2022 MN WILD/NHL THREAD

As a wild fan I say let them burn them down. To me depth and goaltending is where we have to beat the AVs should we play them.

Joe Mac has twice as many face offs than Landenskog. Your argument about Ek can be said for one of the top centers in the league. How has Mac not gotten better. He has actually gotten worse.

You say some players pull them down but you could argue Kadri pull them up. When he is gone then what.

I think he’s an idiot while also hoping he plays them more and more just to get that precious back to back pres trophy. Jack Johnson & JT Compher starting OT is another great choice from Bedsy. I know it was a PK but how do they go with JJ?!?! Last game I watched COL they started OT even strength with Makar, Mackinnon, and Rantanen all on the bench. Watch Bednar will win the Jack Adams too.

My faceoff arguments have ALWAYS been about…

how you guys talk about them way too much. Please stop bawling

    Touché…
I just find it ironic the two worst teams at face offs in the west are wild and AVs.

HA Just couldn’t leave it at Touche could you smash

Faceoffs in the Wild thread are like covid topics in the general forum. Bunch of dudes bickering and making up our own sharing stats but no one changing anyone else’s mind. I secretly love it.

They call a few more of them now but not many. Guys on the ice in front of their offensive goal are almost always crosschecked.

It’s way, way down from years past though. Parise used to get crosschecked in the back 8-10 times per shift on the power play and it was never called. Now players won’t get away with anything like that.

It’s kind of like when the NHL suddenly read their rule book about 5 years ago and found this rule against slashing. Who knew, eh? So they finally thought maybe it would be a good idea to start calling it, especially the constant hand slashing that went on. Didn’t completely eliminate slashing, but it’s now much, much less.

Amazing what the league can find when they read the rule book but for some reason they were convinced that enforcing the rules would somehow slow the game down.

I agree grouse 100%. I can’t believe I just said that but tough guy hockey is not blowing guys up with a stick across the back in front of the net when they are not looking.
To me it can be called even more. You want to face up and scrum a guy in front of the net fine. Cross checks to the back are just chicken beep..

As you pointed out the Avs rank as one of the worst faceoff teams, yet Kadri is 50% and Landeskog is 55% this season… those 2 take over half the total team draws and likely all of the important ones (PP/PK/end of games)

That’s why the Team % stat is pointless…

And we’re going streaking!!! Just like that, the Wild have won 6 in a row. Third time this year they have won at least 6 in a row and are the only NHL team to have done that this year.

I used this Fox Sports website and eyeballed the 50% quote, take Sturm’s numbers out and the minor faceoff numbers by noobs who by default of the center getting booted got to take a few draws and it’s close

Joe it’s not close. Ok so I’ll only count players with 50+ faceoffs… Kadri and Lande are 452 draws short of taking 50% of team draws. Landeskog has taken 439 total.

Former UMD Bulldogs Captain and Stillwater, MN native Noah Cates will be making his professional debut tonight for the Flyers when they visit Minnesota.

Seems like a fitting venue for it.

The cap is officially up $1 million next season and the future outlook looks alot better than initially thought so expect it to continue to increase $1 million year after year with a huge $4-5 million jump expected in 3-4 years once the players escrow responsibility is paid off….Kirill’s agent loves that timing….

No Mackinnon against the Flames because he broke his hand on Dumba’s head!

Cupcake game against the Flyers tonight so I’m sure it’ll be interesting and then the next 9 are all against playoff teams.

That’s why its so dumb these skilled guys fight. He was over a clean hit no less, much like when Dumba had to fight Tkachuk for no reason and ends up tearing his peck.

Sam Hentges a really unbelievable story. Was a hard working but smaller youth player at Irondale, had a nice High school career. He didnt even play Elite league. Extremely coachable and hard working, dad was on original Hobey Baker candidate, lost to Neal Broten. Left high school with out many junior options. But he had a tryout. If you know anything about Junior tryouts, they are usually money makers. NAHL orgs will hold “tryouts” for about $350 per kid for 2 or 3 hours of scrimmage time, they invite a lot of kids. Dads strut around saying my kid got a junior tryout. What they don’t know is nearly every spot on the team is filled and only in RARE cases does anyone advance out of tryouts. Sammy did.
In fact, he did so well he advanced quickly from NAHL to USHL immediately. So fast the NAHL stop isn’t listed on HOCEKYdb. That is more rare than making a NAHL team out of tryouts. He jumped to USHL and never looked back. Sammy made the most of his opportunities. Dont sell him short. If he stays healthy we might see him up sooner than later.

Interesting background on Hentges. I admittedly didnt know much about him other than he played for SCSU. Hopefully he keeps progressing. Sounds like he wont report to Iowa until next year.

Cool story, we’re all rooting for him! Any story behind why the Wild drafted him? I remember thinking it was odd they drafted an over-ager with only 20some USHL games. But that was Fenton’s first draft so all the talk was around the Johansson pick, and no one really talks about 7th rounders anyway.

Guess thats what happens when you play 70’s goon hockey after a clean check. Cost you your star.
Bednar was asked his level of concern “high”
I get the concussion aspect of not being able to remove your helmet but punching someone in the head while 3/4 of it is covered in plastic just doesn’t seam smart.

I chuckle every time a guy in the nfl throws a punch. Like dude you have zero chance of doing anything but hurting your hand.
