Well they should have a better CBA…if it wasn’t for the rich Leo we may not even have a team.

Exactly that just sounds like a bada$s commissioner and a dogsh!t players union.

And Allan Walsh may be an NHL Agent but I’m pretty sure he’s also a crackhead. He’s using cooked numbers by going pre-salary cap when most contracts weren’t even public. The original cap was like $40M which doubled in about 15 years and then flattened after Covid.

Sounds like Gus is nearing a multi-year deal. Would be nice to avoid arbitration just to get things done.

    So does multi-year mean 2 or 5? I’m guessing 2x$3.5

Goalie contacts are so weird, especially this one. I have no idea if I want them to sign him for long term or just 1 year.

3x$3.75m and I have no idea how to feel about that. Kind of in the middle ground between starter pay and backup pay. If last year is his new normal then it’s an absolute steal, best goalie contract in the league. If he reverts to Ottawa level then it’s a killer. Wild brass must be believers to give him 3 years.

Even when wallstedt is ready they’ll need a competent 2nd goalie and I have faith Gus can be that. Wallstedt won’t be the starter for 2 years anyway I’d guess if he pans out.

100% agree. I thought all the talk about wallstedt affecting Gus’s contract was silly and incredibly shortsighted.

Yep, totally agree with you there. NOw we are on Addison watch. I wouldnt think much over $1M for him though.

It’s wild to me that Addison will get less than Duhaime. Addy has more career points in way less games (while playing D!!!) and plays a premium position, RHD. Duhaime’s contact even walks him straight to UFA. From strictly a numbers aspect it makes no sense other than Addison has no arb leverage.

Curious to see if they make a move to open a little more cap breathing room. Maybe see Jonny Merrill waived and sent to Iowa or a Goose trade. Watch for that if Hunt, O’Rourke, Lambos, etc. has a good camp and gets a shot to start the season.

I think there will be a move done yet before the season but I just dont see how Addison gets a big payday like $2M or so. One we dont have the money and Two he doesnt have leverage like you said.

I’m fine with Gus contract. I don’t think it’s a killer if he doesn’t perform as Wallstedt will be cheap at the time. Should have 1 2 combo for three years and it still a traceable contract if you want to move him.
I always thought a three year contract was very possible in this situation.

I just saw the Gus news, I’m surprised, but kinda not surprised its a 3 year deal. If anything it removes the “must be starting in 2 years pressure” off Wallstedt…

if Gus takes off and becomes a surething #1 goalie, GMBG has a nice trade chip when Wallstedt is ready (if he develops properly into a future star) its a good problem to have.

In terms of the $3.75aav, that’s a bargain for getting 1 of his UFA years (its why I thought a 3 year deal wouldn’t work as the UFA year would likely raise the aav to a point the Wild couldn’t afford this season) The arbitrator was likely to grant $3.5+ anyways…

Lastly regarding Addy, I dont think he has ANY leverage/say in what he’s offered…he either accepts it or holds out…

With our cap so tight now, the minuscule $400k savings trading away Merrill and replacing him with someone on a league minimum salary has gotta look awfully tempting for GMBG…

I think the same situation will help Addison stay on the team with his likely $785k aav… no way we could get a better bang for the buck…

    * I just read through the last page of posts, looks like we’re thinking the samething….
Merrill will be the guy, Goose already told GMBG he’s not lifting his NTC…

You werent the only one. I kinda thought they should have done more to try and keep him, but in hindsight it seems like the right decision was made.

Swayman awarded 3.5M is 3.75M for Gus a bit of an overpay? I guess a 3 year term is better than possibly 2.

You could make the argument for that but it’s definitely in the ballpark and buying that one UFA season cost a bit extra AAV. The two have pretty similar career numbers with Swayman a bit longer track record but Gus being better in his peak season.

He is important for sure, but comparables at his age the contracts do NOT age well at all. Lucic is a perfect example.

The Oilers hiring McDavid’s agent as CEO/President is so awesome. I expect Leipold to hire Theofanous when Kaprizov needs his new deal jester

Late to the party, but glad to see Gus is locked in for 3 years. 3rd year is critical to me, glad we got that done!

Kyle Dubas pushes his chips in for a final couple of cup runs for the Crosby/Malkin era… heck of a trade by him…

Will be interesting to see how 2 Alpha dogs on the same blueline works…
