I would be happy to get a late top ten or mid first round pick and a good prospect for Fiala. Unfortunately I don’t think BG is going to have much leverage in this one. We’ll likely take a step back this next season but maybe that will result in a better pick in that loaded draft. Would be pretty sweet to have TWO first round picks in that draft.

I heard somebody suggest a Fiala + Talbot to New Jersey for the #2 and a mid-level prospect or Holtz and a mid-round pick (3rd) next year…. I’d do either trade in a heartbeat.
Yeah, that was me. I would love to do that deal, but then we’d have to figure out our goalie situation and we have no guarantee that Fleury wants to sign and no backup. Backups can be had, but a #1 will be tougher. Im still on board if that deal can be had though taking the risk.
brandmoneyPosts: 282May 26, 2022 at 8:47 am #2126764That MacKinnon goal was one of the best I’ve ever watched live. Coast to coast, 3rd period, for the lead at home in an elimination game. Not to mention for a shower of hats, probably the most I’ve seen thrown as well.
He had 3 goals and an assist with a +3 rating. He was simply unreal last night.
As for the Avalanche, their second-round exit is our first-round exit. Losses to San Jose, Dallas, and Vegas all in the previous 3 second rounds.
I really really hope they can turn it around it St Louis tomorrow night.May 26, 2022 at 9:04 am #2126770<div class=”d4p-bbt-quote-title”>JoeMX1825 wrote:</div>

my guess is that GMBG will want to iron out if Fleury wants back or not asap, that decision then leads to other decisions…

I wanted them to beat the Avs, but now that quickly turned. Im not a fan of Kadri, but no one should be subject to the types of threats he and his family have faced.
May 26, 2022 at 9:13 am #2126773Comparing players from different generations is an exercise in futility
No it’s not.
Gretzky – 4 Stanley Cups won and 6 trips to the finals.
McDavid – 0 Stanley Cups won, 0 trips to the finals.
Great players win cups because they lead and drive their teams to win cups.
The best recent example of this is Ovechkin. When he became a vocal and active leader rather than sitting on the bench brooding, his team was propelled to his first cup win. What a coincidence.
McD is going to be in Edmonton most of his career. He wears the letter. He needs to be more than a goal scorer there for Edmonton to win a cup.

Can we agree that the Gretzky Oiler teams were some of the greatest teams ever put together in the history of the NHL? oh and they didn’t have a salary cap back then…Do you think McDavid would win cups if he also had Messier, Anderson, Kurri, Coffey, Lowe, Fuhr on his team? I mean the Gretzky Oilers almost had 2 full lines of Hall of Famers….

May 26, 2022 at 9:33 am #2126782curveball question – Does anybody know if there’s been any resolution to the San Jose Sharks Cap implications from Evander Kane’s contract? I don’t see his salary anywhere on their books on capfriendly…

I thought they terminated his contract? “The NHLPA filed a grievance on behalf of Evander Kane after the San Jose Sharks terminated the veteran forward’s contract Sunday. Kane, 30, was in the fourth year of a seven-year, $49 million contract that paid him $7 million annually. Kane will forfeit $22.8 million from the remainder of the deal.”

As of now his contract is terminated so no cap penalty to SJS. He had a grievance hearing a month ago and the only thing reported is that it will need more time and nothing scheduled yet. He’s going after $20m+ and whatever he is granted, if anything, will get charged to SJS cap.
tswobodaPosts: 8521May 26, 2022 at 9:44 am #2126791If there’s anything that shows what a joke the Edmonton Oilers depth is it’s Evander Kane. He’s the first legitimate winger McDavid has been given to play with (Draisaitl on and off does not count) and he’s immediately turned him into a 40+ goal scorer

I wonder what the circumstances are for the no caphit implications…is it being found guilty of a crime? (was he offically?)
tswobodaPosts: 8521May 26, 2022 at 9:57 am #2126793No he’s never been criminally convicted, charged, or even accused.
The hearing is all contract law BS where SJS has to prove they had grounds to terminate his contract. It’s pretty obvious they wanted him out of the locker room and off their books. They terminated the contract after he got COVID and crossed the border into Canada during his time off in protocol.
CaptainMuskyPosts: 22823May 26, 2022 at 9:58 am #2126794He also had a fake Covid vaccination card which I believe is the main grounds why they terminated him.
tswobodaPosts: 8521May 26, 2022 at 10:01 am #2126796He also had a fake Covid vaccination card which I believe is the main grounds why they terminated him.
He was suspended by the league for that, and rumor has it the sharks organization is who reported it to the NHL.
It’s just so obvious they wanted him off the team because of personal issues. They should have to buy him out just like any other team would.

I agree. It will be interesting to see what comes of this.

well, it’s also a byproduct of one player making 15.2% of a team’s salary cap total (The 4% ish cap difference between McDavid and other teams top paid players could allow for another good wing option to be signed)…they are also getting a healthy Evander Kane for pennies on the dollar of what his worth is…
NO argument that the Oilers GM’s haven’t used the capspace they have to find the proper players to put around him…

exactly what i’m getting at… seems like another team we know had personal issues with a player or two and yet are now in buyout caphell the next 3 years….
CaptainMuskyPosts: 22823May 26, 2022 at 10:09 am #2126802The Oilers issues havent been scoring its stopping teams from scoring whether it be defensive depth or goaltending. Smith has been either on fire or terrible. That goal the other night was hilarious. Dubnyk was on NHL Network and was asked about it and he thought he likely lost sight of it due to the dark colored seats. He said it happened to him on occasion and one time it was far worse. He is such a likable dude too bad his play plummeted so quickly.
tswobodaPosts: 8521May 26, 2022 at 10:39 am #2126813Well their issue isn’t scoring when McDavid is on the ice, but they’re the worst scoring team when he’s on then bench. I just meant the list of wingers McDavid has played with through the years and turned into “first liners” is a joke. Kane is the first legit winger besides part time with Leon and he’s immediately a 40 goal scorer.
The List? Poolparty, Zach Kassian, aforementioned Pat Maroon (lol), washed Lucic – it’s honestly comical the guys he’s played with in his career.
CaptainMuskyPosts: 22823May 26, 2022 at 10:46 am #2126815Right, McDavid certainly elevates those around him and you are absolutely right the Kane is the best besides Draisatl that hes played with.

it’s gotta come down to Management feeling like he can play with anybody and the $ is better spent spreading talent around the other lines and defense? It’s not like free agent wingers are NOT going to want to play with him…
His 15.2% of their capspace does equal about a $4 million reduced cap allocation vs the other top players in the league at around $9aav (not including Toronto) so that’s definately a factor…so because of this he gets Yamamoto at wing (at $1aav) vs somebody else better (at $5aav)
tswobodaPosts: 8521May 26, 2022 at 11:27 pm #2126945Battle of Alberta just keeps getting better. Kick goal is going to be talked about forever if Edmonton ends this tonight.
tswobodaPosts: 8521May 27, 2022 at 9:01 am #2126978That’s the most electric 5 game series I can ever remember – The Battle of Berta did not disappoint!
tswobodaPosts: 8521May 27, 2022 at 9:02 am #2126979I think it really just goes to show you can’t win playoff hockey with guys like Zadorov, Gudbrandson, and Hannifin – they obviously get worn down by the speed of a long series.

Odd that Calgary couldn’t hold a lead last night. My bracket is now busted with the Flames eliminated. Not an enormous surprise that the Oilers made it to the west finals though.
McDavid has Conn Smyth MVP written all over him at this point.
RipjiggenPosts: 11601May 27, 2022 at 9:46 am #2126995Not surprising because of all the playoff success they have had previously? Or was ther 55 year old goalie.
McDavid vs McKinnon (if it happens) could be must see TV
Justin riegelPosts: 936May 27, 2022 at 9:48 am #2126996AVS Vs the Oilers I think will be a much better matchup then if Calgary won.
