I look at the Jost trade as just an extended opportunity for GMBG to get an asset back as he was up against the deadline for unloading Sturm before he left as a UFA, trading Jost would be very easy to do this offseason or next year if they needed to get some cap back.. Dewer could potentially fill that role if needed for 1/2 the price…

Agree…Sakic actually called BG on that trade, however Jost will always get an extra chance with teams just by where he was drafted.

    Spurgeon Middleton tells a story.

That pairing makes the most sense. In SJ he played with their two top skilled D men.

Wild signed Firstov. He will report to Iowa for the remainder of the season on an amateur tryout and on the roster next year. He has some interesting comps in the forecasts side of things including Tuch, Sprong and Donskoi.

The fact Sakic has called Billy G 2 years in a row with cap-dump trades that are no doubters for the Wild tells us exactly how threatened he feels. Would love to see that bite him in the butt.

He exploded goals wise from Freshman to Sophmore years at UConn, The Wild has some contracts slots to fill and this ensures they don’t run into another McBain situation…I expect Wallstedt to sign next in terms of drafted players, fingers crossed they can somehow sign Meyers after the National Championship game is over ;)

I havent seen much about him lately. Are they still playing? I might have to do some digging.

He had an injury scare for the last month or so but I beleive they finally have that all figured out (turned out to be nothing serious) and he was the backup the past 2 games, he’s likely starting again soon..

Colorado is a strange organization in that the powerhouse team they have right now will look completely different next year as they reload with new UFA’s as they likely can’t afford raises for their current UFAs (Kadri, Burakovsky, Manson, Kuemper) and then alot different the following year when MacKinnon’s caphit likely doubles and they have ZERO prospects to fill open spots with…if they don’t win the cup this year I suspect some heads will roll as they are mortgaging everything…

There’s 31 teams Sakic could call to dump a good player for cap space. He chose a division rival who they might see early in the playoffs both times. Obviously Joe isn’t worried about the Wild.

Joe may not be but he should be based on their post season success recently with the lofty expectations they had. Its sorta like the Leafs. One of the favorites every year yet they seemingly flush it down the drain every year.
Im not confident history will repeat itself for the Avs, but it has to weigh on them a bit.

The Av’s and Wild are in the same place. If not this year then when? They just took different paths to get here.

Leafs haven’t won a playoff series since the early 2000’s and finish 3rd in their division every year except when they played in the handicapped North.
Aves have won 4 playoff series and a presidents trophy (likely another this year) in the last 3 seasons. Aves right now are a lot more like Caps or Bolts from 5ish years ago… guess what those two teams eventually did whistling

No disagreement there, but if the Avs dont do it this or next year it will be really tough to do from there.

    Bingo!

In the next 3 years they have traded away 1 first round pick and all 3 seconds. They have 13 players with expiring contracts this year with the majority being UFA. No way they can retain all of them. They do seem to have a decent number of cap space at 26M, but with essentially half a roster to fill out that gets eaten up in a hurry.

They’ll need a new starting goalie and pretty much an entire 2nd line and other pieces… they’ll get some vets to take less money on a 1 year deal for a shot at a cup…

Their entire 2nd line and goaltender are UFA this summer but as mentioned they have the space to bring most of them back if they want. The rest of the UFAs aren’t different makers. They’ll need about $5-$6 mil available for Mackinnon’s extension, but EJ’s contract comes off the books when that kicks in. Girard was in trade rumors last summer after a bad playoffs (small D-man hmmm). Mackinnon’s extension should be printed and ready to sign on July 1 this summer.

I was just triggered by comparing them to the Leafs, who’ve had less success than the Wild.

Right. Fleury was back in Chicago gathering things. Connor Beaupre (yes that Beaupre) was the second goalie today.

That and I think Cam deserves to start after his last game. As much as we want to see Flower both goalies will play a part during regular season and maybe even playoffs.

💯 Cam is hot ride him and mix in MAF. If Fleury never earns the net because Cam is hot I’m fine with that but he will get the net for sure.
