So no comments on that grinding defensive battle last night in Calgary?
I believe they are calling it the Battle of Alberta.
They should call it the Calgary Shooting Gallery instead. Obviously I’m sure it’s happened before but I don’t recall ever seeing a goalie getting chased in the playoffs with more than 10 minutes still left in the first period.

It was crazy nuts, I went to bed when it was 5-1 Flames…ooops
No surprise Smith got lit up early, that dude is a psycho headcase!
That’s what you say when you have no way possible of acquiring one.
well, they really don’t, no team is going to give one up and we couldn’t afford to buy one if one even become available for at least 4 years…
Draft Prospect Profile – Matt Savoie
5’9″ 170lb Center, Shoots Right
WHL – Winnipeg Ice – Canadian – Projected to go around pick 7 in this draft
He’s pretty much a Rossi clone, maybe a tad bit better of a goal scorer, where Rossi would be a better passer. Both don’t mind the physical stuff which is rare for their size. Currently playing for the WHL powerhouse Winnipeg Ice, 65 games played he has 35 goals and 55 assists. My worry with him are his size and how inflated are his stats due to who he gets to play with every game? although Rossi had Jack Quinn to pass to during his big OHL Draft year season… lots of bigtime WHL scorers fizzle when they get to the next level (Adam Beckan and many others)

Draft Prospect Profile – Logan Cooley
5’10” 170 lb Center, Shoots Left, American
Expected to go top 3 of the draft
Currently plays for the US Development Program as their 1C (has committed to playing for the Gophers next year)
He’s a stud center who has all of the tools you could want except size, but he plays with a low center of gravity and a bit of a wide skate style so he’s hard to knock off the puck. He’s been lighting up every league/tourney he’s played in…Great shooter with an excellent passing ability as well…he plays with alot of confidence and flare, alot like Trevor Zegras

Hey I was all in on Lundell at 9 until Rossi and Perfetti fell. Bennett played wing for 6 years in Calgary I’m not disputing FLA is good down the middle this year, just saying you woulda never said that coming in to the season. They’re no Crosby-Malkin McDavid-Draisaitl-Nuge or Staal-Koivu-Hanzal
If Florida has and injury to a top 9 center they easily fill it with Reinhart Giroux etc…
When Barkov is you number 1 it’s alot closer. Considering Draisaitl plays over half the game with McJesus and I may be faster than Malkin at this point.
Stall Koivu Hanzal circa whatever year.
Is not any worse than Hartman-Ek-Freddie Hockey. Seems about a wash to me.
You can’t deny the wild would be better long term if Harts was playing wing with say Rossi and Boldy. With a big IF Rossi is that guy.
All I am saying is if you don’t try for top prospects or drafting centers than you chance of getting a true 1C via elsewhere is almost 0.
Like I said before you take the best package deal that is available but certainly would be talking to teams about center prospects or high draft picks first.
Someone that needs a goaltender should offersheet Oettinger. That would be funny. That kid looks to be a stud.

So far to me he seems like a better scorer already. Koivu could barely get to 20. Lundell has 18 in 65 games as a rookie.
Seems like a better comparison to stone hands. Who we all know can snipe when given the chance.

Drafting 1C’s typically requires picking in the top 3, the Wild have ONLY DONE THAT once in its existance (They took Gaborik #3, that draft didn’t have a good center picked until #16 Marian Hossa) I beleive the next highest draft pick we ever had was #5 in 2005 (we picked Benoit Poulliot and missed on Anze Kopitar that year who went #11, Crosby went #1) We took Koivu at #6 (He was the 4th Center taken by #6) and he’s been our only hit on getting a good center. We took Dumba at #7 (Hertl went #17, Galchenyuk went #3) and that was it for picking in the top 10 unitl we got Rossi at #9 a few years ago…So we would have either had to go a long ways off the draft board (not an easy thing to do for a young franchise) or either needed to have been one of the worst teams in the NHL and/or got any lottery luck, we never did either…
We missed out on Brayden Point in the 2nd round when he got drafted, that one will haunt us for awhile…
So it’s not like we haven’t drafted centers (we typically take 2-3 every year) it’s just the surethings are typically picked long before we get a chance…

Lundell’s also lucky to play on the President’s trophy team his rookie year, I’d say the quality of his teammates are a little better than what Koivu had to work with the first 1/3 of his career

How about his whole career?

Don’t disagree and you are making my point. Something that hasn’t been done often and what they should be wheeling dealing to get done. I said it before finding one in FA or a trade doesn’t happen. Trading for a prospect or high draft capital is what they are planning on doing with Fiala correct? Or at least what we are hoping. I don’t see them getting NJ second pick, but we shall see how it works out.
Apparently prospect talk brings out the crazy in everyone. 2 pages of banter on stuff we all pretty much agree on.
Bored at work today.
yeah, I’m scraping the barrel and typing draft profiles for guys that will be long gone by the time we pick…
Today’s juicy interview with GMBG by KFAN’s Dan Barrero, Billy doesnt pull any punches and gets pissed off at “They” in the media keep dumping on Matt Dumba to get traded so we can keep Fiala…
Barrero should have clarified that Dumba’s name keeps getting brought up because he’s a big chunk of salary that could be moved and he has limited trade protection vs others on the team…
Pretty amazing story on nhl.com about a former Wild prospect saving a 6 year old girl’s life on the beach. Can’t say I remember the guy but well done.
Tampa Bay is 4 for 7 on the powerplay against Florida sofar….
Hopefully the Wild coaches are busy whiteboarding a new powerplay for next season already…

Barreo should not need to clarify that or anything with BG or I sure as hell hope not anyway. Maybe he should have added trade Dumba because he’s not very good and makes too much money. Fiala is a trigger for BG and Evason. Leave Fiala’s name out of it and it might have registered.
BG and Evason get man crushes on certain players and they never seem to be the right ones. They seem to lose perspective at times.
Wonder what Spurgeon thinks about the coverage on that goal with 4 seconds left?
Billy Gs wires crossed when Barerro dropped Suter’s name. Don’t ever see GM interviews go like that
Yeah I can’t hate on him for sticking up for player that is under contract. Didn’t exactly sit back and give cliche answers to every question.
Barreiro likes to go after front office guys or players that blame the media for things. I’ve seen him get butthurt over that many times.
Yeah he was fired up and didn’t let off the gas until the very end.
Is Colorado getting a little nervous here? This is EXACTLY how their playoffs went last year. Binnington has been lights out in the playoffs and I hate it

I would be very afraid if I were the Avs. If they get down a game to the Blues, they won’t get back up.
Basically, this Avs/STL series is the Western CC judging by what went on in G1 of the Alberta Dumpster Fire. Winner goes to the cup.
I haven’t paid much close attention to the Avs vs Blues series, what is St Louis doing differently from the Wild series (if anything?) From what I have watched, it appears St Louis is getting a combination of good bounces and Binnington standing on his head…am I missing anything?
