Not surprising because of all the playoff success they have had previously?

The Pacific Division is terrible. Either of those teams could have won. I am not going to say Im surprised they won considering their post season lack of success, but either of those teams likely gets bounced having to play a Central team.

I think it really just goes to show you can’t win playoff hockey with guys like Zadorov, Gudbrandson, and Hannifin – they obviously get worn down by the speed of a long series.

at least they are/were still playing, how’s Girard and Krug doing?

Where are Cale Makar, Adam Fox, Tony Deangelo, and Tyson Barrie?

Where do you think Zadorov Gudbrandson and Hannifin are golfing today? Poor guys just couldn’t handle 140 lb Kailer Yamamoto

I said the same thing about Montreal against Vegas last year so I’m holding judgement – especially with McJesus in the series. Pacific has been bad for 10 years but everyone was still fawning over Calgary all year. They were similar to the Wild in that half the team set career highs in production. Also seemed like the Flames had playoff level intensity most of the regular season.

    Where are Cale Makar

I was wondering the same, all the hype in round 1 when I wasn’t really watching the series, and now that I am he’s just another guy out there. Did he get banged up? Or just getting locked down?

especially with McJesus in the series.

He is really putting on a show for sure! How about the overturned Flames goal? I thought that was completely ridiculous.

Blues have shut down both Makar and Mackinnon, well until last game for Mackinnon. Impressive coaching by Chief to not let the superstars beat them.

I was just listing D-men who are all **gasp** sub-6’ers and coincidentally leading the playoffs in scoring.

Agreed. Until last night I was convinced it took a field goal wind up to overturn a goal based on “distinct kicking motion”. Coleman was 100% trying to put it in with his foot but there’s been goals that were 10x worse this season and previous seasons that didn’t get overturned.

I’m also already sick of hearing about it and seeing the review. We’re going to hear about that kick goal forever.

There was a goal allowed for Edmonton against the FLames (not sure if it was this series or regular season) that was a clear attempt to direct the puck, but not a kick. You can direct it with your skate, just not kick. That’s a headscratcher why it was overturned.

100% agree. These reviews always come down to the gray area of what exactly is a “distinct kicking motion”. It was so odd to overturn it after the precedent that’s been set, especially considering it wasn’t even challenged – the league called for the review.

Some of McDavid’s dominance in this series:

If only the Flames had some beef on the backend to slow this guy down.

It is a wonderful time to be a hockey fan. There are some absolutely amazing players to watch and we actually have one of them for once.

Quite a finish in St Louis tonight. Avalanche score with 5.8 seconds left to advance and face the Oilers.

Spurgeon and Zucc have had core muscle surgery. Apparently Zucc had a fracture in a leg too. I know they deserve to have some confidentiality with injuries but it sure would keep the fans off some of the players backs if they knew how injured there were, especially the ones playing through it.

Dang what kind of leg fracture can you play through – that sounds miserable. Seems sports hernias are getting more common in recent years too.

I see what you’re saying but I think players are more concerned with other teams targeting their injuries than keeping fans off their back. Everyone knew Dumba was injured and I don’t see fans giving him a hallpass.

so with the Conference Finals teams all set, that sets the first 28 picks of the NHL Draft order and locks in the Wild picking #24

So in the first 2 rounds, we currently have the 24th, 47th (Vancouver’s pick from the McBain trade) and 56th overall pick (compensatory pick for when we don’t offer Filip Johnasson a contract by todays deadline)…we lost our own 2nd rounder (the 57th pick) to Chicago in the Fleury trade…

I’d like to see GMBG and Judd trade up in the 1st round for a more likely impactful player (Quality over Quantity imo)…

Really doesnt sound like the Devils are going to give up pick #2. It was probably a pipedream to think we could snag that but it would be awesome to snag that beefeater wing that is projected to be #2.

There’s lots of talk that Montreal will take Slafkovsky #1 overall, if that’s the case, the next 3 projected picks are all Centers, a position the Devils absolutely DON’T need with Hughes, Hischier and Boqvist/Mercer already in the fold and likely long term fixtures moving forward…so do they trade it to get the value back or take somebody they could likely get with a later pick?

Could the Wild maybe work out a Fiala trade with Ottawa for #7, then include that and our earliest 2nd rounder (I think our 1st #24th overall would be too much) in a trade with the Devils for #2

Either Shane Wright/Logan Cooley/Matt Savoie would be a great center prospect to have…all will be gone by pick #5….

I think Wright still goes to MTL, we’re just seeing the typical fabricated “who goes first” talk from media as the draft approaches. Cooley/Slavkofski go next and then there’s a couple Euro defensemen who are studs. They might end up the stars of the draft similar to 2017 when Miro/Makar went right after the big name forwards. I could absolutely see Savoie falling to 7.

Fiala alone should land the #7 from Ottawa but as mentioned it would take a lot more for the #2 – those picks just don’t get traded in the NHL, not knowingly anyway.

I hope they take the 5’3″ defenseman (Lane Hutson) with the late 2nd just to see fans freak out jester

Normally, I’d extend the previous comment about “expect to be underwhelmed” with the Fiala trade to our draft pick this year as well. We just didn’t suck enough to be successful in today’s NHL and once again ended up in the worst possible position: Good enough to get beat in R1.

However… All objective opinions out there say we’ve got the best draft brain trust the Wild have ever had, so good things can still happen.

I think the key in the whole Fiala trade is how Fiala feels about where he’s going. If he likes it and there’s possible chemistry there, then the idea of him resigning there are increased, less risk of him walking as a UFA = bigger potential payout for the Wild in terms of a return.

If Fiala’s pissed about where he’s getting sent and there aren’t good vibes about him resigning there after next season… Yeah.

It’s actually kind of fun to see where this ends up because I saw even back last season that Fiala was heading for the exit because the Billy & Deano show simply don’t like him as a culatural fit with the team they’re trying to build. It was only a matter of time.

Im sure once its decided he is getting moved BG will open the door for Fiala and his agent to talk to other teams. They would likely have a contract figured out before the trade was even consummated.

Thinking about the draft and looking at Pronmon’s latest article, there could be some big Centers and D-men available at 24. Id love to see Geekie fall to 24, but I dont think that is going to happen, he isnt one of the bigger guys I was referring too, but he is a hard worker and would fit well in the middle six down the road.

which is why I would spend one of the 2nd’s and move up in the first…GMBG and staff have shown they’re willing to move up for a guy they like, we’ll see…

I just hope they avoid the Vikings draft strategy of quantity over quality…

I hope that is their plan next year though! Deep draft. This year not so much.

Props to the Rangers for coming back in that series against the Canes. They were down 3-1 to the Pens and won in 7, and they were down 2-0 to the Canes and came back to win in 7. They are probably not going to be able to do it against the 2 time defending champs though and it would behoof them to not fall in a 2 game hole.

The Prosser brothers have a new podcast called the Pross Box. Sounds like they have a ton of former Wild players lined up for episodes. Could be a really good podcast with some quality stories.

Igor is currently on a role though, he can win a series by himself, will be a tough task but it’s been done before…I really thought the Lightning would struggle with Point being out, but they toughed out some wins, not sure they can repeat that against the Rangers…

Battle of the Russian goalies in the East and Battle of the offensive superstars in the West. Two completely different matchups that should be awesome in different ways. Tampa and Colorado both highly favored and I don’t see how Tampa loses right now. They look to be on a mission and the Rangers are pretty happy to have clawed as far as they have. McDavid and crew could take down the Avs if the get to Kuemper though, they made a Vezina finalist look like an AHLer in Calgary. I expect Colorado to blow them out tonight, they always come out flying in game 1.
