If you can pull stats, I’d like to see Dumba’s PP points his 3rd-5th seasons in the league vs his last 6th-8th seasons…

How much has his PP usage effected his offensive stats (He used to be the PP focus early in his career, but that has been taken away the last 2-3 seasons)

17-19 were his 2 best seasons, pre-injury. 19-21 are the 2 seasons post-injury. This is powerplay minutes only. The stuff I posted earlier was 5 on 5 only.

Looks like Dumba PP-TOI is about the same, shot rate is a bit down, and his shooting percentage cratered.

I see both sides of the argument, I agree it can be intentional and thus abused when teams gets tuck in the d zone on a 2 minute shift, but I also find it comical that sometimes the refs or linesman need to mockingly triangulate where they think it actually crossed the glass near the benches…

Perhaps they adjust the rule so if the puck is shot into the netting (more in the corners vs the sides of the defensive zone) it should be a penalty?

Yeah, I dont like the automatic penalty either because sometimes its completely incidental.

Do you think that casual hockey fans like the shootouts? I know the majority of hockey fans hate them

I still get excited when the skilled guys shoot, because you just might see something special (Patrick Kane/Pavel Datsyuk/Mike Robeiro) but after that it’s just meh, they could liven it up a bit and go with International rules where you can repeat shooters after the first 3 go… I more thoroughly enjoy 3-3 now though…if they extended it to 10 minutes of 3-3, shoot outs would be very rare…

It’s so fun to see the skilled players shoot in a shoot out. It was awesome seeing Oshie go out again and again in the Soshi Olympics. I don’t really care either way but I do agree that I wish it was just points for a win or loss.

Yeah, I dont like the automatic penalty either because sometimes its pretty much always completely incidental.

They could always call a delay of game penalty if deemed intentional, and it was never an issue. They only did it to create more PP time and artificially inflate scoring. It’s all fun and games until a freaking puck over glass penalty leads to an OT game-winner in the playoffs.

Also, it robbed Jared Spurgeon of the beloved Lady Byng last year.

So his PP toi was about the same, but his PP points/60 output fell from 5.15 to 2.73? Shooting % dropped from 10.39 to 3.39
I’d say that’s were teams started taking away the 1 timer bomb…i’d be curious what else changed during those times? Parise/Staal were more effective down low the early years resulting in more Dumba assists maybe? The later years the PP focused on Fiala and others (Suter/Spergeon/Brodin) getting shots and the majority of PP1 time…

That’s where my idea of if it hits the netting, it’s likely alot more intentional vs the D accidentally chipping a breakout pass over the side glass and at that point in the zone they could more easily ice it if needed, behind the net your odds of icing it are minimal……

Yeah alotta variables there. Dumba was the primary powerplay shooter in that season he got hurt. Now they obviously have better options.

My long post earlier was completely disregarding the powerplay though. I think Dumba can still create offense at 5 on 5 but his playing style has changed big time in the last 2 seasons.

Did you see Addison fire one into the Blackhawks bench during 3 on 3 OT before Beckman scored? Players should just do more of that until they change the rule.

every now and again he winds it up in the d zone, but ends up losing it as soon as he enters the o-zone mostly because he always cuts to the middle, if he drove wide he’d actually disrupt things and we’d get chances, that’s just a mental block he has and likely drives Deano nuts!

For sure that was 100% intentional and I believe there were a few smiles on the bench afterwards…i’m sure they are coached that

3 on 3 till someone scores. Shouldn’t really last that long if they know that is the rule. No need for a shootout. Dumb way to get a point.

I agree. The shootout is like having the NBA end based on 3 point shots or free throws, heck, probably more like ending on a dunk contest.

What do you do if nobody scores after 10+ minutes? I know it’s unlikely, but what are the contingencies especially when on a national broadcast that needs to cut to their next show at a preset time…

What does the MLB and NBA do? How about college football? It’s not like this is unprecedented stuff here. Just do what they do… keep playing until there’s a winner

yeah I don’t know, i’m all for 3-3 until somebody scores, I think 99.9% of games will end inside of 10 minutes…

It’s like ending a basketball game with a dunk contest or ending a baseball game with an HR derby. It’s basically set up for sports center.

Tom Wilson Vs the Rangers tonight. Should be an interesting watch, especially now that the other goon in the league plays for the Rangers.

I think ESPN and TNT are nailing it this far. They have a huge investment but so far this is engaging and the personalities they hired are all great. Barkley tonight? This could be fun.

I miss the goon glory days. Willy Plett coming to the North Stars from the Flames I believe just to deal with Al Secord! Hired guns were in demand in those days! lol

I can’t imagine another reason than Tom Wilson for the Rangers signing Reeves.
