The Athletic’s Corey Pronman is doing his annual Org Prospect Rankings this week, the top 8 teams get announced tomorrow, will it be the Wild or Sabres at #1???
I was surprised he had Columbus at #12, they are loaded imo…
I think the Wild will be #2, but we will see. Wallstedt definitely helps, but I think a few guys are going to fall off the list that boosted them before if I have his age thing right.
Pronman’s pipeline ranking isn’t a Prospect ranking at all, it’s a U23 players ranking so established NHLers are included. Cale Makar was included last season. This season all 2018 or later D0 players are included so guys like Rasmus Dahlin, Andrei Svechnikov, and Brady Tkachuk are all included. All 3 of the Hughes brother are included lol.
The Wild don’t do well in lists like that because almost all of their U23 players have no NHL time – the only exceptions are Boldy, Dewar, and Addison.
Even without the NHLers I think they have a shot at top 5 but I think teams still above them are Buffalo, Ottawa, Anaheim, or Detroit. They may not have the depth the Wild do but they all currently have more sure-bet stars/future stars.
Yeah, I was wrong on what I thought his age requirement was so they will definitely not be top 2 based on that.
In other news, I saw a quote from Wallstedt that he was going to “stick around” following the WJC to get more familiar with the smaller ice sheets. I wonder if he is headed to St Paul or what.

I think the Wild’s only true graduate will be Mason Shaw – and the other losses from their list last year are Jack McBain, Filip Johansson (lol) and Khovanov (LOL).
The additions are Faber, Yurov, Ohgren, Haight and the rest of the 2022 draft class. That’s why they’ll see the big jump from the #15 ranking at this time last year.
Wild’s pipeline ranked 8th by Pronman, interesting he had Rossi ranked as our 5th best prospect. Pretty impressive for a team who’s highest draft pick the past 10+ years was 9th overall… It was mentioned the other 7 teams ranked higher all had 1 or 2 Elite prospects in their systems resulting from top 5 picks…can’t argue with that…
Thanks to those who clarified the U23 stipulation of the list, makes sense…
Imo the Devils should be #1, Buffalo #2 (just because their prospects are farther away from the NHL). I think the Hurricanes and Canadiens are ranked to high…
Calen Addison at #3 💚
I hope he gets a good shot this year I just dont see a spot for him unless Kulikov is moved or injuries.
Yeah I’m hoping he gets a shot to start the season with Merril injured. A Kulikov trade really needs to happen, but I’m not holding my breath – maybe we get an in season trade once Merril is healthy. A trade now would leave them with only 6 healthy NHL D (including Addison) to start the season but they do have some AHL depth in Mermis and Sustr. I had no idea Sustr has over 350 games of NHL experience.
Outside of Wallstedt and maybe Rossi it is a whole lot of B level prospects. Especially on the back end. At some point they are going to have to find a way to take their depth of B level prospects and turn them into 1-2 A level or NHL ready players. For two reasons.
1. There are not many game changers on the list.
2. Their is no t room for all of them.
(This should probably be number 1)

100%. They should be able to bundle a couple of those guys to get one higher end prospect.
So it’s the 2012 prospect pool
Sure feels that way. Its tough to get top tier prospects when you are always drafting mid to late 1st round. They got lucky with a couple guys falling farther than they should have in Wallstedt and Rossi, even that Russian kid this year.

A little bit maybe yeah.
Getting Wallstedt was huge. All signs point to him being a star goal tender but we all know goalies are weird.
Rossi and Faber seam to be regular NHL contributors. Faber has played a lot of international games and has looked steady.
Addy sure looks like he is ready just not sure it’s with the Wild.
Yurov- who knows he’s Russian. He may not be here till 2030.
After that it’s just that prospects that have a lot of work to do. I was high on Lambos when they drafted him but he has some obvious holes in his game that if he can’t clean up may be a problem.

His biggest issue is staying healthy. The kid cant seem to catch a break.
Well he was healthy in WJC and looked lost the one game he played before he got benched. Not a shot on him just think he has a ways to go and has probably gotten pushed down the list because of Faber being more ready and you already have Addy who seams to be ready.
I’d say Boldy/Wallstedt/Rossi/Yurov/Faber would be A list prospects in any system…Khusnidinov looks like a completely different player (better) sofar this KHL preseason, but I agree that our D prospects (incuding Lambos) have looked meh sofar and might have peaked in development. Organizationally we are pretty much set at defense though for the next 5-6 years with Brodin & Spurgeon signed long term and Middelton/Faber/Addison ready to fill the gaps if needed…
This season will be huge for Peart & Haight to see if they step up a level in development, they have the talent to do so…

Im mixing him up with someone else then. The guy I am thinking of got hurt right before the tourney started. He was hurt when they tried to do the WJC last year too.

Deamon Hunt…he’s was liked the most of the Wild defenders by the Canada WJC staff, just stupid dumb luck getting hurt blocking shots in the final practice both times…

Yeah, that’s him. Man watching some videos of him that boy likes to play the body. He decleats a lot of guys. Sort of makes me worried though too opening him up to more injuries.

Yeah I wasn’t including Boldy as he is on the team already. Yurov sounds promising but who really knows with the Russian players and what will happen both in development and their willingness to come over. Rossi has some gigantic expectations on him. He seams to be the right type of makeup to handle that stuff but we don’t really know until he is thrown in the fire so to speak. As I stated above about Wallstedt goalies are just weird.

between Hunt/Lambos/O’Rourke/Peart I was most intruiged by Hunt because of his physicality and shot, Team Canada seemed to be as well (he was slotted in thier top 4 before he got hurt) Peart is the Wildcard imo, could turn into a really good player or go the way of AJ Thelen…

The fact that Yurov attended the Draft in person, said he was excited to eventually join the fun locker room (per watching videos on youtube) and of course playing with Kirill I think gives me the most hope of him coming over in 2 years with Marat…hoping NOT playing for one of the BIG KHL clubs puts less pressure on him resigning with them when his deal is up??? but yes it’s kind of a crapshoot right now…
I think GMBG and Staff now have a different playbook dealing with Russian prospects after seeing Kirill take off…keep up the relationship/comminucation and don’t ghost them after the draft…
I think Yurov will come over when his current contract is up he has been very vocal about wanting to play with Kaprizov. If he farts around that may never happen.
Vegas signed Phil just to healthy scratch him before he sets the record. At least that’s what I expect them to do.
A known chronic gambler goes to play for Vegas…this will end well…
GMBG was at the fair today on Barrero’s show, was finally able to honestly answer SOME questions regarding Kirill’s situation in Russia, he said he was seriously concerned about it for awhile…sounds like they pulled every string diplomatically and legally to get him out of there…GMBG chuckled and said Ummmm
Yes…when asked if Kirill needs to think twice about going back to Russia again anytime soon….
