They were who we thought they were – A Team with a REALLY Poor Def. Cord. and some really poor Def. backs. Although I have no idea why Cousins threw that final pass, I’m not putting anything on Cousins in this one. I’ve never been a Cousins fan, But this season I think he did a overall good job. He’s a tough SOB and took a ton of hits and always got back up. The real problem in this game ( And all year ) was the Def. inability to get off the field on 3rd downs. At one point in this game I think NY was 9 out of 10 on converting on 3rd downs. The only failed one was on 3rd and Goal. That just leave the Def. on the field way to long and get them wore down. It also keeps a rather high powered OFF. off the field. Adam Thielen had a rather off year. I’m not sure if it was mostly because of his age, or due to a injured foot that he played most of the year with. You would think with all the pressure that JJ receives a Healthy Thielen would have had a outstanding year. As much as I like the guy, I just don’t see how they can keep him at his current Cap amount.

Our defense needs an overhaul. The only player that we should not cut out of the vets is Hunter. I would like to see them sign a couple of players.
Hockenson, Osborn, Shelley, and Mattison. I think you could get Osborn, Shelley, and Mattison all on cheap contracts. You for sure have to sign TJ to a long deal. We should get rid of Cook and replace him with Mattison on a cheap deal. Osborn will be our No 2 wr next year as well.

Going to have to find some draft capital to do that.
2021 draft really hurt this teams depth. Outside of Ingram and Asamoah 2022 didn’t add much either. Hopefully Cine can come back fully recovered.

JJ is going to get paid some major coin.

I am fine with losing Cook, mostly because the current offense isn’t dependent on the run game. Plus Mattison is capable and Nwangwu and Chandler can do some damage too. I’m completely done with our LB’s. There’s a reason why the middle of our d was wide open all year long. Kendricks and Hicks couldn’t keep up with anyone and when they were in zone they made the wrong reads.

I like Shelley but I don’t think you can start him at CB. He’s just too short. Love his battle level but you can’t overcome being 5-8.

Mattison is FA he will get offers elsewhere. Could be tough for Vikes to match with money they have and the amount of holes to fill.
Going to be one interesting off season that’s for sure.

    1 good thing from losing.
Since we didn’t win a playoff game, Detroit gives us a 2024 4th rd pick on the TJ Hock trade.
If we had won, that would have been a 2024 5th rd pick.
Gotta find something positive from the game…

I think the pickup of Hockenson was one of the best decisions by this team all year. I also would like to see them sign Mattison, although I don’t think he will come at a cheap contract. I think he is good enough that he could be a RB1 on a lot of other teams. Osborn did have a Great season. I do think that was partly because of JJ and Theilen. I think he often drew teams weakest defender.

is cook a free agent???? i heard the announcer say he leads the league in carries for no gain or losses. i fear we lose Mattison if cook is still hear!!!! i think he canbe just as good as Cook, but i heard Mattison wants to be a starter.

i’d hate so see Hunter or Z leave. yea kendricks i think is gone.

offensively i personally thin kthe Vikings are fine…..but that defense…….UFFDA!!!!!!

Can someone please explain to me why on 4th and 8, the Vikes throw a 3 yard pass into tight single coverage. Why the hell would you even have a reciever running a route there? The whole game depends on getting 8 yards.

It’s this kind of mental mistake that makes me think brain damage in the NFL must be a lot more prevalent than anyone realized.

Cook is not a FA. He’s signed for 2024 and 2025 but imo, he should be cut, traded or restructure for a lot less.
Mattison is FA and depending on what he could get else where, they should sign him instead.
Or keep what they have and look for a hidden gem in the late draft rounds. Tough to do though when ya only have 4, 2023 picks.

Because the first 2 reads down the field were covered, and Cousins was pressured so he threw it to the 3rd read. Which was an option route, that Hockenson should have run to the sticks given the circumstance, but was probably the right route in any other situation. At that point you throw it to Hock and hope he can break a tackle.

Same reason when the other team has the ball 3rd and 3 our d backs give a 10 yard cushion. They dont make enough money to know better.

Our D backs give a 10 yard Cushion because if they played up tight the receiver ( Almost any receiver ) would blow right past them. They are just not good. I don’t think that would change no matter how much money you would pay them.

Yep. Hock was solid all game but he made a major mental error on that play. He’s a veteran and should know better, but you can also say KOC or Cuz should have been in his ear before the play reminding him to approach this route based on the game situation and coverage he sees. If the coverage is loose that route might work because he has time to maneuver and get yards after the catch. You shouldn’t have to explain this to an experienced player but it’s probably better not to assume anything in that situation, so ultimately I feel it falls back on the head coach.

For whoever said they wanted zadarius back… why? He was a complete non-factor in this game, same as against GB 2 weeks back. He was throwing tantrums at the refs while downs were still actively being played. He’s a crybaby who whined his way outta GB after getting butt-hurt about not being elected a captain.

Vikes got out-coached in the playoffs. Not a good sign for the future. It may be quite a while before the team makes the playoffs, and I have zero faith KOC will be able to win a game when and if he gets there again. I think the Vikes are in for a rough road ahead.

Pretty much everything that could go wrong in that play did. They needed 8 yards yet send 3 receivers roughly 20 yards deep. With the amount of pressure their d-line brought, those receivers were barely even looking when Kirk had to get rid of it. A fee intermediate routes would’ve helped as we needed 8 yards, not 20.

Hock obviously ran way too short, but he also went to chip a defender inside before running back out. This is only my opinion but that may have thrown him off. He probably ran at least 10 yards before his 3 yard gain.

Lastly, and stop me if you’ve heard this before…but Cousins needed to get rid of it due to pressure. Embarrassing to me that they were able to only bring 4 and drop everyone else into coverage and still rush that throw.

Lots of causes and blame to go around for that play.

I have a lawn chair for sale if anyone is interested.
Vikes are a long way off now and won’t see 13W’s in a season for a long time especially with that Detroit team in our division and the Bears drafting #1.

There’s absolutely not one young guy on the defense that you could point to and say ‘yeah, that’s a future pro bowler, a difference maker that we can build around’

    Not one..

Kwesi’s 2022 draft was an outright disaster..

What can you say about Cousins, besides that the team and coaching staff let him down yesterday. 112.9 passer rating and a QBR that was in the mid-80’s and 4 points higher than Daniel Jones.

We all knew this wasn’t the vikes year. It sucks to see them lose but imo this is better than getting embarrassed by the niners next week.

If Ed is still dc next year, I may not watch lol. Defense needs an overhaul.

I do think this was a successful season and the confidence a 13 win season creates will be a good thing for next year.

Waynes, Treadwell, (17 no pick), Hughes, Bradberry, (Jefferson & Gladney), Darrisaw, Cine.

Looking at 2015-2022 first round draft picks. 4 DB in 8 years. More complete busts than _____.
