old school guys will always be old school…it’s good for the game and if the current players don’t like it, they could have let Zegras & Milano know after the play, but they didn’t… Players will police themselves…

Agreed. I used to enjoy guys like Don Cherry, but now they irk me. You’re right those old school guys arent doing the league any favors at all. The game has changed for the better and its passed these guys by.

regarding the Olympics, I think the next month or so will dictate what happens with how Omicron takes over the world or not with how contagous it appears to be (with what appears to be much less serious sickness) so play the games with infected athletes if it takes off? I don’t see that happening…seems like the only way the games itself will work is to have all the athletes quarentine onsite for a week and then move everyone inside a sealed bubble, way too many people and moving parts to think they can do that successfully…

Anybody find any info if the NHL Network is again offering a free channel preview during the WJC tourney? I haven’t…

I guess the alternative is to add the channel for the duration of the tourney and cancel afterwards…

former 1st round pick Philip Johnasson just signed an 2 year extension with Frolunda in the Swedish Elite League, does anybody know how this factors into the Wild potentially getting a 2nd round draft pick back? I know we had a near deadline to offer him a legit contract, but how can we do that now that he resigned a multi-year deal with his team?

Does this finally close the chapter on Johnasson and we get nothing out of it?

Finally got a good answer to this, so the Wild need to offer him an acceptable ELC offer (my guess is the lowest 1st round elc they can offer per the CBA) by June 1st and Johnasson decides to take it or not, if he doesn’t, then the Wild get the #56 overall pick in the 2022 draft as compensation (more ammo for Judd in a great draft!)

So i’d guess if Philip’s new contract for Frolunda is close or more than what the Wild offer he’d probably just keep it and play at home and become a UFA for the NHL? He also should factor in the Wild’s defensive stud prospects he’d be competing with too…

Probably but never looked at it. They keep calling me like every day saying they will cut my rates in half, but I have been so busy not able to call them back or answer when they call.

CaptainMusky that’s a scam don’t call them. I was and still am getting that same call. I got online chat with AT&T/DirecTV and asked them about it. They said they only email customers with any discounts or special offers they never call customers directly.

Figured as much. I googled the phone number earlier today and it was not a DirecTV number.

hybis it?nn is a healthy scratch tonight with Jon Merrill.

I know there are Benn Bashers on this group, but I don’t see it. I really like his addition to the line up. I don’t see mistakes. I like his size and speed. I think he’s been solid. Merrill makes me much more nervous than Benn. But it seems that Merrill gers the nod before Benn. Why is it?

Beat me to it Joe. jester
Merril and Kulikov have been great together. Benn is nice 6/7D

Don’t see how this Olympic thing is going to work. 60 nhl players in protocol and counting right now.

At this point the focus should be on getting in a full NHL season. The way things are going that’s going to be a challenge all in itself.

    his speed? Seriously?

I wasn’t saying he is speedy. I was just saying his speed is enough. I don’t see him as slow. I haven’t seen him getting beaten regularly due to his speed…I guess I’d put it that way. But I do like his size, which is lacking Merril. Yes, Benn is a 6/7. So is Merrill. I’m asking why Merrill over Benn.

    Benn 6’2
    Merril 6’3

Splitting hairs. Merril has been good played most of the year. Benn filled in fine. Both will be getting some games in.

Personally I prefer the stash over the beard.

I totally stand corrected. I don’t know why, but Benn just looks like a bigger dude to me.

    And Merril nets… jester

Benn plays more standing up which I think makes him look bigger or maybe just looks the part a grizzly d man with big beard and no mask.

Merril looks like a cast member on super troopers.

Maybe it’s the cheesy caterpillar on Merrill’s upper lip that I can’t take.

This team could really use a competent power play…..

The Wild are actually at a disadvantage when on a four minute power play or a five on three because the chances of the opposing team killing it off are quite high and it’s a big momentum gain for the other team. If this team does not get it’s special teams figured out they are in for limited success in the playoffs…again…Bad loss last night to a team they should easily handle at home. Well the Panthers are pretty watered down with the covid so maybe get a W in the matinee game tomorrow. If they play.

Ya’ll realize they have 6 PP goals in the last 6 games now right? The 4 minute wasn’t great but the PP hasn’t been bad recently.

Yeah, its a bummer they didnt get something on the 4 min PP, but its been much better lately. Dean’s first 3 game losing skid. Lets stop it there.

I’m not sure i’d say any of those pp goals (other than the Ek deflected shot/pass by Zuccarello) was a result of any type of “on purpose” play though… How many of those 6 ppgs came with the PP1 unit? That’s my only issue with the Powerplay, the PP1 unit has NO IDEA what they are doing, they are just free wheeling it out there, then they get off the ice with 45-35 seconds left for the PP2 unit…
The PP2 unit at least knows what their role is and keeps it simple by throwing pucks to the net and having Foligno and others get rebounds…

For the first time in a very long time last night I saw they setup a play for Dumba to take a 1 timer from the left side boards…that should be an option for Dumba and/or Kaprizov/Fiala on the oppostie side every powerplay…yet you never see it…passing is also much too slow to get the defenders to break down at all, you look at any good powerplay unit and they make fast passes to break down the defense and open passing/shooting lanes…but we do the slow and methodical boards to the top, back to the boards, back to the top, back to the boards, down low, back to the boards, back to the top, snap shot from the blue line that gets blocked and cleared, rinse and repeat…..bleh!

What’s frustrating is that this has been an issue for like 2-3 years now and nothing has changed…GMBG needs to bring in new Powerplay coaching blood/ideas/mindset to this team, the Darby experiment has failed….
