I’d be surprised if Meyers cracks into the starting lineup regularly at this point with the Avalanche. My guess is that he will be playing for their AHL team until season’s end unless someone gets injured. He will not be on the active playoff roster either (he’s ineligible per NHL rules). If the Avalanche win the Stanley Cup, and we all know they are the heavy favorites, he will not be hoisting it and his name will not be on it. If he had signed with the Wild, he wouldn’t be on their roster either. He’d start in Iowa.
Per NHL rules, a player must participate in at least 41 regular season games or one game in the Stanley Cup Finals to be eligible for a Stanley Cup ring. He will not be meeting either of those criteria.
Usually when a college player joins a pro squad late in the season, they aren’t put into the starting NHL lineup right away if the team is a legit contender or a playoff team. If the team sucks and isn’t going anywhere, then they are. Noah Cates and Bobby Brink have both been put right into the lineup right away for the Flyers because they’re a train wreck.
