And I still think quoting their record against Nashville is dumb

At this point, yes. A month ago, not necessarily.

Their record is 0-1-2 against St Louis this season. Would you agree that is it is a more relevant stat than goalie stats from a decade ago?

Historical stats don’t mean much to the players. I understand that. But they sure do mean a lot to the fan base. If Minnesota earns home ice and plows through the Blues in the first round, I’ll be the first one in line to admit my shortcomings here.

I never said a word about their record against St. Louis, aside from calling the WC a ‘home game’. I agree that it’s worth looking at, relevant info for sure. My only criticism was lumping them in with Nashville, that was the only part I ever disagreed with you on. Nashville isn’t very good, St. Louis is.

I dont give a rip about historical stats. The Wild owned Vegas for their first two seasons, yet lost to them in 7 last year. Stats are stats.

I’m a big stats guy. Its the most raw form of data available. They are numbers and numbers are not biased like people’s opinions are.

Are you saying that if the Wild get bounced quickly by the Blues, the naysayers aren’t going to add those numbers to their abysmal recent shortcomings against St Louis? They sure will. I can assure you of that. It’ll be plastered all over KFAN for a month.

What will they say if the Wild win in 4?

I’m going to agree with Gimruis on the record against the Blues. I hope its not the case but I just think they have our number. I do not feel good playing them the first round at all after the last few games we had against them. The last game was kinda like a Playoff game with both teams trying to get home ice.

Since you guys like stats so much, Dom L (huge analytics guy) from the Athletic just updated is playoff odds and the Wild are 70% favorites to beat the Blues in Round 1.

I knew right away tswoboda’s comment was directed at me and I thought it was a just a comment on a post I made nothing more. Page 200 here we come! toast

When it comes to playoff predictions, that nerd’s had a tough run lately.

FWIW his model is way low on the Blues because it’s heavily weighted on 5v5 xGF% and the Blues haven’t been good at controlling play at 5v5. Where they’ve been really good is on special teams…………………………

So the 0-0-2 record is what your worried about? So losing 3 on 3 in OT twice? Yeah they don’t play 3 on 3 in the playoffs. Blues came back late in one and wild came back late in the other. If those two games showed anything it’s they are pretty equal team IMO.

Is there other types of data? jester

Gim if you can’t handle a fan saying they don’t care about regular season record with the Blues. You may not want to tune in here during the playoffs.
Might get a little rowdy in here then.
There might even be a few cuss words tossed around.

I know, he actually commented later in his tweet thread that it was wrong.

FINALLY the voice of reason has returned jester

Would the 0-1-2 stat guys rather see Colorado than St. Louis in the first round? I think they won a shootout against the Aves, so 1-1-1 right? I don’t care what the record is, The Blues are a good team and they’re red hot right now. Sucks the Wild get them 1st round, there’s 5 other teams I’d rather see than them.

I’m stoked that we’ll finally see the FULL WILD team come the playoffs…fewer minutes for Goligoski, no more Jordie Benn, no more Bjugstad, no more rookie callups… I think that Wild team is built for 5-5 Playoff hockey with reduced special teams…we shall see…

I’m fine with playing the Blues, you either beat them in round 1 or future rounds, who cares…I think the guys lurking in the shadows that can swing the series for the Blues are Perron and Saad, so throw the GREEF line at the O’Reilly line and wear them down…I think our top 2 scoring lines can outscore the Blues…

as always in the playoffs, it will come down to goalies, Husso CAN get hot but he’s unproven in the playoffs, that’s where you hope the experiance of Fleury/Talbot can put the Wild over the top…

It will be an awesome series, I think home ice is important more for the line change matchup advantage more than the crowd…

I get the you have to beat everyone argument, but Vegas cup odds heavily favor teams with easier roads to the finals.

Goaltending will hopefully be the Blues’ Achilles heel, but I’m sure we’ll all be having Jake Allen flashbacks. The Robert Thomas & Russian line is the one to shut down, they’ve been red hot and scoring goals like crazy.

The Duhaime packing peanut prank is pretty funny. The best is he’s treating Dewar like his little brother and trying to act like nothing happened… “Just get in car the Dew, just get in the car”

These guys are just awesome. I love the part where Boldy realized he’s a rookie and just calmly looks at his phone. Nothing to see here! Who was the one they put post its covering their car?

There back end is what the wild have to take advantage of. Their forward group may be deeper now than when they won the cup. Their D-Core however is not very good or deep.

We did the packing peanuts in the car to the president of the company on his birthday. He left his sunroof open. He’s a Brit and they are notorious for birthday pranks. He cleaned it out when he went to lunch. We refilled it again in the afternoon.

It will be interesting to see what kind of contract Dallas Star Jason Robertson signs this offseason. It will likely be the HIGH END of what Boldy COULD ask for if he maintains his current ppg pace for a full season next year.

It could be comparable no doubt. Boldy if you project full season totals would have 30 goals and 75 pts. For an under 20 that is elite. Tony Abbott has a nice writeup just yesterday about Boldy. His comparables are very few to come by for his age.
