You do??? Not since pre 2013 would you see guys removing their helmet. It’s a penalty to remove your own helmet in a fight.

yes, but if BOTH fighters do it the penalty means nothing, so you still see it done. It’s only applicable when one fighter removes it first and the other doesn’t and backs out of the fight (like Hartman did earlier this year)
The NHL put the penalty in place to avoid players getting slammed down at the end of the fight and hit their head, fighters don’t like punching into face shields for both getting cuts on their hands and as we saw accross the nose…
yes, but if BOTH fighters do it the penalty means nothing, so you still see it done all the time.
If by all the time you mean NEVER, then sure. No one ever takes their helmet off in the NHL. Doesn’t happen anymore
Thanks for the Hartman reminder. Funniest thing to happen all year, the best was Hartman still getting a jab in at the end.

I edited out the “all the time” comment, but it certainly still does happen, more often with the heavyweights who fight more often, when it does happen typically one fighters asks the other to take theirs off and they do it at the same time….
I had a Barret Jackman fight I watched clear in my mind when thinking about this, turns out he retired like 5 years ago…lol
Give 1 example of it happening the last 2 years. Refs jump in and stop fight immediately if someone takes off their helmet.
Agree it rarely happens if ever now. It’s a game suspension in the OHL guys are used to it. Just doesn’t happen anymore.
Haha I love this place! Every subject regardless how trivial gets into a pick the nit battle complete with pictures! Not criticizing anyone it’s just a fun observance and fun to read!

Yep, i’ll walk back my comment. The many times I’ve seen it happen turns out it was back before the rule change (doesn’t seem like it was that long ago)…I know Dealauriers wanted to a year or so ago in a game I happen to be watching and both fighters were about to and you can see the Ref threaten something so they stopped (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M2Tb-Rl0dIg)
wrong link – here’s the Dealaurier fight I was talking about – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PtikvTbMHfg
ok, this is the funniest thing I’ve ever seen, this was the players “Loophole” right after the rule was put in place – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CONJgZjVOh8
in 2019 the NHL added another rule around helmets, if a player purposely removes another players helment, they will receive a 2 minute penalty. This likely was put into place due to fighters ripping the helmet off their opponent early on in the fight to avoid punching the face shield & helmet…

Yeah pretty sure that is illegal now too…
Ice cap how else are we going to get to 200 pages.

I feel seen
If you call Joe out he responds with 3 golden videos so you just have to keep doing it. The 2 guys taking each other’s helmets off is pure comedy. Also the first time I’ve seen that Benn/Thornton fight – Jamie Benn fights are always entertaining.
How did the old visor/no visor instigator rule work? That was a real doozy by the NHL
i’m constantly under a microscope seems like I need to hire an editor and a mathmatician to properly calculate my faceoff posts…

Does the AHL count? haha!
Here’s an AHL fight from May 2021 where BOTH got 5 minutes for fighting and 2 minutes for removing their helmets, refs didn’t break it up
appreantly the AHL couldn’t give a crap about player safety or the rules, here’s another from October 2021, Refs want no part of getting in the middle, who can blame them…

Yeah let’s count it and chalk it up as we both learned something this morning.

Why hire someone when I already do it for free
To add – the DesLaurie fight was good. Face shield cuts for sure. The “other guy” is not ready for pictures either. THese two just went straight at it. In my opinion there was no “loser” here – just a good brawl and tapped each other on the helmet after it was over.
Injuries mounting. Might not be a good stretch here with all the guys that got banged up last night or re-aggravated existing injuries. Sounds like Merrill is out a while for sure.
Russo was tweeting about how much pain Foligno was playing through last night and a lot of people were commenting that it looked like it by the way he was playing. I didn’t think he looked bad and the GREEF line still looked pretty good. He’s gotta be pretty sore from that collision the other night.

Lol! we will hit 200 easily. I hope nobody took that the wrong way it’s fun reading and can learn a lot. Everyone has their own take on things here and it keeps it interesting.
I think it’s time to sit Foligno for awhile. We are going to need him healthy. I know we are still battling for a spot and nobody wants to play the Av’s first round. As Darryl Sutter says you will get the $hit kicked out of you and who’s interested in that? Gologoski in for Merrill obviously and I think Russo mentioned Middelton may be banged up as well and then mentioned Benn would fill his spot if needed. Addison must feel like the pup in the dog pound everyone just keeps on walking past.
I love when Liepold goes “need the plane” GMBG goes “yeah, is that ok?”
The mystery has been solved! A few games ago when Hartman scored in the 3rd period and Zuccarello appeared to face wash him (I know I said to myself wtf is he facewashing him for?) turns out he was trying to wipe a huge booger off his face as he knew the tv cameras would be zooming in close! Hilarious!

I knew it! My wife was wondering what Zuc was doing. I told her I thought I saw snot coming out of Hartman’s nose.
These are just so good!
