What are the Wild’s options with Rask again? If he clears waivers (which he will at $4) I thought I remember somebody saying he can be charged at a reduced caphit if he plays in the minors?

I dont think so. It would be the full $4M buried in Iowa I am fairly sure. CapFriendly shows his minors salary as the full amount so I would go with that. They are on the ball.

Maybe that was a covid season rule only?

So no Matt Boldy tonight? This boggles the mind? I realize they have to dress a certain number of veterans, but why not play your young guys that have a legitimate chance vs playing some guys who have no chance of making the team (like Turgeon or Cramarossa)

Will be fun to watch Rossi & Beckman at least…

It is a bit perplexing they are not playing more of the regulars, but I guess this is the front end of a back to back so perhaps that is the reason. I would like to see more from Rossi, but I think in the end its better for him and the Wild not to be rushed, but I just want to see him play which at least we will be able to do again tonight on the BSN App.

I wondered the same, why no Boldy? Maybe BG has made up his mind on him and knows he’s going to Iowa with Rossi. I think the only one who has a chance now is Beckman. BG seems almost obsessed with these prospects in terms of holding them back from the big club. He wants everyone to “earn” a spot but then seems to hold them back from earning it. Maybe there’s a method to his madness. Pitlick fell into their laps and perhaps solidified Rossi in Iowa.

thinking about this more, perhaps it could just be the position need and maybe they just want to see Beckman and somebody else in the top 6 wing slots and Boldy goes back in tomorrow? If it were me, I’d want to see these young guys in as many games as possible, I already know what guys like Rau bring to the ice so playing them is pointless imo…

Agreed. The only thing with a buy like Rau is he is more or less being rewarded for last season bumping along on the Taxi Squad all year. Not that playing with a bunch of other AHL players in a preseason game is much of a reward, but he is what he is. A fringe bottom 4 NHL fill in but AHL lifer.

Rask cap hit in minors stays the same. That doesn’t really matter at this point however.IMO
Not like they are going to find a player to take up that spot for 4 mill.

Yes they are no app required. Just noticed that looking at my digital guide for BSN. Maybe it will be a bit more enhanced viewing showing things like time left on the power play.

Even better that they are on the regular channel. The App worked fine however.

I think the “Buried Caphit” calculation comes in to play if Rask is sent down to Iowa…I think it shaves $1,125,000 off his $4,000,000 caphit so his new total caphit would be $2,875,000.

So if Rem Pitlick is slotted to replace Rask as the 4th line center, him playing would be cheaper by $207,169 than keeping Rask up…

App worked great, I just don’t like the slight delay with the radio broadcast vs what you’re watching, that and Kurtz can’t read jersey numbers anymore from the press box so he was constantly calling out the wrong player (works fine while listening to the radio, but not when you’re watching it on tv and Foligno is with the puck and Kurtz is saying it’s Boldy….)

In fairness to Kurtz he said he was flying without his glasses. He said they were on order but had not come in yet.

Russo is on with the PA right now and he’s saying that its very likely that Boldy and Rossi will be down in Iowa to start the season.

Other than Rossi only getting 1 game sofar, Boldy hasn’t looked like an NHLer…I think there’s alot of merit to the idea of Rossi staying in Iowa all year besides 9 NHL games in order to slide his contract to next year, (unless he lights up the AHL then how can GMBG keep him down there with a straight face?) If he were to light up the NHL this or next few years he’ll be like the group of RFA’s this offseason asking for the moon…

Let them marinate their skills in Iowa, get comfortable and take it from there…

I was hopeful Boldy would be ready, I’d put my money now on Beckman winning the top6 forward slot and playing with Fiala…

I noticed the same thing. I even muttered the words, Bob, you need to retire now, I feel bad now however I didnt realize it was a glasses issue.

With the lack of chances to play given to Boldy and Rossi along comes reported movement on a Jack Eichel trade front. Please don’t let it be so!

What would you say though if the price wasn’t anywhere near what it’s rumored to be? Would you do this trade? (assuming the medicals come back with a high degree of certainty he’ll be healthy again)

MN gets: Eichel and another $2 million contract coming back to make the $ work
Buffalo gets: Fiala, Greenway, Rask, Beckman and next years 1st round pick?

Yes, you wouldn’t get the full 5 years out of Eichel, but you would get at least 4 years and not give up too much…Fiala and Greenway would require raises next season anyways so 1 or both would likely get dealt…

I personally think the Wild have cut bait with Eichel, but it wouldn’t surprise me whatever team that does get him, gets him on the cheap and other teams fanbases will complain their team didn’t offer something similar or a little better to get him..

Brennan Mennell put on waivers by the Leafs today, if he clears, he’ll make $400,000 in the minors…curious what the Wild were offering him? $150,000? I’d be curious if the Kraken claim him to get some offense in their D system?

Take Beckman out of the deal and yes. I doubt we are going to be able to keep Fiala if he even wants to be here. Eichel still needs a major surgery. My wife had the exact same surgery with a cadaver disc replacement in the exact same spot. Long recovery and she does not play center in the NHL. Eichel to me right now is a complete unknown and is a high risk.

There’s 4 or 5 guys in Iowa making $300,000 so I would assume they were in that ballpark for Menell.

When Russo was on with PA this morning he made it sound pretty likely that Pitlick will be in the starting lineup leaving only one spot open. Likely Duhaime or Beckman I would think.

He pretty much has to be since he was claimed on waivers right?

he either plays in the NHL or he goes through waivers again to get to the minors…

If I am the wild I do not touch Eichel with a ten foot pole. Too much risk. It’s definitely a home run type of move and if you swing and miss now you can bet it sets you back and probably cost jobs.

One spot on the team left in my mind and it’s down to Duhaime and Beckmen.
Guessing we see Pitlick tomorrow and depending on where he plays will probabaly tell us who the last slot filled will be.
