Definitely getting very frustrating getting bounced in the first round, year after year. Especially when teams like Carolina, Vegas, and Seattle are still playing hockey. Heck, Carolina even has a Stanley Cup.

I will still never fault BG for shipping ZP and RS. It was the right thing to do. Pretty hard to build a club with the negative attitude they had infiltrated. What are you gonna do, bench them and have them whine and sulk? It was a no-win situation. Yes, they are qualified NHL players who are/can be good role players. But neither are the center pieces of their teams. That ship had sailed.

So here we are… frustrated and looking for answers.

I agree Evason hasn’t been good in the playoffs. Stupid move to start Fluery in game 2. Some other poor adjustments and line up adjustments. But in the end it’s up to our players to play. And they didn’t.

Extra sting for Boston Bruins not winning the cup this year, their salary cap is reduced $4.5 million for next season due to incentives reached on those 1 year minimal contracts they signed Bergeron and Krejchi too…

    Ouch!

How about those x-checks Michael Bunting took from Sam Bennet in front of the net? They make the Kaprizov x-checks look like love taps… just brutal, but it is Bunting, so there’s that…

Almost makes the Suter and Parise buyouts not hurt so much.

ha! almost…. just nice to see the ramifications of when a franchise can get thier older/retired players to come back and sign well under market value contracts to stack the team for a cup run…

My understanding for the buyouts was really to know exactly what their cap hit would be going forward. If either agreed to a trade, or stayed with the team and retired early before the contracts expired the cap hit would be much worse than a buyout cap hit, and that is why he did it the way he did. That and I think he really wanted them gone.

The buyout is definitely a factor…but it’s one GMBG chose. So I have no patience for that as an excuse out of him or Evason. A lack of talent wasn’t (and hasn’t been) the issue in these 1st round series since they did the buyouts. Suter and Parise seemed to have fairly productive seasons this year as well, so if anything it’s a double whammy negative on GMBG. Excuses are like a-holes, everyone has one and they all stink. Win, or it doesn’t matter why you didn’t.

Mojo you have it right. If they would have retired early the Wild would have been screwed and not even able to field a full roster. He had to do it when he did or just keep them. It got them some time and able to sign Fiala for that one year, but its going to hurt them for the next 2 years but I will take it.

Buying out the wonder twins was probably a good move.
They’re gone and we have the 2 best seasons in team history.
The story’s coming out are ridiculous.

I THINK 1 clarification that might be needed is that IF Parise and Suter retired early, they would essentially need to cooperate/help the Wild by claiming they had an injury and delayed their retirement paperwork until after their contract was over? The Wild could then get re-imbursed by insurance? I think because they were going to be parting on bad terms, GMBG took that scenario out of the equation by buying them out? I’m not 100% sure on all of that, but I remember the delayed retirement filing being a possible option?

Parise is said to be comtemplating retiring after this season…

I also think it’s interesting that Shae Weber’s contract isn’t going to be an issue for the Canadians (maybe becuase Weber is cooperating with the retirement paperwork?) and Evander Kane’s last 2 years of his contract in San Jose was just somehow able to be voided?

Yeah they are! I dont think Parise was as much of an issue as Suter was, but I think they both were locker room cancers.

Are there any specific stories out? The most I’ve seen/heard are just general locker room cancers, Suter wanted specific minutes/rolls etc.

Several stories on Suter. Jason Arnott is a simple one to find.

Let’s remember Zach was benched for a selfish move and took zero accountability and actually threw it back in the coach’s face publicly. He was healthy scratched in the playoffs and not for better players. Brought in a PP specialist in the off season etc etc…

I actually think Zach was worse. He also never came close to his production he had in Jersey except for maybe 1 season.

Either way BG wanted to move on from the old regime and start something new. See if it works out.

I sure hope the Wild’s coaching staff are watching tape on how Seattle doesn’t seem to have issues scoring on Ottenger…

Florida 1 game away from bumping the Wild upto pick #21 in the draft, Seattle 2 games away from bumping them upto #20

For those annoyed by GMBG saying winning a round is not the goal… I give you the Toronto Maple Leafs.

For those annoyed by GMBG and HCDE bs-ing their way through the exit presser and not being completely honest and candid… I give you Gerard Gallant.

    It’s Connor Bedard Day yay

    I blame you Musky….

just gross for the league that a team gets rewarded for an obvious tank job all season…give credit to their players who said FU to ownership and won as many games as they did…

I guess some reporters (Frank Seravelli was one of them) were witnesses to the ping pong ball picks and then locked in the room until the results were announced, they then get to exclusively write about it tomorrow…. They reported it was as legit as it could get…

The NHL Draft Lottery is not rigged and claiming that it is is just a coping mechanism.

I know, but it sooooo looks like its rigged though… I just don’t get why they can’t pull the ping pong balls live on TV, it would eliminate all the questions…I know they want a TV spectical, but this is the NHL, they can’t do even the simplest TV productions well (Kevin Weeks letting everyone know Columbus was out of the top 2 even before they picked 3rd is what’s causing the biggest stir, but I think that’s just basic math after Chicago wasn’t the 4th pick like they should have been)…

I guess any press is good press, but when you’re league is trending on twitter as being the most staged and corrupt professional league that can’t be a good look….

The only team I can remember that’s jumped up the lottery multiple times is the Blackhawks. Everything can be rigged and look legit.

    What about Edmonton’s 2010-2016 lottery run of picking #1, #1, #1, #7, #3, #1, #4?

All the drama with this years draft will be what teams rolls the dice and drafts Matvei Michkov…how far could he slide? Best case scenario is he comes over to the US in the 2026/2027 season, like Kaprizov he’ll only be able to sign a 2 year ELC (more likely it’s a 1 actual NHL season contract) before he’s a RFA with some negotiating power…He’s the most marketable player the KHL has, playing for the richest team, so there will be $$ and pressure to stay in Russia….

If he somehow slips to the Wild, do they roll the dice and take him?
