walking across the blueline allowing traffic to build in front of the goalie and just picking a corner with a snapshot.. Faber has that in his game, just needs to do it more…

Im confident Wallstedt will be as advertised, he is just too sound in his mechanics, I just think let him stay in Iowa another year. Between Gus and Flower doesnt matter who the #1 is.

Kraken won, so that helps the wild for draft position. No post season for sure now after that loss, but my goodness Mackinnon is just next level speed wise. I cannot believe how he made Brodin look silly. That is really something.

If the Wild beat the Sharks and then Kraken last game of the season it will screw up their draft position and they will be picking in the mid teens…Devils shutting down Hughes for the season hurts (that team is a HUGE disappointment this season) and the Sabres and Flyers have completely fallen apart the past week…

I think Kirill can sniff 50 goals now and could explode on the Sharks…

I’m sure it has nothing, nothing at all, to do with their franchise goalie being charged with sexual assault half way through the season. Hart’s last game was Jan 20 at which point the Flyers were 25-15-6 (.609 p% – 11th) with a .904 team save percentage (10th). Since that date they are 11-17-5 (.409 p% – 27th) with a .848 (!!!) team save percentage (LAST by a mile). I get it though, Torts is the low hanging fruit. Might actually be that goaltending is important.

Which brings me to Flower and Gus. It feels like Flower has been better, but their number are about even this season as a whole. Both started bad > then both ok when Hynes started > then Gus got hot > then Gus got hurt > Flower stayed OK > Gus came back and was awful > Flower got hot in the 2nd half > Gus hot and cold, more cold > Flower became the #1 but then got shelled in important games down the stretch > season over. It feels like Flower was better, but over 82 games the numbers are about even… both were below average 1B level goaltenders this year.

The big question to me is which one has the better shot to be better next year… 26 year old Gus, or 40 year old Flower? This team is nowhere near good enough to win with below average goaltending. If they had last year’s goaltending this year, they’d be in the playoffs. If they get this year’s goaltending next year, they’re likely ending in a similar spot.

I agree. Their starting goalie (Ersson) since the absence of Hart is also a rookie. .848 save percentage is atrocious for any level of hockey. He might bear some of the blame but he will be the coach there again next season.

Their last 5 games are against Montreal, Chicago, Buffalo, Columbus, and Montreal. All terrible teams not even in the playoff hunt and they have given up 4, 5, 4, 6, and 9 goals in those games, respectively.

of course goaltending will impact wins/losses, and yes, the Flyers lost 4 in a row after Hart left the team, but they also then won 4 in a row after that streak…They then played almost .500 hockey for about 5 weeks (pretty typical for a young team) and then Torts started to do Tort things like bench their captain and sit other guys, call out the team publicly, etc and they have since lost 8 in a row and are now 2 points OUT of the Wild card spot…Tort’s mind games backfired at the most critical time of the season…

Giving up 15 goals in the past 2 games will certainty hurt those goalie stats…

.848 save percentage over 33 games isn’t just a meh cold streak – it’s horrendous goaltending, impossible to win with that. The next closest is the Yotes at 0.880 and there’s 7 other teams between .880 and .890. .880-.890 is bad goaltending, .848 is like they had a shooter tutor in there

I find it ironic how fans constantly call for struggling players on their team to get a night off in the press box. But then when another team’s head coach does exactly that, it’s playing mind games and caused their season to implode.

you seriously don’t think Tort’s plays mind games with his players vs the typical coach interaction with struggling players? good lord…

I think he does. He has a very unique style of coaching over his career and his animation is obvious while on the bench and during press conferences. There’s no denying that.

What I am of the opinion of is that goaltending is the primary issue that has caused their decline this season (and the stats prove it). Not his coaching. And for that reason, he will be their coach again next season. He does bear some fault for their problems, just not the primary fault.

again, i’m not saying their goaltending isnt an issue, i’m just saying when he turned up the dial on his “Tort Antics” (mid-March) they’ve played terrible and while giving up too many goals, they also aren’t scoring very many…

Just think the narrative of it being all his fault is really funny. That team had no business being anywhere near playoffs this year. And losing their starting goalie is the obvious reason they’re not in the playoffs.

I think Torts is famous for doing weird sh!t so if you want to call that mind games go ahead. I assume you mean scratching Couturier? How many vets have you called for to be scratched this year? I find Torts very entertaining personally. I’ve always said I’d never want him to coach my team but he consistently gets teams with very little talent to overachieve their way into the playoff bubble. Flyers are the perfect example this year… they had a fire sale the last couple years and were predicted bottom 5 coming into the season.

That game in Tampa was epic Torts. I posted a video of it earlier in this thread. They honored the 2004 Lightning Stanley Cup while he was the coach and then he went off the rails and was ejected. Thanks for coaching us to the Stanley Cup…now you’re ejected John. rotflol

Yeah Torts is kind a love him or hate him type of guy. His luster tends to wear off after a while.
