Another player to think about regarding the Wild’s future Centers is Marat K…He has 1 more year in the KHL and then we can sign him I beleive to a 2 year ELC due to his age (similar to when we signed Kirill)
He COULD be a perfect solution to the first line with Kirill & Zuccy in that he’s fast, he drives zone entries, he’s a pass first puck distributor, he’s a great forechecker and very good defensively…obviously his lack of size is a hinderance, but he’s surviving just fine in the KHL playing against full grown men…

I could see GMBG thinking to sign Steele to a 1-2 year extension with Marat K in mind as his replacement…

They have only won state 3 times in 10 years. 16 17 and 22.

I am assuming it was a regular season loss. Obviously they have lost in the post season.

Agree they should be AA, but then who is next? Warroad

That may be true. They only play a half dozen or so A teams during regular season.

So the consensus is the Boldy signing was a good one? Seems like a lot but I’m not nearly as in tune to the working of the NHL as most here.

Yeah I like the signing. It might be a bit of an overpay right now, but if he projects out like he is he will be a bargain.

If he continues to improve and becomes a 30+ goal scorer & 80+ point guy then it becomes a bargain, especially if the salary cap continues to increase the next 2-4 years (his % of cap total will comtinue to decrease – That’s a good thing!) If he stays the player is currently is (60-70 points a season) it will be what it should be per the market…if he degrades over the years or turns into a chronically injured player, it will become an anchor….

Most experts (& Wild Management) are predicting he takes off and it becomes a great deal for the team, Boldy expects himself to keep improving and then cash in on a mega 8 year deal when he turns 29 years old…

This type of contract for projected star RFA’s is pretty common right now in the NHL, time will tell if it pays off…Leon Driasiatl/Victor Headman are two good examples of how these types of contracts can be great if the player keeps on improving AFTER they sign it…Those contracts seemed high when initially signed, but have been grossly underpaid for the past 4+ YEARS…

Read about the Boldy contract while riding back from URL.

My thought was that it seemed like a good deal.

He is a talented young player, he is a playmaker and has great puck control skills. He doesn’t have a lot of help out there 5×5, yet he still often finds himself on the scoring summary.

The Wild locked up young offensive talent for the next 7 years. I like the deal.

When will Wallstedt be ready for the NHL? I guess with Gustafsson playing so well there is no need to rush him. But what was the projected timeline?

Wahlstedt just turned 20 and bringing up a goalie that young can be devastating to their career. All things look like he is legit however, but I would bet he marinates another full season in the AHL getting us past Fleury and hopefully having a tandem of Gus/Wallstedt.

Goalies they say they like to see a 100 games played professionally. (AHL)
I doubt he will play that amount.
Flower signed for another year. Gus who knows at this point. So maybe next year but a lot of moving parts to have that happen.

I think Hedman and Leon are pretty extreme examples as they are top 10 maybe higher players in NHL.
Boldy will have to improve his numbers in order for the contract to be a good contract. By all accounts they should, but we will have to see exactly when.

I think he will continue to grow into his skill set and will approach the level of his new contract. But I can completely understand why the national media thinks it’s an overpay. Most of them probably haven’t even heard of him.

I think Leon is a good example of signing a young player at what was considered a high aav at the time and then they take off and it’s considered a bargain. He wasnt a superstar after his 3rd season, but he looked to be and the Oilers rolled the dice and it paid off (playing with McDavid sure helps too!)

Hedman was a bad example by me as he had a bridge deal before his big payday, Thomas Chabot is a much better example…

All these guys were signed during relatively flat/minor increase cap years, nothing like the $10 million jump expected to happen 2-3 years down the road… The key metric to follow with Boldy’s contract is the % to Cap number, it will fall pretty quick in 2-3 years…but whatever $ we save with Boldy’s deal, it will get eaten up with Kaprizov’s next contract, but you should be happy to pay for a superstar…

Russo and Smith did a podcast today, talked about Boldy’s contract and what they think will happen with the RFA’s to sign this offseason. They both said they think Addison is gone and expect Freddy to take a haircut because he couldn’t be in a better situation on any other team..

They also thought signing Gus is the next priority.

And it’s showed ever since he’s been out. No energy at all and the Wild are snoozing again tonight.

That play is Hartman’s season in a nutshell…. He’s completely lost out there…

Just turned it on against the Caps. 4 shots halfway through the game?!

Is that Charlie Lindgren in the goal for the Caps?

Hate to see our top scoring D man and PP1 D man leave. Not a hole that is easily filled. Also don’t know how you can have Spurg and Addy in the line up long term.

Not sure why Moose hasn’t been brought up to move. To me Duhaime fits his role to a T. More so than Greenway IMO.

Also don’t get the Shaw in press box consistently.

Does Greenway EVER have two hands on his stick??? He is so freaking lazy.

Not sure we deserved those 2 points, but we’ll take em! Gus is upping his aav demands every game he plays…

Has to be a little concerning our top 2 lines aren’t generating much 5-5… 2nd line is just a mess imo…

Nice way to start the road trip. Man Gustafsson just looks so calm out there. Locking down rebounds he is dialed in.

Gustaffson might be the signing of the offseason. He’s been a rock for this team. Greenway has been annoying me again lately but the GREEF line as a whole had a great game tonight. They turned the feel of the game around a couple times with their shifts.

Gus is playing very well but lets not write him that big contract just yet. We jumped the gun on Dubnyk too.

agreed, I’m just saying any ideas of getting him extended on a small raise are out the door. He knows Flower is likely retiring after next year and Wallstedt isnt going to be ready for a few more years so he’s likely going to be starting soon and will want to be paid accordingly…

You really think a few years for Wallstedt? I get goalies generally take a certain amount of time, but from things I’ve read and comments some people have made it seems like if things go well it could be after Fleury’s contract is up.

I think the plan is he’ll be the full time starter in Iowa next season, then a backup for the Wild the year after, then take over the Wild crease in 2025… I think he’ll get his first NHL game late next season or perhaps sooner in an injury callup if needed.

Remember he’s 20 years old, he needs to learn and understand the AHL/NHL grind of playing 50-60 games a season. I think the most he’s played sofar in his career is like 25 games…. I’d guess the Wild brass is extremely happy with his progress sofar, the kid even scored a goal!

This is why term will be important for Gustavson’s next contract…
