WTH? I missed the contest?

Now GMBG’s next worry is how to sign Fiala longer term next year…

Looking at capfriendly (it’s updated already with Kaprizov’s contract) He could potentially let Goligoski and his $5 aav walk after 1 year if he doesn’t pan out or take the reported low 1 year extension and replace him with Addison, Rask’s $4 is finally off the books, Merrel, Benn and Bgujstad will be gone making another $2.5 million available.. Sturm, Greenway and Kaapo will need new bridge deals, my guess is that they trade Greenway (not because they don’t want him, but as a casualty of the Parise/Suter buyout cap crunch) the others likely won’t warrant significant raises.

So there’s money there for Fiala if GMBG wants to extend him in the $7-$8aav range…

Rumor on twitter is KK is reporting to camp tomorrow when it opens. He must’ve gotten the right vaccine on his way over. Apparently doesn’t need to quarantine either. Saying he’ll be on the ice.

for sure…My guess is that he would have just picked the 2 year arbitration deal this summer if he absolutely wanted out of MN, at worst we have him for one more year after this season in the $5-$7 arbitration range, but deep down Fiala knows he has to prove it again this year to warrant a long term deal here or anywhere, he’s been good but super inconsistent over his career…The idea that he holds a grudge with the Wild over Kirill getting more $ is bs, it’s a business and the players know it, there will always be guys getting paid more every year…Dumba’s $6, Talbot’s $3.6 and Kulikov’s $2.25 come off the books in 2 years as well with likely rookie contract replacements ready and waiting…

The Wild could do a sign and trade too….

I think Fiala gets signed and Greenway is a casualty depending on what happens this season. He showed a great progression but if he doesn’t up that level this year he’s gone. He has promise but last year was the only year he showed it in more consistency. I still have a feeling that Dumba gets traded.

I just don’t get the Greenway love. Yeah he was better last season but you can find guys that score 6 goals and 26 assists that play much more consistently than he does. He can go in my opinion.

If he played with a chip on his shoulder all game, every game he’d be unstoppable… not alot of 6’6″ 230 lb guys who can skate and shoot like he can…GMBG challenged him last offseason to be that guy, we saw more of it last season, but he still takes 5-10 games off at times and you don’t notice him on the ice…if he figures it out and takes off this year there’s just no way we can afford him…it sucks but it is what it is the next 3 years…

Greenway has been talked to more than once about playing his physical game which is his most effective. He does for a handful of games but then seems to regress. He’s a big player who plays small most of the time. I think a change of scenery does him and the Wild a lot of good.

Agree completely. He has shown flashes of dominance and how often have the wild given up on someone before they exploded ie Burns, Leddy (lessor extent) because they gave up on them? Heck look how they threw away Alex Tuch to protect a player in Dumba!? Would you rather have Dumba or Tuch right now? Definitely Tuch.

Just this year. If it doesn’t happen he’s gone. Simple as that. Message was already sent last year.

I hope he figures it out. I would call last season the first step. But it needs to be a big jump this year. We all know he has the tools, but I think we’ve given him plenty of chances. I get the feeling (definitely not fact) from his interviews that he’s a bit lazy and immature.

We still control him as a RFA, so it will likely be on our terms where he goes…. Tuch is a good comparable in terms of he was a bit immature early on but grew into his role and how to be a pro…. Hopefully Greenway figures it out this year, either to resign or trade for some assets…

I have had high hopes for Greenway since day one. Really I was on the stake and lived by the sword and died by the sword. Last year he lived up I think but he needs to duplicate it this year.

i’m really hoping we get details of the contract process at today’s presser, they had to have had this in the works the past week or so and basically hit the “enter” button to execute everything immediately after agreement…

I have read that there is no signing bonus and the final 2 years have NTC on them with a lower AAV for the purposes of reducing impact of the players escrow. I bet those things are what took a while to figure out.
