2022 MN WILD/NHL THREAD

Cool story, we’re all rooting for him! Any story behind why the Wild drafted him? I remember thinking it was odd they drafted an over-ager with only 20some USHL games. But that was Fenton’s first draft so all the talk was around the Johansson pick, and no one really talks about 7th rounders anyway.

They drafted him after he was producing in the USHL, he was beginning to prove himself.

Interesting trivia. Sam Hentges scored the last goal for Team USA at Beijing.

Yeah just looking at his draft profile it’s odd for players of that age to be drafted with the production he had. 18 points in 23 USHL games doesn’t usually get a MN high school over-ager drafted. It was obviously a good pick, any 7th rounder that ends up in the organization is a good pick. I just thought maybe there was a local scout or exec with an inside scoop on him.

    Trap game tonight

Has potential for that but I think the Wild are pretty focused right now. Losing to bottom of the league teams should not be part of the mix at this stage of the season.

Hentges shoots right so he already has a leg up on 95% of our prospects..

Well I have to give credit where credit is due. Dumba actually did take out McKinnon when the dust settled.

In other news….Goligoski is signing a 2 year extension at $2 million AAV….

Not sure how I feel about that with the way he’s playing but the price is right, I think.

I don’t like that move at all…the dude is slow and old now, what will the next 2 years bring?

I agree 100% Hopefully being on the 3rd line and playing less minutes will keep that from being too noticeable.

So they now have the same 6 D they started this year with under contract next year. Plus Middleton is RFA and it’ll be the last year of Addison’s ELC. I could see them starting next season with that group, but can also see them moving any of Dumba, Kuli, Middleton, or Addison ( bawling )

Part of me thinks they felt really exposed and desperate during free agency last year so are getting out ahead of it this year.

unless this was an agreement with Goligoski to sign and then trade him in the offseason (he’s a lot easier to trade now with a set aav) this ensures Kulikov is dealt this offseason…

    so….

    Brodin – Dumba
    Spurgeon – Middleton?
    Merril – Gologoski

If I’m Addison, I’m begging GMBG for a trade instead of spending another year in Iowa waiting for an injury to happen…

$3.3 million tied up in your 3rd D pair isn’t too terrible, but it should really be around the $2-$2.5 range….every dollar saved helps! A lot will depend on what they can re-sign Middleton at…my guess is if they like what they see from him the rest of the season they try to lock him in longer term (5 years) at a lower aav ($2-$3 range) maintain some size/sandpaper on the backend…

so this points to Dumba then Gologoski getting replaced by ELC prospects the next 2 years…show me how they would have enough money to re-sign Dumba even if they wanted to and even if he took a discount off his current $6aav…Boldy needs a new deal next year, Addison too if they keep him… They want to re-sign Flower and then need to replace Cam after next year or sooner if they don’t want to pay their backup $3.7 million (which they shouldn’t)

…They can’t unless they want to play the entire game 6-5 without a goalie…so I think the writing is on the wall that BOTH Fiala and Dumba are gone in consecutive years…

I have a feeling Dumba and cam now get traded based on this move. Just my hunch.

Good lord Seeler scares me when he fights. He just stands there and takes them. He tagged D Lo a few times too though. Heckuva fight.

He was like that when he was here too.

props to Seeler on that fight, I think his shield saved his face a few times! Seeler caught D-lo square in the nose…

It’s really going to hurt seeing Fiala play for someone else next season.

We’ve never had two sniper goal scorers like KK and Fiala. Even one at a time much less two at the same time. KK is one of the most accurate shooters I think I’ve seen and Fiala isn’t far behind. KK is more consistent with his but I think Fiala has that type of ceiling in him. As soon as I seen KK do that little dip to the outside of the defender I knew that puck was going in. When he that close in and has any room at all he rarely misses.

Yeah that could be. Think I saw stitches and I’m sure that’s gonna swell up a bit!

Great game by Fleury. He could be an asset in the playoffs.

I also liked Seeler. Felt like he got a raw deal from Fenton after having a good season and not really getting another shot. He likes to get punched in the head though. Sheesh.

Hope Foligno didn’t break any ribs or a collarbone or something on that collision. Hopefully just stung him.

Pittsburgh will be another great test on Thursday, but this team has been passing tests all year it seems.

Sounds like Foligno is going to be fine according to Evason. I wondered if Fluery felt awkward having flowers thrown on the ice and picking them up like a figure skater. Apparently he does as he said the fans don’t need to waste their money and throw flowers on the ice. I think it’s only going to continue to build.

Hockey has some odd nick names for players and Flower is a odd one. Gutsy win by the Av’s last night beating Calgary in Clagary 2-1 with no MacKinnon or Landeskog! Kuemper looked awesome stopping 44 of 45 shots.

Kuemper will get rattled in the playoffs…
