nah, 95% of the time our D hesitate with the puck and then dump it in the corner when the block is lined up, Edzo even brought it up a couple of times tonight, Spurgeon was the one I specifically remember him pointing out….I’m just talking about the missing the net comments I see all the time.
If you wanna segue into a different topic of not even shooting it at all well that’s pretty obvious. They play a heavy possession style game in the O zone. Selective with shots when they establish possession unless they know they have numbers net front. Sometimes they’ll control the puck for 20+ seconds without a shot. They D are doing what they’re coached to do for the system the team plays.
Tonight Hartman ripped a bad angle half slap shot from the point that took a bounce and turned into a 3 on 1 that forced him to take a penalty and turned into a goal. That play is a perfect example of why they don’t force pucks to the net. Their priority is keeping possession and the puck in the O zone.
I thought you were responding to my multiple posts it seems every game of our D fumbling the puck at the point allowing the defenders to get into the shooting lanes and then being forced to dump it in the corners…Dumping the puck in the corner goes completely against keeping possession, it’s littorally giving up possession…
The Dallas game is a great example of what can happen when the D get shots towards the net (all 3 of Dallas’s goals were deflections on shots put on net) vs giving up possesion and dumping the puck in the corners…
Brent Burns is the perfect example of a Defenseman who wastes zero time getting the puck on the net, I don’t think there’s anything special about what he’s doing (so our D could do the same) he just makes it a point to get rid of the puck asap…
Addison’s assist on the first goal is exactly what I’d like to see the Wild defenders to do alot more often…
