Not sure why, but I’m getting a feeling that Flower might start game 1.

Looks like your feeling is true.

i’m surprised, but maybe the thinking is give him the chance to put together one more magical playoff run, if he falters you bring Cam in for the rest of the series, but if you catch lightning, you ride it as far as it takes you?

It may seem a bit surprising but it really isnt at the same time. I am sure there will be a short leash with either goalie. Excited to see how this goes. If Fleury is on he is other worldly. Just as Fiala.

what was the 1st/2nd round draft pick clause from the trade? Fleury gets at least 2 wins in each of the frist two rounds or 4 wins total?

nvm, I just found that it’s 4 wins total in first 2 rounds…

There’s an argument for Flower’s athletic style being better against the pass-happy Blues than Cam’s ‘get hit by the puck’ style. But I think Fleury game 1 was a GM decision and it was made a month ago or whenever the trade deadline was. Talbot comments in his recent presser sounded like a guy expecting to be on the bench for playoffs.

Foligno injury has to be a contusion or deep bruise which can’t really be further injured or aggravated. It just hurts like biotch so he’ll be juiced up with vitamin-T and good to go. I do hope it keeps him off the PK and they put D-Lo with JEEK instead.

It is to me. I thought Talbot earned his way into the game 1 starter the last month or so. His stats have been worthy of his All Star status. Fluery hasn’t been bad either, but IMO he’s getting the starting nod based on his history and experience.

I do agree that both of them would be on a short leash and you ride whoever is playing well until they falter.

like I said, it’s an opportunity for Fleury to catch fire, if he’s winning you keep him in, if he falters then the net is Cam’s as long as he can hold it…it also eliminates all of the distractions of fans/media screaming “bring Fleury in” if Talbot lets in a “soft” goal in game 1…Fleury has his shot, it’s upto him to keep it..

I think it’s more of a “you can’t trade for a Hall of Fame goalie at the deadline and sit him in the playoffs” type of thing.

Im not so sure about this. Guerin said that they have conversations with the coaching staff, but ultimate decisions are up to Dean.

I brought this up recently on lineup changes. I think the coach should be making these decisions. Not the GM. We won’t ever know who made this decision. That is not public information unless someone leaks it.

Yeah they lied. Call it GM Speak or Coach Speak or whatever but I think they lie through their teeth about lineup decisions and injuries in public press conferences. As they should.

This. BG knew this when he traded for him.

probably, but nobody knew Talbot wouldn’t lose a game since the trade either…

    Exactly toast

Looks like Scandella out for the Blues – though I’m not sure which team this helps. He’s a top 4 D-man but he’s also a liability.

That’s what I’m talking about. He earned it with his play. I almost hope it back fires now.

Fleury can be a liability when he decides to go out for a stroll and play the puck sometimes. That’s when my blood pressure spikes.

The Wild have a massive edge at D against the Blues.

I can’t say what the actual rational was for the person who actually made the decision, but this reasoning makes the most sense to me.

Just makes it more obvious that Fleury was the predetermined starter, right?

Husso starting the for the Blues. I hope we get to see Binnington ASAP – guy’s a headcase.

Yes, I would say that’s accurate without any kind of confirmation.

Russo tweeted that Flower is practicing in the starters net for the morning skate. Personally I’d like to see Cam get the start from how well he has been playing.

Binnington scares me because he’s a complete Wildcard, he can be absolutely lights out (as we saw several years ago in the playoffs) or he can be absolutely terrible (like mostly this season)…with Husso we kind of know what we’re getting…although his numbers the past 10 games or so are not very good…

We don’t know for sure that’s the reason they acquired him. Its only speculation.

I stand behind my opinion that Talbot should be starting in game 1. I think starting Fleury is not the right move. And apparently others agree with me.

Can we talk about how weird it is that 36 year old Alex Goligoski is healthy scratched for game 1 a month after getting a 2 year x $2m extension?
