Dumba hurts himself going for a big hit and puts the team on another PK. Lives up to his name.

Didn’t look like he was moving his right arm so could be either. Hopefully just stung him. As much as he drives me crazy we know how our D drops when he’s out.
April 5, 2022 at 8:32 pm #2114157Just completely off our game. Bad decisions all over the ice. Gonna be tough to come back from this one.
April 5, 2022 at 8:39 pm #2114162I think overall the Predators have one of the biggest teams in the NHL (Granlund probably keeps them from being 1st) and our style just lets the larger teams dictate the play. We can add a few plug & play big guys but our core are all soft players and can be taken advantage of physically…
That and we can’t afford to take stupid penalties:)
April 5, 2022 at 8:49 pm #2114165Gosh we’re getting the chances to get back into this game but cant capitalize…
April 5, 2022 at 9:00 pm #2114168So close a couple of times to scoring a second on the PP there. Just couldn’t hit the net. Hopefully got them back in the game for the third though.
This Preds team sure plays different that previous years. Seemed like they had a lot less beef than they do now. Never thought I’d hear that they’d be leading the league in fighting majors!

They’ve been one of the biggest/heaviest teams in the NHL the past 4-5 years… that was even with 5’5” Rocco Grimaldi denting their overall size stats for years..

They are 4 for 4 on the PP and all 4 goals off bone head penalties. All 4 completely unnecessary penalties. Wild are giving them the game on a platter.
April 5, 2022 at 9:34 pm #2114178Damn Saros is solid tonight! 3 games in 4 nights is emptying the tanks for a comeback tonight i’m afraid…

Dang, I guess I never noticed it.
April 5, 2022 at 10:19 pm #2114185Dumba left the arena shortly after he went to the locker room per Russo.

The way it looks we won’t see Dumba for awhile. Jordie Benn will dress Friday and beyond is my guess. No clue what the Wild’s plans are with Addison but they don’t seem to include playing him. Evason says no way was that a penalty on Dumba but the puck was gone from McCarron by twenty feet when Dumba decided to change course and hit a guy much bigger than he is.
The Preds showed the game plan for how to beat the Wild and if the Preds are who we draw in the first round it could be another early exit.

But apparently we have zero chance of playing them in the first round, according to IDO. The guaranteed first round opponent is St Louis, right?

What’s that, go 4 for 4 on the powerplay and let your goalie bail you out while getting pummeled at 5 on 5?
April 6, 2022 at 7:49 am #2114220Outside of giving up 3 (well really 4) Powerplay goals, I thought the Wild outplayed Nashville once we started playing our game vs letting them dictate. Saros was dialed in last night, but we also blew more than enough chances to win. It also seemed like we wanted to show off our newly aquired toughness which backfired…
It was also our 3rd road game in 4 nights…I was encouraged by how the game progressed and finished.

Exactly! Saros stood on his head for 45 minutes in that game last night. Wild just couldn’t find the twine. But, the PK needs to get better, no doubt.
D-Lo better slow it down a little bit. Won’t be much face left for the playoffs at his current pace!

Posts: 9103April 6, 2022 at 7:56 am #2114223I thought the fights were fine, but maybe it they got the bench overly fired up idk – the skill guys were the ones taking dumb penalties. Fiala, KK, and Dumba penalties were just completely unnecessary plays. Duhaime’s looked like an accident where he caught the guy up high battling in front of the net.

The Predators are 4 points behind the Blues, each with 69 games played. I am not sure how many times they still play each other yet, I just think there was and still is a “reasonable” chance that Nashville could be the first round opponent of the Wild.
At this point, does it really matter whether its the Preds or Blues? Neither one is an advantage. They both would give Minnesota a serious problem in the first round.

Beat me to it. Wild were a better team 5 on 5. Faced a goalie that made 47 saves and gave up 4 shorties. If that is the recipe good luck trying to repeat it.
April 6, 2022 at 8:24 am #2114241I think worrying about playoff matchups is overblown, Outside of the 1vs8 typically being easier, EVERY matchup will be tough! Just look at the East, the way it’s setting up the Canes will play the Lightning! One of those two powerhouse teams will be a first round loser!
All i’m worried about now is that the Wild get/stay healthy, there’s nothing worse than being in the playoffs without your best team, then there’s all of the “We would have won if X wasn’t hurt” excuses, blah blah blah…

Posts: 9103April 6, 2022 at 8:30 am #2114242Kinda sad there’s only one real playoff spot up for grabs in the entire NHL. Vegas still has tough odds to catch one of LA, Dallas, or Nash but at the same time it just feels inevitable they make it. As a Wild fan who wants them to win the cup, I really hope Vegas doesn’t make the playoffs. As a fan of Team Chaos – Vegas clawing into the playoffs and knocking off Colorado in the 1st round is a story book ending.

PM me for a friendly wager if you think I’m wrongI should have done that yesterday when you bet a million $$ on the Wild to win last night!
Saros is a damn good goalie and it’s not all that unusual to have games like he did last night. I think the early fights and the overall chippiness the entire time got the Wild off their game and then Saros playing like he did sealed the deal. Maybe that wasn’t the exact strategy of the Preds going in but they found out early that it worked. Keep the wild on the pk. ya think the Blues might be watching tape of last nights game? A lot of those penalties were out of frustration of the skilled guys getting knocked around a bit and a scrum after every whistle. Dumba’s I thought was a typical Dumba move of oh you want to play heavy I’ll show ya and he picked the wrong time and wrong guy to try to show em.
Deslauries needs to come up with some sort of a shock absorber system between his visor and his face.

I told a friend this and if they do make the playoffs it could be a real possibility.
Last night was not a great game but you cant hit the panic button after 1 game. Come on guys!

Good thing no one took me up on that one

The problem is that now the Wild’s record against Nashville and St Louis combined is 0-4. All of those losses are in regulation too, and they really haven’t even been close. Nashville has outscored Minnesota 17-6 in 3 games.
Nothing earth-shattering is going to change with either of these teams before the playoffs unless someone gets injured. Nashville has found a recipe for success against Minnesota this season, that is for sure.
