Bronwell: I was like, “They’re giving up already, calling up this f-ing 4-foot-5 defenseman?” Then, he ends up being captain. I mean, what a story. He just writes it himself. He walked in that room, and everybody looked at him as this short little kid. Honestly, when they sent him down to Houston, we did not think we would see him until the following year’s training camp. It was such a surprise. I remember even talking to the guys when he got called up. Everybody was like, “Who’s that guy?” Nobody really knew him. He was a complete unknown. And he’s 32 years old now and still looks like he’s freaking 16, 17 years old.
Bronwell: My 14-year-old daughter used his old sticks and his old elbow pads when he would get new ones. I’d just take his old stick home: “Ash, you got a new stick.” She’s like, “Ah, sick. I don’t have to cut it or anything.”
