The Evolving Hockey contract projections are historically really good and the best thing to go off. I don’t have a subscription, but my guess for Middelton is 3 x $2.5

I wouldn’t hesitate to stretch that out to 4-5 years if it could get the aav at or below $2 million…

Worried Russians won’t get work visas for next season. I think all the superstars are going back though so I’m guessing it will be a non-issue

That would be my only concern and it’s not real high.

just reading through/watching Wild season recaps, I forgot how much different this team looked at the end vs how it all started…

Ek started at 1C, but then Victor Rask took over for a few games… Hartman centered Foligno and Greenway and Fiala was playing with Bjugstad…Goligoski was part of the 1st D pairing…

at least we figured out that the GREEF line needs to stay together, Hartman can do well playing with Kaprizov and Zuccy and Boldy is a 2nd line mainstay…it should be easier to find chemistry at the start of next season…

if it’s a problem, Louie would borrow Leapold’s jet and go get them all…

To be fair The CHL excluded Russians from the import draft as ‘sanctions’ but according to prospect guys it didn’t matter because none of them could get visas anyway.. Difference is they are 16 year olds, not adults making and generating millions.

I’m sure KK and the other Russians will be fine. Their agents are plugged in with that stuff and would be telling them all to stay if it was an issue.

Russia is about as predictable as Lake Superior weather these days. The comings and goings of anyone there are liable to change at any moment at the whim of a dictator who is rumored to be unstable. Nothing would surprise me.

    Wild signed Walstead.
In my opinion Signing Fleury would be ok but not at 4 million.
I just don’t think at this stage and with the salary cap issues he’s worth it.
Keep Jost, re-sign Middleton, even Kulikov for the right money. Trade Fiala and Dumba. Trade Spurgeon if the return is high enough.

Kulikov is already signed so is Jost. Spurg isn’t going anywhere. He also has NTC.

Wallstedt’s A & B Performance bonuses are only $425k, that’s 1/2 of what Askarov just signed for with the Preds…

I suppose those are slotted based on where they are drafted right? Since he went 9 picks earlier.

looks like it’s just a negotiation with a max limit rule

    ENTRY LEVEL PLAYERS

How much can Entry Level players make?

Entry Level players will be subject to a maximum annual salary (plus signing and games played bonuses) of $850,000 for 2005 and 2006 draftees; $875,000 for 2007 and 2008 draftees; $900,000 for 2009 and 2010; and $925,000 for 2011 draftees.

The maximum combined signing bonus will be limited to 10% of the player’s maximum annual compensation in any year.

Entry Level players may negotiate for performance bonuses up to a maximum of $850,000 in individual “Schedule A” bonuses per year (maximum of $212,500 per bonus). A player may also be eligible to earn individual “B” bonuses for League-wide excellence, which will, as a general matter, be paid by the League. In addition, a player will be eligible to negotiate with his club “excess” individual “B” bonuses, subject to a maximum aggregate of $2 million in any year.

For the most part yeah, higher picks get higher potential performance bonuses but there’s no hard rule to it. I think Rossi is $850k and Boldy is $600k even though they were only a couple picks apart – Perunovich was mid 2nd round and his bonuses are over $1m. And anyone can get them, even undrafted players. Example Mitch Chaffee is eligible for like $850k.

as we discussed earlier, it’s pretty safe to assume ELC Goalie contracts don’t meet their Performance bonuses as thier likelyhood to get enough NHL games in their first 3 years in unlikely…

I’d like to know if his ELC can slide another year since his 20th birthday is AFTER the 9/15 deadline date (like Rossi’s did) so this is essentially a 4 year ELC… I asked Russo but no word back yet….

I just found this exception rule, looks like it can’t be…

Exception : A player who signs an entry-level contract at age 19, and then turns 20 before Dec 31 of that year is not slide eligible

Same rule why Boldy’s ELC didn’t slide even though he signed when he was 19. Dumb.

listening to the presser, Deano says there will be lots of changes to the special teams next year, more player changes rather than system changes as Deano pointed out they used the exact same systems as Washington did when they were ranked #1, it’s all about the execution (having Ovi helps too)

GMBG expects Rossi to make the team next year, but it won’t just be given to him, he needs to earn it (umm like Beckman last camp?)

All his family is back in Russia, that’s his home. No surprise he’d go back there for the offseason.

How about coming up with a system that better fits YOUR team rather than copy some one else’s? What player changes? Weren’t your best players on the ice for PP and PK’s? Wasn’t D-Lo supposed to be great on the PK and we rarely seen him out there. You had all season long to make those changes and you never did. This sounds like a cop out to me. I think Deano got a little exposed in the playoffs. He was too stubborn and could not bring himself to make any changes until it was to late while Berube was creative and decisive early. But the narrative is it’s all Fiala’s fault we didn’t advance.

I felt Beckman should have at least gotten a handful of games after his training camp. He clearly earned it. He was a absolute locker room star the way Foligno and others just gushed about him and he was proving it on the ice. When you are led to believe you will get a reward when you earn it and then you go out and earn it and don’t get the reward that looks bad on the guy who made the promise and they guy who got cheated is going to feel exactly that way. Not how you build relationships.

Billy G spent the first 5 minutes taking pot shots at Suter and Parise jester

    Middelton: “We want him back”
    Flower: “We want him back!!!”
Fiala: “Uncertain uncertain uncertain… I haven’t made any calls yet”

    Fiala is so gone.

yeah, it was pretty telling…now his focus should be about what value he can get for Fiala…there should be a long list of teams wanting to trade for him (or basically his negotiating rights)

I’m now hopeful he can somehow snag the #2 pick away from New Jersey in a trade (and maybe another prospect or draft pick) and then we can draft Logan Cooley (projected future 1C) Then trade our late 1st rounder and one of our 2nd rounders to move upto the middle of the 1st round and grab the best availble right shot wing…

I was sniffing around CapFriendly and the Kings (along with NJ and Ott) might be an option. They arent going to have a super high 1st, but they could include other prospects and I am sure Fiala would love to go there with his girlfriend/fiance being kind of a model or something.

What happens to Fiala’s trade value when teams talk to his agent and find out he’s looking for 8 x $9m

for sure they could be in play, but I assume GMBG would want to ship him out East to avoid Fiala killing us in the 1st round ;)

it would likely need to be ELC prospects and I think besides Brandt Clark and Francesco Pinelli, most are currently burning up their ELC years already…I’m losing faith in Turcotte turning into anything special anymore…

Perhaps multiple picks instead. I havent looked over their prospect pool much, but I agree with Turcotte. A year ago we would be like hell yeah get that guy.

His agent also pulls up the current comps for 85 point scorers and shows the career point totals of Fiala’s linemates the past 3 seasons…his argument will be, give him 1st line minutes and linemates and he’ll put up 100 points (pay no attention to his playoffs stats behind the curtain though)…They’ll also show the projected salary cap increases across the length of whatever contract he’s looking for and how it will eventually turn into a bargain…some team will take the chance of striking gold…his agent has been around the block once or twice, he knows what’s a legitimate price and what’s candyland…they’ll want multiple suitors, so they probably start a bit lower to drive up the price vs shutting most suitors out instantly…

who knows…if I were to guess based on his age and potential if given good linemates, I think he’s worth an easy $7+ a season, some comps kill his asking price (like Jake Guentzel, Alex Debrincat, Sam Reinhart, Brad Marchand) and others will drive it up (Matt Duchesne, Brady Tkachuk, etc) it just seems like salaries are only going UP UP UP, so today’s $9aav will look & feel like $7aav in a few years…

Well my Toronto and Nashville picks failed in my bracket, but the rest I have correct so I’m 6 for 8 in round one. Had to sweat it out in game 7 OT with Dallas and Calgary because I picked the Flames to win the Stanley Cup. WHEW
