IF a Brock Boesser to Wild trade will EVER happen, it will happen sometime in the next 7 days….

I think they’d need some salary retained in that deal and VAN needs the cap as bad as we do, assuming they extend Horvat. Boesser is only $1m less than Fiala so not sure how they could fit it otherwise. Unfortunately at this point he’s a reclamation project that’s tied to a huge AAV, not sure Wild can afford that risk. Feel bad for the guy and hopefully he can bounce back wherever he gets moved to.

Billy G is pretty tight with the agent and old man Jim though so it wouldn’t come as a shock if something gets worked out.

I like Boesser but I just don’t see how what works with his contract.

How about that play in ot by spurge? That saved the game most likely

I think Boesser’s issues have been mostly mental the past few years dealing with his dad’s illness. Yes, he’s had some freak injuries but there’s no guarding against that…

Yes, there’s the issue with his aav and I doubt Vancouver will retain any $ as they desperately need the capspace the next few years.

I’m pretty sure the kid hasn’t forgotten how to shoot the puck and would look great next to Boldy…he’s a RH shot we so desperately need…

Perhaps Vancouver would take Dumba back?

Dumba going the other way was the only way I saw it working but beyond this year I’m worried about the cap hit. Dumba expires this year and it’s doubtful he’s getting resigned to make room for Faber etc.

Dumba and Zuccy’s $6 million coming off the books the next 2 years and the expected cap increase could make it doable…(I fully expect Zuccy to re-sign, but at a much lower aav and 1-2 year term). Do they extend Foligno & Hartman in 2 years as well?

It might be a way for GMBG to stay competitive through the next 2 bad cap penalty years and give Boldy some help on the 2nd line before our next wave of top forward prospects (Khusnidhinov/Yurov) should be close to ready, Marat for sure as that would be 3 years played in the KHL…

If Vancouver has any plans to re-sign Horvat and then Petterson the next 2 years, they likely need Boesser off the books…

Just saying if they couldn’t afford Fiala at $7.8 during the buyouts how do they justify a MUCH worse player at $6.6? Makes zero sense without salary retained.

Lots of “one of us” love for Boeser but even at his best he’s a powerplay shooting specialist who’s (below) average at 5v5. Is there even room on the PP1 here? PP2 is non-existent league wide. His counting stats and underlying numbers have trended down every year since winning the Calder.

He seems like a great kid who’s obviously been through some dark times recently. I really hope for the best for him, but I think there’s more to his struggles than just his mental health. Taking on that contract would be a massive gamble for the Wild.

Freaking play of the game. Chases down a breakaway, lifts the stick while diving to prevent a shot, then gets back up and takes possession of the puck. All while keeping well clear of the other players skates so he couldn’t dive and draw the inevitable penalty.

Spurgeon is massively under-appreciated. Very high probability he turned a goal and a loss into a still-tied game that became a win with that play.

Perfect example of playing up or down to the opponent. Yesterday we played down. Today we are playing up. I was worried we were not gonna have any gas today but so far we are holding our own. Really nice having a healthy greef against these guys.

Maybe we should try Reaves at 1C next… the dude seems to be a skilled puck distributor. ;)

No idea why Petan is still with the Wild? You have a red hot Sammy Walker or even Beckman who’s been scoring regularly in Iowa not getting a chance?

Agreed. We gotta get boldy someone to play with. He’s not noticeable until he’s on the ice with the some other talent.

A 4 goal lead in the third is the most dangerous lead in hockey ….

Petan is a disaster. He fired the puck into the zone 10 feet from the redline without any care in the world. He needs to be sent down. Boldy was laughing about it at the faceoff

Years ago when I attended Da Beauty League in Edina during the summer, he was one of the regulars that time around. He was BY FAR the best player out there too and it wasn’t even close. His shot was the one asset that separated him from every other player. It was clearly an NHL caliber-type shot. Sniper-type RH shooters are hard to come by.

I can’t comment on whether it makes sense to consider signing him from a business stand point but the RH shot alone makes it worth looking at.

He’s got a cool sounding name.

I thought Freddy was going to fall over on the forehand fake.

IF Boldy’s expected 2 year bridge deal is in the range the contract experts think (2 x $3.5-4) then they could fit in Boesser…It’s all going to come down to what Vancouver is asking…for them it’s a salary dump move, so they won’t want anything back that has any term left (that’s why Dumba could work and they could then flip him at the deadline) They will then want a pick or prospect included and rumors are that nothing of any value has been offered sofar or should be expected, so if GMBG could get him for Dumba and say a 5th round pick, I think that would be worth it…

It would put a skilled wing with Boldy (Think Petan swapped out for Boesser sounds good?) I don’t see them making any changes to the PP1 unit, so Boesser would add the shooting option for the PP2 unit and would be the extra guy on the ice if we need to pull the goalie…

Best case scenario is that Boesser thrives playing with Boldy (and eventually Rossi) and you have a young RH scoring asset in the stables, worst case, he plays like he has been the last year and he’s a 50-60 point guy…not the worst thing in the world…
Boesser has 15 points in 19 games sofar this year for the trainwreck that is Vancouver, so it’s not like he hasn’t been producing? Yes he’s -13, but JT Miller is -8 so…

Obviously there’s risk in doing a deal (he’s had a recent string of injuries) but he has about as good an upside as you’re going to find become available for trade, he would fill a HUGE RH shot void we have in the organization and the price to get him likely isn’t that much (besides the caphit) The close proximity to his family would also be a great mental benefit for him as well…
Lastly, GMBG and Boesser’s agent Ben Hankenson and good buddies, so you know at least the phone call has been made and they talked…

No comments on this post??? That play in a nutshell is why GMBG accepted the cap penalty to cut him…his nonchalant facial expression skating back to his bench afterwards says it all… quite the effort/hart difference between that play and Spurgeon’s in OT agianst the Ducks…
