Yeah that’s what I’m waiting for him to do in the playoffs. All the Leafs stars just seem to wait for each other to do it in the playoffs. Matthews has been getting better the last couple years but still not close to the point where watching him is like holy sh!t that dude’s not gonna let his team lose.

Can’t argue he’s been great in the regular season though. I think slightly out pacing Ovi in goals at the same age?? Ovi’s been able to do it consistently for 15+ years though

Last I looked a week ago the Leafs weren’t even in the top 3 in their division and they were only 4 points ahead of the team in 9th.

I looked last night (scoreboard watching, I know) and they have moved to the 3 hole in the Atlantic.

LOL Gim look at points percentage and they’ve been in the 3-hole for weeks since late December

You’re probably right based on points percentage. The NHL app I have places teams based on points though, not points percentage.

I think a big part of Toronto’s playoff problems (in the Mathews/Marner years) is that they are built as a great regular season team, but not built for the playoffs and their stars haven’t adapted their games yet…all that open space Mathews, Marner & Nylander score pretty goals from in the regular season is taken away in the playoffs…

I point to how Ovi changed his game to finally have playoff success…

This is something that Boldy is going to have to learn as well….

Mathews chronic wrist injuries over the years worries me about his longevity, but I think he’s on a similar pace Ovi was at his age, but as you said, can he do it for 15+ years? (just unreal, especially for the style of game Ovi plays)…

I’m so psyched we finally get to see him play in the Red, White and Blue soon….

This is a big part of why I want them to make the playoffs this year. See if Boldy can finally show up. Kirill and Gus both have something to prove in the playoffs. Get Faber and Rossi a taste of the playoffs in significant roles. If they could put something together and win a round or at least play the #1 seed to 7 games, that does more for this team’s development than moving up 10 spots in the draft.

Heck yeah T let’s goooo! I do think most of the leafs problems have been goaltending or defense just like the oilers.

Ha I know you love it, like Basseyes loves Boldy

    And Grouse loves Gerin Gurin.

Boldy is very talented, just don’t think he’s got much upstairs. When he’s on, holy help me he’s good. When he’s not, bah-root-al.

Willy Garyin is like an older brother you’re not sure has the teams long term best interests in mind.

This is not a play off team. Hynes is moving prices around and is actually nice to see what players do with other players. Liking what Rossi has brought this year.

Bernnie-tard is wickedly talented. But d@mnation he likes to watch the puck. Will be interesting to see what wild fans do in 7 years and what their thoughts on him as he’s skating around with the Stanley Cup. And the wild are trying to figure out how to still get past the first round with a deep prospect pool, and still no secondary scoring.

The section tournaments for boys HS have started this week. I was just checking some scores from last night…

Top ranked Minnetonka beat Chaska 8-0. The shots were 78-6. lmao
How is that even possible? 78 shots in a hockey game? That goalie made 70 saves! shock

My brother had over 100 shots against him in Bantams against Bloomington Jefferson and they scored 9.

2 prospective markets ready for a new team and now 2 current markets sounding the alarm bells. You gotta love the romance of a small market Canadian team but what’s going down in Winnipeg is the cautionary tale. The city and team got hammered by covid and there’s just not a big enough corporate or population base to support them when times are tough. Imagine if the team were rebuilding like everyone was expecting them to do… This is all happening to a team that’s made playoffs 5 of the last 6 years and in the presidents trophy race most of this season.

Man that would suck if they lose the Jets again!

I was reading about that this morning too and when watching the game I was surprised by how many empty seats. I figured it was like Gopher games of the past where majority were corporate owned and no one actually went, but man this is concerning. THey have a very good team and if they cannot fill that small arena that is really sad.
You are right about the whole Covid thing. Canada handled it far worse than the US, which we still failed. In Canada you couldnt even go from one Province to the next. A guy working at the resort we were at this past year is from BC, but works in ONtario. He couldnt go home and hadnt seen his new grandkids that were born yet.

Jets are going to leave again…it solves the current problem of 3 major US Markets (Houston, Salt Lake City, Atlanta) wanting NHL teams and the NHL only wanting to add 2 expansion teams max…

The NHL (and all pro sports in general) couldn’t care less about the fans/city losing their team, they just want the $$

    No doubt.

so 7 games until March 8th trade deadline (at Edmonton, at Seattle, home vs Carolina, at Nashville, at St Louis, home vs Sharks, at Arizona)

Do you think GMBG’s buy/sell decision will be based on how the Wild plays or how the standings look on March 7th? My point being, if the Wild plays well in those 7 games but doesn’t make up any of the playoff gap, does he sell?

Did we ever find out if LTIR space can be used to broker deals for other teams? I kinda think it can’t?

I read a post that said due to his July 17th birthdate, he would fall under the same ELC rules Kaprizov signed, so a 2 year deal and burning the 1st year of it if he plays yet this season…at least we would get 1 full season before making an RFA decision on him…

    Do you have the post?

Somewhere on Twitter (a Wild fan account) but I found this:

The length of the Entry Level contract is outlined in the CBA Section 9.1b:

    Signing Age* Years of ELC

    18-21 3 Years
    22-23 2 Years
    24 1 Year
25+ No Limit & Not-Entry Level if drafted from North America
25-27** 1 Year if drafted from Europe

*Signing Age is age on September 15 of calendar year in which first contract is signed, regardless of actual age when contract signed.

**Players who played in Europe at the time they were drafted and sign their first NHL contract at ages 25-27 sign a 1 year Entry Level Deal. If the European Player has not signed a contract by age 28, he is not subject to an Entry Level Contract

Marat turns 22 on July 17th….

Mason Shaw was on the latest Wild on 7th, one interesting thing he talked about was that his first 2 ACL surgeries the Surgeons used tendons from his hamstring to make new ACL tendons and both of those obviously failed. Since then doctors have learned that the tendon from that area isn’t strong enough and they now use the Patela tendon for all ACL injury repairs. He said he can feel the difference between the 4 surgeries…

just unreal medical technology and expertise vs so many years ago with Vikings Terry Allen…
