November 1, 2022 at 1:42 pm #2156335Nice buck. Been out alot last 3 days se mn. Alot of deer moving but not right one yet. Big boys are seeming to be nocturnal. Little guys chasing. Getting fun this time of year.

November 1, 2022 at 8:30 pm #2156459Most of the big boys by my have remained nocturnal. 100’s of pics of them fighting, chasing does….but mostly 10pm to 4am. Hopefully get more does in heat at once to get them more aggressive. Been watching the rut trickle along for almost the last 6 weeks. At this rate the rut is going to be a dud year.
On a compassionate note, I came across this little guy wrapped up in grape vine. Was through his rack and had his hind legs pinned to a tree. He was pretty calm and let me pet him as I cut the vine loose. Dumb bell ran directly into more vines and we repeated that all over again. He finally headed off the right direction and trotted off. He was pretty weak. Figured he had been there for at least an entire day

Tonight’s sit was a sweet pinch between 2 blocks of timber with a secluded field.
Todays high down here in Ne was 78.
Sunset was at 6:25 tonight. First deer to hit the field was 6:06 PM. Shortly after that a mature doe popped out with a big nature 10 pointer in tow. He chased her across the field and back into the woods west of me.
Ended up rattling in 2 other bucks that i would have shot into 100 yards but they wouldn’t commit. They ended up cutting into the timber west of me.Ended up seeing 18 deer in total and 5 were bucks. Had another basket rack 8 chase a doe by at 45 yards.

So in Nebraska are you permitted to pile up more than one buck with your bow? Or are you hunting for bonus anterless deer now?

[/quote]Ne is a 2 buck state. However this year they decided to limit the NR archery tags to 5000. Basically the public on the west side of he state has a ton of pressure and they didn’t want it to spill over into the archery season with a limit on rifle tags as well.
Last year there were 5032 tags sold. I bought 2 of those last year. Lol
Not sure how many have been sold this year so far.November 2, 2022 at 11:16 am #2156595Just had a doe still with her two fawns outside the office window. Guessing that changes quick with the weather change.
Michael BestPosts: 1233November 2, 2022 at 11:20 am #2156599This mornings set up. Is the north side of the hour glass. It butts up next to some thick cover they tend to bed in. With the SSE winds it’s a money spot. Bucks will cruise along the creek bed just on the edge of thick cover.
Wind blows through the thick cover across the creek and out into a cut bean field.
Very unlikely to get winded by a deer with southerly winds.Attachments:
Michael BestPosts: 1233November 2, 2022 at 11:22 am #2156601The first picture is looking SW.
this picture is looking SE.
In the corner of that bean field next to the creek bottom is the stand I hunted last night.Attachments:

Is the creek completely dry? Sure looks like it. The drought just as bad there as it is here?
Michael BestPosts: 1233November 2, 2022 at 11:26 am #2156605Here is the result of this mornings sit.
Over night low of 55. He come cruising along the creek just before sunrise.
When he rounded the bend in the creek I had him at 22 yards.
Double lung hit and he was down in 60 yards. While I was giving him time an 8 pointer pushed a doe into me for over a half hour. They had me pinned down till eventually the doe squirted by the buck heading west. He was in tow behind her.

Yes it is bone dry. I have hunted here since 2007. The only other year I have seen it dry like this was 2012 when this area I hunt got hammered with EHD.
Half of the herd was lost that summer.Michael BestPosts: 1233November 2, 2022 at 11:35 am #2156610<div class=”d4p-bbt-quote-title”>Michael Best wrote:</div>

Thank you.
Yeah I have been texting friends and family all morning. We have a problem. I am tagged out already. Lol
My brother in law leaves MN on Friday to hunt here for a week. I guess I call coyotes somewhere while he deer hunts. LolNovember 2, 2022 at 11:38 am #2156611I am tagged out already.
That’s OK, you accomplished what you set out to do!
I’m sure you could find a yote or two now.
Michael BestPosts: 1233November 2, 2022 at 11:45 am #2156612Yeah there is no shortage of those around here.
Had one yesterday morning at 100 yards but he didn’t like the doe decoy. Lol
Had a bobcat go by last night at 80 yards
They are such a cool animal to watch in nature.CaptainMuskyPosts: 23319November 2, 2022 at 11:48 am #2156613The only other year I have seen it dry like this was 2012 when this area I hunt got hammered with EHD.
Half of the herd was lost that summer. We had a big outbreak a couple summers ago when they drew down the Mississippi River to bring Little Rock Lake down to do some vegetation planting in the hopes to clean that lake up and lessen the amount of algae. Seems like there are a good number of deer again, but not as many as there were before that.
November 4, 2022 at 4:47 pm #2157075Got a good vibe about this evening. Hope I’m not wrong! 🤞
With a NNW wind, I’m on the south side of a good trail intersection going from swamp to woods across brushy beaver dams. Deer have been using this alot lately. Sat here 3 years ago to the day in quite the windy snow squall.Attachments:
November 4, 2022 at 5:18 pm #2157080Sat till noon and back out at 230. Steady light rain all day. Seen 1 giant at 440 yrds – just out of range lol. Near a bedding area and as expected they get up to shake off, pee/poop and mil around. Been plagued with all little deer all day

November 4, 2022 at 9:59 pm #2157097Vibe was off a bit. Beavers, muskrats, otters, squirrels, grouse, and a bobcat. No deer.

November 5, 2022 at 12:29 am #2157105Was full draw on a doe who came thru my clearing at 9AM. Waiting for her to come to a stop I hear grunting in the woods 50 yds behind her. Big guy who I only had nocturnal pics of came sauntering out nose to the ground. Had to “Mehp” at him to get him to stop, sent one thru the boilermaker at 22 yds. First buck with a bow, and a tough one to top. Quick measurements put him at high 150’s. Nice North Metro buck on 10 acres.
Good luck to everyone tomorrow.
