I also solo hunt from the ground, and have had a lot of success in previous years, but I don’t stay on the move. I’m usually setting up on trails into or out of bedding areas, and playing the wind. Bearcat I’d love to hear more of how you operate ground hunting?

I usually hike in early and have a spot in mind to sit and or maybe sit in a stand for a couple hours. But I tend to get bored pretty quickly, I then just slowly creep around 20 yards at a time and then sit for 10 or 15 minutes and repeat. Some times I move 100 yards and then stop. It really depends where I am hunting. My 2 biggest bucks I have shot 1 with a bow and 1 with a shot gun have been shot while mid day creeping around. I try to be quiet but I don’t stress about being to quiet. If I push through swamp grass or loud ground I just throw out a few grunts maybe kick some leaves around. I actually shot a doe last night doing the same thing just to burn up a bonus tag. Muzzle loader her I got 10 yards from where I thought my buck was and she stood up so I took her to make some good sausage. I sat in a stand a few hours yesterday but just got to bored. I have kicked and spooked deer as well but I have had great success within my means of hunting. I would do drives but I don’t hunt with others. I’m usually all my self or now the last 2 seasons with my son. His doe this year came from a slow walk around 11 am. Much harder with him though he can’t walk quietly
