Guess I’m wrong about that and didnt know he had an affair as well.

I didn’t mean that he’s definitely guilty, just that him getting suspended means there’s likely some substance to the allegations. They had 2 days to look into whether or not the anonymous Twitter account was a real person or some random troll. Hopefully I’m wrong.

So what are we looking at or thinking here for a record this season? Second or third place in the central behind Colorado again? I will go with 3rd in the central and about 6 points worse than last season.

Im about in the same boat with my thoughts. I dont know how they improve on what they did last season so Id take it.

2nd or 3rd in the Central, I think Kirill will battle McDavid for the scoring title…I expect Kirill to have 50+ goals and 70+ assists…I think Rossi can battle for the Calder if he replaces Steel early in the season, if he sticks on the 4th line he just won’t get enough opportunities to get points…I expect a shift in our Powerplay mentality that keeps the #1 unit on the ice for 75% of the time. I’ve never understood only giving the #1 unit a minute or so…no way to get into any type of rhythm, especially with our dreadful faceoff % eating 20+ seconds just retreiving the clear….I’d love to see Kirill given the Ovi PP freedom and let him stay out as long as he wants…

Im not so sure about this. They have openly said he will get PP time so that alone could account for pretty decent amount of icetime. As long as our terrible PP is gone from last year.

I wouldn’t be shocked to see Colorado take a slight dip in points either. The blues will be strong again. Flames should be too but a bunch of change over there as well. Vegas has stars and should better than last year but they are a pretty messy bunch too.
Vegas thinks the Wild has decent odds.

I’ll go 105 points plus-minus 5 points, so somewhere between 100-110. 2nd or 3rd in the Central with the Blues in the other spot. But I also won’t be surprised to see the Wild or Blues win the Central, I think Colorado is going to have a lot tougher regular season than last year. Main reason I expect the Wild to be 10 points worse this year is health… last year they were one of the healthiest teams in the league and that plays a huge role in the regular season standings.

My hottest take is that for the first time ever the Pacific takes both Wild Card spots. The Central keeps declining and the Pacific teams are finally catching up.

The pacific has had some rebuilding teams for a few years now while the central is mostly veteran teams growing older. Nashville already out to an early lead with 4 points.

I expect Flames Oilers Vegas Kings Canucks to be in the playoffs or right on the bubble. Ducks are on the rise with prospects and Kraken are a real expansion team so who knows what happens with them.

That’s 2nd PP unit time though, maybe an extra two minutes a game if he’s lucky…again I think the plan is to replace Steel with Rossi a few weeks into the season (unless Steel catches fire) That line with Boldy (whatever we want to call it, 2nd or 3rd line) will NEED to score goals this season for the team to be successful…

    💯

That line ghosting the playoffs is why they lost to the Blues IMO

If they’re worried about Goli breaking down again in the second half (which I’ve read they are) why would they put him on the top D pair with Spurgeon again? They weren’t great last season when together either. I’d rather see Middleton on the top pair like last season finished out. I think he earned it.

They’ll only put him there on the road I think. They are really trying to pay attention to matchups and they really only have control of that at home.

I wouldn’t look to deep into the D pairings to start the season. Middleton is a pretty stay at home guy. Guessing he is paired with Addy the rookie for that reason for now.
I know Dean has stated he would like to pair spurgeon and Brodin together at times when they play a fast first line heavy type of team like the oilers.
Guessing that is home game situation as well.

Yeah, they have openly stated this exact thing as has Russo. They really self evaluated in the off season where there flaws were. Watching NHL Network last night and they were doing conference projections and EJ picked the Wild to win the Central. Not sure that happens, but he had compelling points about the Avs dropping a bit with the changes they have had. Their goal tending is not improved I dont think. I never would have thought Id see it, but there are Vegas odds betting on Kuemper (Washington) getting the Vezina. I dont see it. He certainly isnt the favorite, but was like top 5 or something like that.

Goligoski is the stopgap until Merril is healthy, then Merril will likely pair with Addison…Then Sustr gets sent down to Iowa…Goligoski then sits in the press box making $2 million and fills in for injuries….he’ll likely get bought out next year and we eat the $666k caphit for 2 years, I don’t see him accepting assignment to Iowa, my guess is that he already discussed that with GMBG before he signed his extension…

Goose can’t get assigned to Iowa, can’t be waived with a NMC. I think he’ll be fine, how many 7th D can play anywhere in the lineup like him. He had a tough end to the regular season, but didn’t he still lead the D in points and plus-minus? Give the guy a chance this year before signing the buyout papers.

Yeah I am pretty sure he led in pretty much every statistical category on the team. He led the entire NHL in +/- at one point too. He just got wore down. They will definitely have maintenance days for him. He is still very effective.

Should be some good games tonight. #1 vs #2 goalie in the league tonight in NYR vs TBL, and two competitive teams in VGK vs LAK

I’m just glad hockey is back!

I think Goose will be fine. Will play enough to stay loose with injuries and giving guys a night off. Give me the Goose over Benn any day as your extra D man over the course of a season.

I agree he’ll be the 7th D and playing this season was always part of the plan, the buyout will happen next year when our cap problems are the toughest they’ll get (buying him out saves $1.34 million)

imo, he’s looked brutal this preseason, but maybe all the rest he’ll get will allow him to have a positive impact whenever he does get to play.

Buy him out to save $1.3m and then sign a Jamie Benn for $0.8m or bring up an ELC for $0.925m. And then still have that buyout cost the next season. Let’s just see how he did does this year eh

Preseason doesn’t mean sh!t to me. We’re all hockey starved and get juiced up when it’s back so preseason gets overblown every year. It could not have gone better for the Wild this year, literally every single thing to watch turned out to be a massive positive. Special teams, Rossi, Boldy, Addison, KK still dominant, goalies, young D, everything was just awesome. Wild won the preseason cup for sure – I just don’t think it matters. Hell people are still clamoring for Adam Beckman because of his preseason 12 months ago!! He had like 10 goals in a full AHL season last year

yes, i’m basing my argument on his play end of last season and the few preseason games he’s played in this season (both terrible) so we’ll wait and see if he found the fountain of youth this offseason…what worries me is that the majority of his mistakes have been mental break downs because the play is too fast for him… we’ll see…

Yeah I really wonder what happened to him. He looked so good in preseason last year. Its got to be mental because of making the team then getting sent down.

Watching the Prospect games and the preaseason games Beckman played in he litterely did nothing other than shoot whenever he did get the puck, lots of times is was a simple wrister the goalie easily saved, he did get lucky with a goal line bank shot that resulted in his lone goal…He had issues catching passes, wasn’t physical or easily got checked off the puck…I posted after the prospect tourney that I was worried about him turning into a wasted prospect, those fears have only gotten worse…

He is a third round pick. 98 percent of those guys never make it to the show.

Would be interesting to see some kind of report on where guys are drafted in what round that make it to the show.
