I’ll certainly take one if Craig is offering!
I would too, just saying it would be sorta weird.

Per NHL rules, a player must participate in at least 41 regular season games or one game in the Stanley Cup Finals to be eligible for a Stanley Cup ring. He will not be meeting either of those criteria.Where is this coming from? Maybe that is criteria to get their name on the Cup, but I’m pretty sure the owner can give a ring to whoever he wants. Black aces have rings. WAGs have rings. PA announcers have rings. Part time arena staff have rings. The Caps owner spent like $5 million on rings for the entire organization.
I wondered about this as well. Somewhere back in my foggy brain I thought I remembered some kid signing and winding up with a ring who played like two games. I’m to lazy to research it so I wan’t going to challenge gimruis on it. He still could be right Idk.

I misspoke earlier. There’s nothing that says he can’t receive a ring. He cannot get his name on the Stanley Cup.
I would personally rather have my name on Lord Stanley. There’s only a limited number of spots for each team that wins, so this is why there are restrictions implemented. Anyone associated with the franchise can receive a ring, but as CaptainMusky indicated, I would imagine that a player who suits up for a few meaningless games at the end of a regular season may not receive one. And even if he did, it wouldn’t have the same meaning as a player or coach who played an integral role during a larger portion of the season. It may physically look the same.
Agree that the meaning isn’t just about getting the ring, it’s about earning the ring.
I was just curious where you saw that rule because on a recent podcast Russo said how Lapanta and other staff would be receiving rings if the Wild won the cup. And I remember reading an article about Capitals arena employees getting rings a few years ago.
How long until we have play-in games like every other sport? I think it’s long overdue.
Playoffs setup now is dumb and just forces rivalries with the division setup.
Especially sucks for teams in deep divisions like the Central. 1-8 seeding and reseeding after each round is the right play.

That’s actually a very nice gesture if you ask me. An announcer and arena workers have been there all season as full time employees so you could make the case they deserve some recognition for that.

Remember when the BLues won? That Layla girl got one.

Its interesting that the NBA is doing this now. Would you do the 7/8, 9/10 playin? I would bet owners would like it as it would mean more $$$

They’ll do whatever they can to get more $$, that’s what it’s all about…

I’ve been complaining about the current playoff format for years now! Its dumb. Stop with the “rivalry” series already. Go to 1 through 8 seeds how they are set up in each conference and go from there. Re-seed after each round. I got so sick of seeing the Penguins and Capitals play in the second round for years.
Minnesota and St Louis are currently the 3rd and 4th overall seeds in the Western Conference, but they’re playing each other in the first round?
If they did 1-8 seeds, the first round opponent would most certainly not be the Blues. It would likely be LA, Edmonton, Nashville, or Dallas.
1-8 seeding and reseeding after each round is the right play.
How dumb is it that you play an entire season and finish 2nd in your division and then have to play the team that placed 3rd? I mean, this is why so many top teams get bounced right away. The NHL probably likes it, but it is really dumb. Its not rewarding a team for the season’s performance at all. Only the teams who win the division are rewarded.

Play in games would be interesting in the west this year for sure. Vancouver Vegas etc.
The east would be lame this year however.

Yeah I would be fine with the division winners getting the top two seeds and then seed from there.
I mean the wild playing the blues is not an upset either way when the wild should be playing a 6 seed.

As far as a ring. I’ll take one.
Chick magnet. Hell I’ll even split open my chin so I have a cool scar for my story.

Imagine the stories you could make up. “I once fought Derek Boogaard.”
The biggest thing is there should be more than half the teams involved in the playoffs. It’s been 16 teams since the WHA merger when there were only 22 teams total. I think the NBA system is good where 7&8 need to win one to get in and 9&10 need to win 2 games.

I agree. I dont think its permanent though right? I bet it will be now.

I would be fine with that. Anything past the top ten and the teams are pretty terrible. Would definitely have to change to 1-8 seeding.
I wouldn’t mind a mini series over a weekend. 1 game and ins are tough to play a full season for 1 game. Unless of course you win and move on. Higher seed gets the weekend series at home?

No idea I didn’t even know it existed until the wolves were playing in it. Just thought it seemed like a good idea.
Yeah a 1 game take all is tough for hockey since it can be so random. 3 game series sounds better but then is the rest of the league sitting around for a week waiting?
That’s what I mean do a weekend series like the big ten does the first round for the bottom 4. End the regular season mid week and start the first round on a Tuesday or Wednesday.

I am pretty sure they implemented it this year because of all the uncertainty with the schedule and possibility of teams not playing all the games.

The Big Ten has best 2 out of 3 series for their first round for the bottom 6. Only the top seed receives a first round bye. I actually don’t care for that format because the top seed sits home for a weekend and then only plays 1 game in the semi-finals, which we already agree is a random crap shoot.
The primary reason the Big Ten does his is because they have an uneven amount of teams with 7. The other leagues like the NCHC and the CCHA place their teams 1-8 and play a first round 2 out of 3 series at the home sites.
I like this guy more & more!
Hartman is all over the national news for this.
According to ESPN Hartman was called into a meeting with Wild ownership. Those familiar with the meeting say he has been officially warned not to let anything like this happen again. Unless Jamie Benn is being a total tool tonight…

Well D-Lo is back in tonight and his face is finally starting to look normal again so he’s probably due to eat a few punches from Jamie. He almost fought Foligno earlier this year but big bro Jordie stopped him. I’ve always felt bad for Jordie because he probably got beat up by his little brother his entire childhood.
I would too, just saying it would be sorta weird.

Not weird. Wild.

I am familiar with the big ten format thanks.
I meant the bottom 4 teams play a weekend series “like” the big ten.
Yes 2 out of 3 instead of a one and done format.
To me pro sports seasons are to long for a one and done playoff format.
Obviously football is a different scenario.
And to the guy who made the fake Ryan Hartman Venmo account and made money. I hope you choke on your dinner tonight.
what an ass
