Exit interview for BG on KFAN right now. Started off with some fireworks between Russo and BG.

Also said Zucc was dealing with a groin for the last month of the season.

Interesting on the Zucc injury, it really showed. Freddy had surgery for an abdominal injury as well. Said he was nursing it for 4 months, not uncommon.

Good business on the Jojo contract. Just keep that man off the PK next year.

I think the biggest decision next season will be what happens with Hartman and Rossi…IF Hartman sticks at 1C, then Rossi is 4C and is being wasted and playing out of position. Ek locking down the 2nd line with Jojo and Boldy and Freddy locking down the 3C only leaves 1C for Rossi imo…

If the Wild moves Foligno this offseason that will allow a Hartman – Gaudreau – Duhaime 3rd line…We’ve seen Hartman play better at C so maybe he center’s the 4th line with Dewar and Shaw/Reaves?/? I didn’t see anythign Dewar did at cnter that would keep me from playing him at wing..

So next years lines could look like this:

    Kaprizov – Rossi – Zuccarello
    Boldy – Ek – Jojo
    Hartman – Gaudreau – Duhaime
    Shaw – Dewar – Reaves/?

    Spurgeon – Middleton
    Brodin – Faber
    Merril/Addison/Signed UFA/Hunt/O’Rourke

    Gus/Flower

I think GMBG will play hardball with Gus’s agents, its been reported they want longer term and close to a starters aav, GMBG knows he has Wallstedt cooking in the AHL and won’t want to block him out in 2 years…I could really see Gus get traded for a young center prospect if a deal can’t be made. He’ll then look for another Veteran UFA goalie and go with a Flower rotation next season…

I think GMBG will offer Reaves a 3 year x $1 million offer, not sure if he would accept it though, he won’t get more term anywhere else, but the aav is lower than other teams will offer…he keeps himself in phenominal shape and provides something we don’t have in terms of physicality and fills the lockeroom void with Dumba leaving…he proved this season he’s not a liability on the ice…the only other option is a career AHLer who will cost $800k anyways…

I think GMBG tries to lock Duhaime up with a 4 or 5 year deal in the $1.5-$2aav range

Addison is a Wildcard, not sure if he burned the bridge with Management or not, could be dealt at the draft if they don’t want him going forward…

What was he dealing with the last 3 months though?

I get the feeling we might see Doug Weight brought into the organzation in some capacity, either as a Wild special teams coach or maybe down in Iowa…

lol, watching the replay of today’s presser, I knew he would be spitting fire…

GMBG agument doesn’t hold water in terms of his perspective of getting past the 1st round and him repeatedly saying getting past the 1st round isn’t the ultimate goal, Russo firing back, yeah, but to win the ultimate goal you need to get past the 1st round…

kinda awkward with Deano sitting right next to him and GMBG saying the pieces in place that have been around for alot of the playoff exits aren’t here anymore..

I wouldn’t be shocked to see Hendrickson replaced. He’s been here forever and I’m not really sure what he’s really brought to the table all these years other than a consistent face.

really nice to hear GMBG tell Boldy he needs to change his game to succeed in the playoffs, all the attempted backward sauce passes across the zone and other shinny hockey stuff he tries just isn’t going to work in the playoffs…he needs to get greasy goals..

Let me break down GMBG’s answer of “There’s a number of ways we can free up more capspace” because there really isn’t…of course you can’t trade guys with no move clauses and you’re obviously not going to trade young guys like Ek, Boldy who don’t have any..so that only leaves a few options that would net you any capspace AFTER you replace that player with a best case scanerio league minimum contract.

    Option 1 = Trade Foligno (net’s you $2.3 million)
    Option 2 = Trade Hartman (net’s you $850k)
Option 3 = Trade Gus (net’s you potentially $2-$3 million)
Option 4 = Trade Duhaime (net’s you maybe $500k, not worth it imo)
Option 5 – Trade Addison (maybe saves you $1 million-$500k depending on what his likely 2 year bridge deal could look like)

One of these options looks alot better than the others…remember the cap jumps $4-$6 million AFTER next year, so this is just a 1 year stop gap move to sign the players we need to for next season…

As much as I like Foligno I think its time to move him.

Adam Oates would be an intriguing guy to bring in. Not sure if he wants to get into coaching or not.

it is…he’s too expensive and too often injured, pretty sure there are other cheaper options in the league that can forecheck people hard…

Kirill and Ek take over the vacated Alternate Captain slots next season, Spurgeon then hands over the C to Kirill after he signs his 8 year extension )

Didn’t they bring him in a few seasons ago? Or am I thinking of another PP specialist that teams have brought in to help terrible PPs.

They didnt, but Suter and Parise did and remember how that pissed off the coaches?

    Classic Russo BG exchange.

LOL that was a classic exchange. BG is upset, works himself into a more aggressive mood, Russo is as calm as can be, asks another question, then some silence, and BG calms down.

“Our goal isn’t to get past the first round. Its to win a Stanley Cup.” C’mon dude this team needs to take it one step at a time and be realistic about it at the same time. If his excuse is that this team is still paying millions of dead weight salary, then he won’t have an excuse anymore once that is paid off, right?

I would really like to keep him too. So Gus, Nyquist, JoJo. Trade Foligno, Dumba leaves, Faber in. A few more gaps to fill, but $8 million isnt much to work with.

    Pretty gutsy assuming Rossi 1C.
Hartman is not being traded in off season. Can’t afford to not have center depth.

    For the spreadsheet nerds…

Did not include Shaw because even though I’m confident they keep him I don’t know how creative they can get with keeping his cap hit off the books until he’s ready.

Add Zuccy and Goose as potential trades to create cap space

Strictly money based, guessing he’s a $3m-$5m AAV range. Trade Zuccy to sign Nyquist is the big-balls move

That’s what I figured. That would be tough to trade Zuccy because of KK, but I just have this feeling that Zucc’s game is going to rapidly decline. I hope I am wrong.
